France, feel free to take your statue back. We aren’t using it anymore
The statue was to commemorate the end of slavery, but Black people were living under Jim Crow and at least one Black leader even said that America hadn’t lived up to the statue’s promise.
So then it got transformed into a symbol of immigration - although the US literally created the Chinese exclusion act - and now ice is brutalizing people and nobody can pretend that it lives up to that ideal either.
Considering what France has done in Africa, maybe they aren't the right people.
I'm guessing they will also only process visas of certain phenotypes.
