You know, it already seems like my instincts tell me it's too much, I want to throw a chair at the monitor so I can't hear anymore, smash my phone by throwing it against the wall or smash it with my hands. It's a real nightmare, I already feel like I'm living in a dystopia like 1984. And this is only the voice, a similar story with the video.

As soon as I hear any A.I. generated voiceover, I stop playing the video and move on.

What you're experiencing is uncanny valley.

I hate that i notice it now. When they mispronounced the same word, with the exact same inflection, it just makes me give up on the video.

There's just something about a real human talking that makes me connect with the material more.

Mostly with interactive AI, because they usually come off as either rude or obsequious. That’s when I turn it off.

[-] ZDL@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 days ago

Wait, turn it off? Can you do that? I thought violent melodrama was the only way to stop slop!

[-] leadore@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I get annoyed at everything about it.

What AI voice are you talking about? Just random social media? If it's making you want to smash your phone I don't think the problem is the voice....

You got downvoted for this, but you're absolutely correct. If hearing something you don't like drives you to violence, shit, every time I hear mindless American pop music I'd be going on a rampage like that green guy in comics.

People seem to have forgotten the fine art of just turn it the fuck off.

(Downvote away, Internet. It's not as if randos' opinions matter a wet slap to me. Hell, go into my profile and systematically downvote everything! Won't hurt me in the slightest.)

I'm always a little surprised when I see Lemmyers who use TikTok/Reels/Shorts etc. Even weirder to see them defensive about it!

Yep, its hell.

Time to go live off grid with 2003 technology and books.

Have you considered just, maybe, I don't know, turning it off?

The drama here is over the top. Almost like an AI was told to write it with the prompt "AND MAKE IT REALLY MELODRAMATIC!"

I've noticed for a long while. I don't get my feathers ruffled over it, though.

Yeah, this is the sane way. I have a Youtube channel blocker plugin. I hear robo-voice, I sense robo-script, I see robo-video? Channel blocked, problem solved.

Peace be upon you. To your question: Yes and no. I find it harmless, almost even creative, when beautiful music mixes are made, or when one of my favorite actors says something funny. But at the same time, it's very dangerous. And by the way, this is a threat to all voice actors and dubbing professionals. I come from Germany, where dubbing is really important. In any case, it has pros and cons. It depends on who uses it. Actually I don't blame the AI itself, but rather the people who misuse it.
