Don't worry, Krankenwagen is just the colloquial term, the technical terms are even better.

German actually has the word "Ambulanz", but it means "walk-in clinic".

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 8 points 4 days ago

Which makes sense since ambulare = Latin to walk.

[-] nysqin@feddit.org 4 points 4 days ago

We also use that word to describe an ambulance, funnily enough.

I’m feeling Krank. Call a Krankenwagen to take me to the Krankenhaus!

[-] Airfried@piefed.social 10 points 4 days ago

Funny thing the Japanese still use the word kranker for patient while Germans use patient.

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 7 points 4 days ago

Cf. also karute from German Karte for a patient's chart and biirusu/uirusu from German Virus and a bunch of other medical terminology Japan adopted when they were mates with Prussia.

You lay in the Krankenbett in Krankenhauskleidung then.

Well yeah, countries that speak Romance languages use the Latin-derived word. English is the odd one out thanks to the French influence.
