It’s called robbing. They rob Venezuela.

[-] deleted@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Yeah Venezuela just got mugged by the US.

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

Not even the first time

[-] Lanske@lemmy.world 71 points 2 days ago

The media shouldn't be using words like 'secure', it's plain stealing, robbing. Nothing else

[-] ms_lane@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago

France was smart, sold their gold in-situ and purchased new gold in EU that is stored in France.

Never have to worry about the fact that US probably already sold the gold, since they sold it in-situ.

Never have to worry about the fact that US probably already sold the gold

People keep saying stuff like this. But I have never seen even a shred of evidence that it is true. A good tinfoil hat conspiracy theory should at least have some hint of its reality.

[-] HK65@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 days ago

Who bought the nonexistent gold?

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

Probably a bunch of armageddon preppers or something

[-] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago

The English-language media is bought by the US

[-] tias@discuss.tchncs.de 82 points 2 days ago

"intervention". Fucking news.

[-] Naich@piefed.world 41 points 2 days ago

The whole fucking article is just euphemisms.

[-] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 days ago

What do you expect from a site called oilprice.com?

[-] webp@mander.xyz 24 points 2 days ago

"british move to secure land from natives"

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

"Securing", my ass. I don't know how much that is, but it have a good chance to be the biggest heist ever. Trump seems to like superlatives associated with his name...

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Probably needs it for his "Ballroom".

[-] criscodisco@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

On one hand, I guess it’s good that we are no longer pretending to not be an imperial nation and have given in fully to empire.

On the other hand, fuck me I'm so ashamed of this country. I wish people could pay attention to the shit we are doing.

[-] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 24 points 2 days ago

They can’t stop thieving can they?

Thieves, rapists, kid rapists, kid killers.

[-] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago

See it's not stealing, it's securing

[-] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Of course, it’s different isn’t it, I forgot

[-] Aliktren@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago

[-] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 9 points 2 days ago

To the surprise of no one…

I wonder what Venezuelans think of this. Do they feel freer after the military operation that removed Maduro? Is Maduro's No. 2 a better president to them? Has life gotten better? What do they think of this new leader letting others take what belongs to the Venezuelan people? Do they know when the next elections will take place?

[-] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Small sample/anecdotic, but the ones I know see it a s "not freed, only under new management".

Mind is people that already left due to how things were, so they had little love for maduro to begin with.

[-] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 11 points 2 days ago

Making sure there is still something in the vault after every other country pulled back their gold out of the USA.

[-] Papierkorb@feddit.org 8 points 2 days ago

Most US Americans appear to have no issue with this.

[-] criscodisco@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Bro most Americans don’t even know about this

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

I am amazed whenever a 'murican can even correctly point where Mexico and Canada are in a map. The bar is that low

[-] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 2 days ago

It seems to be common for people here to think the general population is as well informed as Lemmy is.

  • The U.S. has brokered new gold deals with Venezuela as part of a broader push to reshape the country’s resource sector under its influence.

  • Venezuela is opening its oil and mining industries to foreign investment to rebuild output after years of decline.

  • Serious concerns remain over environmental destruction and human rights abuses linked to mining in the Orinoco region.

In short; oil.
