And yes, she was right ten years ago.

[-] mlg@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Damn that's crazy, maybe you should have supported the popular progressive instead of getting the DNC to gg ez your primary for you lol.

they have no need, 6-3 is already a supermajority. thats why they have been brazen in the last 2 years repeal every case they can, they cant touch interracial relationships yet, because alot of gop are married to poc wives. they made sure thier scotuses arnt that old fart, if they are about to step down they replace it under 30days much like with RBG.

[-] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 3 points 7 hours ago

If a Republican president can do it, so could Biden in order to prevent that from happening. Why didn't he? Why didn't Kamala run on stacking the courts in her favor?

[-] glitchdx@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Because the president needs the congress to approve those judges, and the last time team blue had both the presidency and the congress was when Obamacare was passed.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 5 hours ago

which was watered down because we had people LIEBERMAN.

[-] lauha@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

This is false. Any president in US has the power to do this and in a proper democracy no president should have the power to meddle with the justice system. Sepaeatipn of power and all that.

[-] desiccated_event@piefed.blahaj.zone 13 points 13 hours ago

The people who needed to hear it weren't listening while the rest of us were screaming.

[-] infinitevalence@discuss.online 110 points 22 hours ago

Sure is a good thing that she and her husband got the ball rolling for the Republicans! What would we do without deregulated and monopolistic media, Neo-liberalism globalization that gutted the middle class, deregulated markets that created the sub prime crisis of 2008, and a judicial system that punished people for being poor and/or BIPOC.

She was not wrong, she just was also complicit.

[-] Windex007@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

The legislative branch are just cowards, period. Don't like the way the SC has interpreted a law? No fucking problem: re-write the law. It's LITERALLY thier fucking job.

[-] pfried@reddthat.com 1 points 6 hours ago

The legislative branch will write the laws that their voters want. The voters that won the elections voted for Republicans, so that's what we get.

[-] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 1 points 9 hours ago

I've really stopped paying close attention because it's all bullshit, but how many supreme court decisions are based on 'simply' an interpretation of the law, versus using some super stretched out version of the constitution to distort the law?

[-] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 19 points 19 hours ago

YUP. So much deregulation happened under the Clinton presidency and everyone sings his praises. He's a traitor to his constituents and country.

[-] ianhclark510 33 points 19 hours ago

DMC: Run Biden 15 more times you say?

[-] mlg@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Careful if they hear you, they might choose Run-DNC as their new crappy pun

[-] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 7 points 13 hours ago

I guess more people should've voted for Bernie in 2020.

[-] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

There were also the superdelegates.

[-] pfried@reddthat.com 2 points 6 hours ago

The superdelegates vote for whoever the primary voters vote for. https://www.politico.com/story/2008/06/superdelegates-surge-to-obama-010792

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 13 points 16 hours ago

It will be 2036 and AOC will make her presidential bid and the DNC will be like "guess we need to get the shovel to dig Biden back up"

[-] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 1 points 9 hours ago

Ugh, and here I thought 3 was where it should have all ended. PS2 gameplay was fine, and the story had the 'ending' it needed!

[-] InputZero@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

It's Tricky

[-] Spinoza@lemmy.ml 27 points 19 hours ago

I know people were saying this since at least the 80s and I wasn’t even born. Hillary’s not just stating the obvious, shes rattling off old talking points of the dem platform.

[-] underisk@lemmy.ml 21 points 19 hours ago

You’re telling me that dems have known about this problem for decades but did nothing but fundraise and campaign on it? How unlike them!

[-] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 35 points 21 hours ago

Yeah. I remember saying this shit 10+ years ago too. Jesus fuck I'm tired....

[-] Godric@lemmy.world 35 points 20 hours ago

They gutted the Voting Rights Act LITERALLY YESTERDAY, you absolute muppet.

[-] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 24 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

"Progress we made in allowing for this to happen".

Democrats are complicit in all the shit happening. They shit on republicans but then never do anything to change things when they are back in power. Fuck that cunt, even if she was right. A broken clock is correct twice a day too.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 5 hours ago

they also have been banking on "not trump, or not bush" obama somewhat broke that mold slightly, but this embolden racist even more.

[-] Godric@lemmy.world 25 points 20 hours ago

Democrats lack power -> Republicans do evil shit -> Democrats can't stop them -> Blame the Democrats -> Democrats lack power -> Republicans do evil shit ->

On and on and on. If your house was burning down, you'd blame the firefighter, not the arsonist.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 5 hours ago

i suspect many non-voters fall in 2 camps, they like republicans but cant openly support or vote for them so they go for someone like jill stein or rfk jr(like 2million went to both) to appear like they are not trumpers and then the totally ignorant ones that dont vote(this doesnt affect me now and my vote doesnt matter)

[-] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 27 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

It's more like this:

Funny how republicans always seem to have power to make things worse, but democrats never have enough power to reverse these things.

Almost as if both parties are funded by the same billionaires pushing the same agendas, just in different colors.

You need to stop consuming their propaganda (from both parties).

[-] Godric@lemmy.world 25 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

You need to stop working off of vibes and think about policy. Off the top of my head:

Obamacare, anti-monopoly regulation, non-compete agreements ban, Russia sanctions + Ukraine support, not ignoring covid, women's bodily autonomy, CLIMATE CHANGE

But fuck it, you didn't get ice cream, the total destruction of capitalism, and a blow job on top of that, so now we have AI-enhanced gestapo invading cities. It's very easy to be the enlightened centrist and say "both sides same" when it clearly isn't actually impacting your life.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 17 points 18 hours ago

They didn't say both sides were the same they said the Democrats weren't doing enough to fight. Which is true. Democrats are constantly conceding shit and compromising when Republicans want to do shit.

[-] sunrisepirate@piefed.social 9 points 16 hours ago

Almost as if both parties are funded by the same billionaires pushing the same agendas, just in different colors.

It seems like they did say both sides are the same.

[-] anarchiddy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 15 hours ago

The same billionaires with the same agendas can be donors to both parties without those parties being the same

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 5 points 15 hours ago

Almost as if

They're saying it seems like this because Dems don't fight hard enough.

[-] sunrisepirate@piefed.social 6 points 16 hours ago

Ratchet effect is a made up talking point facists propagate on the internet to suppress voter turn out.

Fun fact: they call it an "effect" to make it sound scientific and well researched. It's really just a fabricated fantasy to encourage apathy and hopelessness.

[-] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

It's the reality. USA is fucked with its two party system, both funded by the same billionaires with the same agendas. It's sad you don't see it, just look at where it got you... It got you to fascism, ironically.

The world saw it coming long ago, then it came, and now it's right in front of your nose and yet, here you are, still defending the system that got you into this fascist pedo mess.

[-] sunrisepirate@piefed.social 3 points 15 hours ago

I get you want to spread fascist propaganda, but "the ratchet effect" isn't real in any sense.

The system is fucked, but not because of scary made up propaganda. It's fucked because clowns spread FUD and hopelessness to suppress voter turn out. In the end it leads to facism and a country ruled by pesos and rapists, it's sad you don't see it.

[-] Katana314@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

Republicans have power because Republican voters choose to give it to them. The only reason I ever hear for that is that “Democrats don’t do enough”. The only excuse Democrats ever have for not doing enough is that Republicans have power.

By “having power”, I’m not referring to having a 51 majority. One or two corrupt dissidents is common for a political party, so it needs safeguards against no votes. Any “49” party still has a lot of sway as long as they can convince anyone. I’m talking about having 80% power.

That slogan was truly ahead of its time. It kinda works in 2026 in an ironic sort of way.
