Apparently this is the arcade version of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. The Genesis version was a side-scroller.

I actually dig the chiptune Smooth Criminal.

Edit: Oh damn, cock-bot shows up at 8:25 and they're doing chiptune Beat It instead.

Oh, you're right! Must've been misnamed like half of the other 1000+ games it shipped with.

[-] Apeman42@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Oh, I didn't even parse that you were naming the game in the title. I just read it as a description of the gif, lol.

I have it for Sega Master System. Pretty strange game. The sound effect when you rescue kids from trunks of cars sticks with me for some reason.

Thanks Michael.

Annie, are you okay?

Are you okay, Annie?

You've been hit by a smooth robodick!

[-] cybervseas@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Annie prob not okay after that one…

It's giving Catherine the Great.

[-] brsrklf@jlai.lu 2 points 1 month ago

That... shaft doesn't look that smooth to me.

Whether this is better or worse is left to everyone's appreciation.

Michael took that dick robot pretty hard.

Is he OK? Is he ok?

[-] captain_oni 15 points 1 month ago

He's been hit by... He's been struck by... A smooth metal shaft.

Too soon. Too soon.

No, nevermind, it has been long enough.

moonwalker on genesis?? this game was so hyped when it came out. we all freaked hearing the soundtracks the first time. really kinda cookie cutter for the era, cept for the turnin-into-a-robot bit

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 6 points 1 month ago

I only played it in the arcade, and this was on mame. I never played the Genesis one. But yeah, it was labeled thriller in the menu but like a ton of other games the thing shipped with, was probably mislabeled.

OP's mind while recording that bit:

"I'm bad! I'm bad! I'm really, really bad!"

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

I was definitely not good

Any recommendations for this? I’ve been pretty guilty about just using emulators to play and replay Pokemon games and Pokemon ROMhacks.

I do happen to have just been gifted a R36S as well. So far I have really only used it to play Pokemon Crystal for about 15 minutes.

[-] otp@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

I'll recommend in a different direction. Abomi Nation on Steam is basically like if Pokemon were built around Nuzlockes challenges. Often goes on sale for only a few bucks. It doesn't have any real Pokemon, but I really like the designs.

If you're looking for other games to play, check out RetroAchievements. They have all kinds of events and stuff to reduce the "decision paralysis" that can come from having access to way too many games.

It's worth it for a few minutes, but it's obviously made as a quarter muncher. I was like 5 credits in by the time I got to that thing. I didn't go much further.

I remember this game at the arcade at one of the local pizza joints circa 1993.

[-] twotonebax@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago
