Donald Trump announced Sunday that Republicans plan to dispense a large “Election Integrity Army” to every single state for the 2026 midterms – invoking his debunked claims that the United States does not have fair elections.

In a message on his Truth Social platform the president appeared to attribute his “Historic Election in 2024” to the fact that the Republican National Committee sent thousands of volunteers across the country to poll watch or assist with election litigation through a volunteer program.

So at what point can we consider the USA to be no longer democratic at all? It has already been downgraded from being a liberal democracy.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 hours ago

My biggest fear is the rest of the world bowing down to Trump. I really want the rest of the world to formally recognize the Untied States as a fascist dictatorship that everyone needs to stay away from

[-] MisterD@lemmy.ca 88 points 2 days ago

FYI it's illegal to post soldiers at polling stations in the US

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Ba ha ha ha ha. What makes you think that matters? Trump will make it legal

[-] shweddy@lemmy.world 70 points 2 days ago

Show me one example of trump giving a fuck about the legality of something he wants

[-] disorderly@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

As an alternative we'll accept someone holding him accountable for an illegal action.

A few have tried, one came close.

Yes, and they know it, but they don't care. They believe in the might is right. People need to wake up. The rule of law is over.

[-] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

If we can't place our ballots, we'll have to vote with bullets. Of course that's what they think they want.

[-] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Tell the police

[-] xxam925@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

lol.

Are you ready to shoot over it? Because ain’t nobody saving us but us.

[-] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 30 points 2 days ago

It won’t be soldiers. It’ll be Proud Boys and your local bigot embracing the opportunity to harass women, minorities, LGBTQ (or people they assume are)… basically anyone that doesn’t look MAGA material. It’s an open call for mob intimidation under the auspices of “protecting election integrity”.

Legality doesn't seem to be an issue for the current administration.

Arm up people.

[-] cattywampas@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

So, poll watchers? A thing we already have?

[-] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 day ago

No, guys with guns to make sure you vote the right way.

[-] cattywampas@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Not at my polling location they won't. Have you signed up to be an election judge yet?

[-] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Why aren't they going to your location?

[-] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

The president says yes, you say no. Which one do you think determines whether armed goons show up? Can you tell me why "not at my polling location they won't"?

Friendly reminder that not everyone on the internet is American, and in fact most aren't.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

i want to say "not at my location" and show up armed with a semiautomatic shotgun, but i don't have a semiautomatic shotgun. also if i showed up with my rhetorical shotty, they'd probably shoot me. i'm visibly disabled, there's a nontrivial chance i get shot in every police interaction, one with a firearm just increases it.

[-] cattywampas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If you're not a poll worker and not even American, I'm not gonna listen to you tell me how elections in America work. I and thousands of others like me are the ones who run them.

[-] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I'm a poll worker and American. Can you answer that question?

[-] cattywampas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

And do you plan on rolling over if anyone tries to interfere with voters at your polling place or do you plan on doing your job?

[-] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Yep, I am sure my historical heritage has no relevance in how elections can be suspended.

Good luck!

[-] ZeroCool@piefed.ca 52 points 2 days ago

Well, we had the chance to save our democracy, and we blew it because of eggs. Say, how's that affordability crisis looking nowadays?

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

Eggs are so easy to go without too. I've never purchased an egg in my life

[-] plateee@piefed.social 17 points 2 days ago

I just spent around $40 on two burgers, fries, and a shake at Five Guys... So bad. It's looking bad.

[-] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 13 points 2 days ago

Paid $4.50/gal for gas at a fucking Costco and my haircut costs 2 times what it did a year ago so I'd say Trump's nailing it ~ elon

Start organizing NOW. Get in touch with your local rapid response groups or other local orgs. Create a poll watch patrol and target high risk polling places. Report any suspicious people/activity, and response with people to protest and video it.

[-] totesmygoat@piefed.ca 26 points 2 days ago

Really... The world is watching you yankers. At this point. If the un is not controlling your election. We know it's rigged. And you are completely useless. Won't stand up for yourselves. And the sooner we convince our governments of this the best. The USA is over.

[-] stickyprimer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Thanks for the encouragement. Fuck you too.

[-] Snowies@lemmy.zip 27 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

What exactly should random people living paycheck to paycheck do about our entire government being controlled by fascists?

We are already protesting and striking.

Our leaders have failed us. The good ones failed to stand up to the bad ones, and the bad ones are in charge now and control the media, the military, and the Supreme Court.

You want Dave from Burger King and Emmett from Starbucks to resort to guerilla warfare?

Should we be committing harkiri in the streets?

You think you’re angry?

Imagine being here, watching it happen face to face, arguing with a never ending army of brainwashed people who get off on cruelty because they’d rather burn it all down than let immigrants and trans people live in peace.

[-] blackbeans@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 days ago

To be honest, that's what the American people have always done throughout history. When the elite got out of hand, the people revolted and successfully brought them down. So yes, Dave from Burger King should be there in the streets too. At the biggest anti-Trump protest the US had so far, only 2% of the American people were present. And those who were present waved signs for exactly one day and then went home. That is simply insufficient.

[-] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 14 points 2 days ago

Apparently lie down and watch facism bloom. Y'all've already let it take root and flourish.

It turns out that this second amendment I keep hearing about was not worth the paper it's written on either.

What did German citizens wish they'd done a hundred years ago?

[-] obelisk_complex@piefed.ca 17 points 2 days ago

Right, lay down. That's what some of the largest protests in united states' history are. Protests that are getting larger by the month. "Laying down".

You aren't in any position to criticise, keyboard warrior.

[-] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 days ago

Not just some of the largest, the largest. No Kings makes up the top three

I think a lot of people don't realize just how gigantic the US is and how much of a logistical nightmare it is to organize nation wide things, and how relatively little small groups of people can do to the federal government

The criticism of not starting soon enough is valid; this kind of mass action should have happened earlier. But it is happening now and people like the mentioned keyboard warrior dismissing that are hindering not helping

More like "election preventing army". Trump and the GOP can no longer afford free and democratic votes.

[-] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

A bunch of failsons with a fourth grade reading level patrolling polling stations with AR-15s. What could be more American than that?

If this "army" is anything like ICE we all know what that means: voter intimidation and violence.

MAGA is attacking election integrity from several ends. We always knew this was going to happen if he gets re-elected. And with "we" I mean not enough people to matter, apparently.
