$3.49 for a fucking hashbrown? They better be frying that up with truffle oil and giving me overpriced pink Himalayan salt for fucks sake

[-] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 39 points 4 weeks ago

…AND they’re limp and greasy AF. Almost like they don’t let them drip dry anymore and let the bag and car seat do the soaking up.

Been going to Rotten Ronnie’s for 40 years. Haven’t been since 2022.

[-] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 4 weeks ago

Lolol rotten ronnie's...

Almost sounds like a pleasant dive diner until you realize what you're actually talking about

[-] Switorik@sh.itjust.works 15 points 4 weeks ago

I recently bought one and was baffled by the price. They are about 1.5 times the size of the original. That doesn't make up for the absurd price and I don't see myself buying another one.

[-] johnyreeferseed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 4 weeks ago

The thing that always used to confuse me is how a hash brown costs more than a sausage McMuffin

[-] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 weeks ago

I’m speculating, but I feel like their fries and hash browns have absurd standalone prices to try and steer people towards the meal deals that already include them.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah I stopped going there years ago because their prices are out of control. You're a fast food place, the only reason you exist is to provide fast, cheap food. Stay in your lane. The quality of the food and service has decreased too so wtf are people even getting out of all that extra money?

[-] protist@retrofed.com 14 points 4 weeks ago

The grocery store near me sells a frozen 20 pack of these for like $8. Also I can get sizeable breakfast tacos from a local spot for $3 each. Corporate America is the problem, you should never visit corporate chain stores if you don't have to.

But both those things mean I have to get out of my car! Total rip-off, man. obese noises

Federal tipped minimum wage is 2 hours per hash brown.

[-] LemmyFeed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 weeks ago

That's a half brown per hour!

[-] cornshark@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

So like a beige?

[-] 10thGlyphix@lemmy.zip 21 points 4 weeks ago

How is a person supposed to raise a family of morbidly obese shitposting xenophobs in this country with these numbers? Little zander needs at least 7 per day to sustain the grease requirements of his mullet.

[-] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 16 points 4 weeks ago

Don’t forget Hayden, Braden, Jayden, Caiden, Aiden, and Caseadeē.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 7 points 4 weeks ago

Jeighden, Breighdan, J'd'n, Ceighdin, Aeighdyn, and Caseighdei.

[-] 10thGlyphix@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 weeks ago

Honestly all those names and Xander sound like suburban semi healthy people to me. But I may be out of touch. I am old and (proudly) not a parent. But yes, Midwest soda guzzleres need cheeper greasy tatters. Their never get early onset heart disease at this rate.

[-] Hazel@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago

Well those are just the boys, they didn't mention Diamond, Hope, Charity, Faith, Tiffany, Chelsea and Taylor (named after Taylor Swift ofc).

[-] 10thGlyphix@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 weeks ago

Naming a child Diamond is not a real thing, no one does that. You take that back. We have stupid nightmare names. There is a real human named blanket in this world. We have enough problems.

Also in case anyone's thinking "at least I never seen a job pay the federal minimum wage," it's where salary negotiations start from for a lot of immigrants, and can go up or down. I was paid $5/hour in my first warehouse job.

[-] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 weeks ago

Still tons of jobs in my area that pay federal min wage for anyone who applies.

So so many people don’t live in big cities or rich states. Low cost of living areas are a trap that you’ll never save enough to get out of, if you were born into one to poor parents.

[-] sobchak@programming.dev 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I'm not even an immigrant, but grew up in a small town, and I've worked minimum wage and ~$0.25 above minimum wage in quite a few factory, fast food, and grocery jobs. The gas needed to just get to work and back took a significant amount of my check. That combined with car insurance and maintenance probably took the majority of it.

[-] deathbird@mander.xyz 15 points 4 weeks ago

Hey the way I figure that's 2240 cal on an 8 hour shift, so not like you can't eat on that. What more can you expect from a "minimum" wage? Rent? A house? Utilities? Insurance? A family? A life? Please, these jobs are for high school kids trying to buy some hash browns on the side. Our hash brown based economy would collapse if we paid people enough to cover the costs of life

[-] Muffi@programming.dev 13 points 4 weeks ago

Measuring minimum wage in calories is some dystopian shit.

[-] deathbird@mander.xyz 3 points 4 weeks ago

I also like to think of it in terms of hours for goods.

A Switch 2 is like $500. A game for it is $70. The minimum US wage for an hour of human labor is $7.25.

The right to play Pokemon legally is worth 78.62 hours of productive labor, or 2 weeks of full employment.

According to Zillow the average rent in the US is $2000. So the average landlord is entitled to the equivalent of 275.86 hours of the minimum value of labor. That's 6.9 (ni.ce) weeks of full employment.

Financial advisors say no more than 25-30% of your income should go to housing. The average rent is $2000/mo, so the average income should be $8000/mo. The average landlord thinks the average American should make $96,000/y. $7.25/h4052 = $15,080/y. Based on the 25% rule one should be able to find a place renting for $314.17 somewhere.

[-] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

The majority of employees are not high school kids, you're mindlessly repeating McD propaganda.

A minimum wage job was supposed to keep a family of four over the poverty line with one worker, according to the 1938 labor law.

We abandoned that with a long decline in wages since the 1970s.

We used to be able to support the "hash brown based economy" on far higher wages for most (adjusted for inflation and purchasing power). We still can... back in the day, a CEO would make 50x what a front-line worker would make, now 500x or even more, and there's an entire executive and stockholder class making a fortune.

Figure it out.

p.s. I had to pay rent and bills and buy food as a high school kid, but fuck me right.

[-] other_cat@piefed.zip 6 points 4 weeks ago

"Our hash brown based economy would collapse if we paid people enough to cover the costs of life"

altr

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 points 4 weeks ago

Just bring home some of your hashbrowns to your family and landlord and to pay for services. Duh.

Hash browns are just really expensive, these people actually get paid a lot. Hash browns take multiple entire industries to build. You wouldn't even have them without capitalism./s

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah but they aren't even that good. Like, yeah, they're good, but they just make me wish I had latkes.

Fuck I could go for some latkes.

Again, using anything to avoid the metric system.

[-] ora 15 points 4 weeks ago

Sure. Go on, what's the minimum wage in centimeters?

[-] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Federal minimum wage is 4.8 centigrams per hour.

Tap for workGoing off the price of gold, and assuming my math isn't just absolutely fucked, which it probably is because I'm just some schmuck doing math for funsies.

Current gold price is $150/gram according to the first site I found that wasn’t blinking the information at me in blue and neon green

150/7.25=20.69 (wage hours to a gram)

1/20.69 (1 gram divided by the wage hours) = 0.048 (total portion of gram representing one wage hour)

0.048x100 = 4.8 centigram 0.048x1,000= 48.33 mg for a more common conversion :)

[-] Monstrosity@lemmy.today 11 points 4 weeks ago

You've got to spend a half hour making soggy hash browns before you can afford a single soggy hash brown for yourself.

[-] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 7 points 4 weeks ago

Mofo that's crazy

You used to be able to get a Quarter Pounder for that. One hashbrown??

[-] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

So more than enough to survive. Quit complaining and get back to work.

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

That's 24 hash browns after your normal shift. You can slurp up some of the radiator leakage from any nearby machines.

That's basically all of your major macros.

[-] Avicenna@programming.dev 4 points 4 weeks ago

"that is enough sustenance for you slave"

[-] thingAmaBob@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

Damn you can buy an entire bag of frozen fries for the price of one of those hash browns…

[-] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 weeks ago

Federal minimum wage is $18.15

[-] flandish@lemmy.world 20 points 4 weeks ago

you wish. it’s a little over 7 bucks.

[-] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 weeks ago

Nope, it's definitely $18.15. I just checked. I thought I'd act like an American and pretend like other countries don't exist. Nobody said anything about your shitty country.

[-] flandish@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

it’s actually 420.69.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 3 points 4 weeks ago

That may be the rate in your city or your state, but it is NOT the FEDERAL minimum wage.

[-] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 weeks ago

Americans, lmao. I don't live in a state. The federal minimum wage of my country is $18.15
