Plot twist: OP in the picture is at an intervention.

Be direct. Speak up for yourself and your needs/wants. Conversations go both ways and the person in this example may not be picking up on your indirect cues.

"Why didn't you say so sooner?", might be the response you get if you told them after 44 empty responses.

Ableist could be another potential framing, but there's no need to throw such terms around unwarranted.

For example, an autistic person might reasonably conclude that OP was being passive aggressive if they disclosed that they weren't consensually engaging all that time. Indirect communication is confusing for some people, whether they are on the autism spectrum or not.

I know it's a meme, but sometimes you can really help people by just listening. Sometimes that's all they need. And they've chosen you. See it as an honor.

One of my regular instacart delivery guys does this. Seems like a really nice guy but Jesus he talks on and on. Like don’t you have another delivery to get to?

I might guess that he only does instacart not because he needs the money, but rather because he wants people to talk to. Except that he also told me about how he used to live in his car, so it’s probably not that. He also told me he has a wife, maybe she makes him do instacart to get him out of the house so she can have some peace.

If you just sprint away as fast as you can and yell out “IS THAT CAKE!?” you can escape almost any situation.
