And I'm unaware of a better alternative

Exit: if another person suggested Lemmy or piefed, I swear to god

1660 upvotes.

EDIT: Didn't see the community this was so maybe this was an overly negative comment. I just get so exasperated by people and their attitude. Reddit literally does nothing special except have a bunch of users, yet people refuse to move even when an alternative is provided.

[-] fizzbang@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

I moved. Goodbye Reddit. It used to be fun.

[-] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 32 points 1 day ago

Yeah... it's fucking annoying social media brainrot shit.

"If only there was a better way."

"Here you go."

"OMG STFU NERD" 🙄

Shows you who is being performative and who is real.

it's like this meme

"Lemmy is good but the huge problem is the waiting process to sign up. You also have to pledge to contribute to Lemmy if you get access."

lol never change reddit

[-] expatriado@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

you used your remaining Lemmy Coins® on that comment, i hope it was worth it

[-] Kirk@startrek.website 12 points 1 day ago

all good I'm mining more as we speak

that's right everyone lemmy is a crypto thing too

[-] MerryJaneDoe@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago

That sounds like a psyop by a Reddit intern.

That reminds me, what should I bring to the Lemmy compulsory member loyalty gathering tonight? The goat head and my kid's left hand, or the pig's head and her left foot?

Love that people complain about reddit but then also refuse to leave. It's sad, really. Why contribute to sustaining a shitty corp in your free time?

[-] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 15 points 1 day ago

It honestly bothers me to no end, people would rather constantly complain than do the bare minimum to make an account elsewhere. Happens with all of the big platforms, Reddit, TikTok, X, Facebook, etc...

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

the most childish one is r/youtube, livestream they constantly complain how bad it is, yet they are still consuming it and going as far as defending the YOUTUBERS/influencers. i dont know why you are complaining about it when you are still avidly watching it.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

they would have to be shadowbanned for them to do that, they are took addicted. plus there are large communities not found anywhere else.

[-] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 day ago

If I wasn’t permabanned from Reddit, I’d be spreading the word. It’s so much nicer over here… but I’m also aware that I said the same thing when I moved from BBS/Usenet to Reddit.

Also, why is Instagram such a hell hole? Between Reddit and Fedi I made a brief stop into Meta products and it was full of the worst kind of people (comments). I’d pick 4chan/b over Instashits.

[-] JayGray91@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Idk my slice of Instagram is fine. Like all social media, I curate my feed like an authoritarian would its nation. Anything I don't want to see, I block. I follow few nowadays (I'm culling my following spree from more naive times)

I'd like to say the same with bluesky and mastodon but the people I follow on shitter, mostly artists and big-ish vtubers, are not there. So

Threaded forums like reddit I'm more than willing to move to and contribute at the very least as commenters. I mean yeah I'm already here more lol

Lemmy is like pre-2015 reddit

I found it too focused on weird like, communist Linux-using privacy nerd sort of views, topics, and humor.

For the sake of optics, the Lemmy developers should make an effort to disassociate .ml from Lemmy itself. They have every right to run their own instance as they see fit, but too many users are falsely associating Lemmy as a whole with .ml.

Still, the average Reddit user is frustratingly more willing to put up with the platform's enshittification than learn how to manage blocks on the Fediverse to tailor their feed to their liking.

I joined a couple of months ago and still have no idea how it all really works.

And it's really not so important that I understand the minutia. People stumble around the internet all the time, making happy little discoveries and finding new communities. It's kind of the way things used to work - we didn't ask, we were just happily amused.

Everything is possible

[-] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No, it's good. Keeps most of the nazis and W*nd*ws users out.

[-] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Reddit users may be misguided, but most of them aren't Nazis.

Also, while it's good to help users in switching to Linux when requested, users shouldn't feel unwelcome here simply for using Windows.

[-] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Uhh, have you seen the place? To be fair, many of the extreme ones could be bots.

Users who are forced to use Windows for work, compatibility, etc. have my sympathy. Surely the PNGVN is most merciful. But those who willingly reject the Beaked One and persist in their ignorant ways are beyond saving.

Yes? Reddit, mostly, is way to the left of Twitter. It's less "left" to be fair but heavily liberal but it really isn't a right-wing pool. Some subreddits might be.

Users who are forced to use Windows for work, compatibility, etc. have my sympathy. Surely the PNGVN is most merciful. But those who willingly reject the Beaked One and persist in their ignorant ways are beyond saving.

This is silly.

[-] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 9 points 1 day ago

It would be nice if people pointed to specific lemmy servers instead of "Lemmy".

[-] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Posting Threadiverse URLs gets posts automatically shadowbanned on Reddit, unfortunately; people should go into more detail when recommending Lemmy or Piefed though. People jump in expecting a 1:1 Reddit experience, and end up getting confused by federation and giving up.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

reddit comes down hard on any unaffiliated links.

[-] Skavau@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

I will if they reply with a grievance or query, to be fair. I just don't want to copy and paste a dump of information at them across the thread.
