This is, in fact, the Onion

The truly sad thing is that if the community name weren't shown I would absolutely have eaten this onion. There is no stoop too low for this "administration."

Not sure what you're getting at, Courage.

Gah, I read your comment wrong. I shall forever bear this shame.

Wait ... you edited it and I don't remember what it originally said.

[-] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 2 points 5 hours ago

I corrected a word that GBoard misread my swipe on. The fourth word originally was "this" instead of "thing" - IOW, nothing of significance.

My shame knows no bounds.

So, um. What's going on here? Lots of deleted comments, plus an onion article posted to 'nottheonion'?

Edit: ah, my dyslexic ass just realized what was going on. I guess it's a gotcha?

my dyslexic ass

Guessing that means you have a classic case of shit for brains?

Edit: for the downvoters, this was a dad joke - not intended as an insult, but if you're too straight-laced to see that, I guess I can get why you don't like it. That's fine - I'll admit bad Dad jokes are sometimes an acquired taste.

I just saw this, so I'm not one of those 'downvoters' but I am curious. The only type of 'dad' joke this reads as is a crass and down putting dad. Most 'dad jokes' will rely on word play, so I looked up the etymology of dyslexia to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Even back in the day they weren't as cruel as 'shit for brains'.

Could you please explain the joke for me. Since I apparently have shit for brains?

When ~~they~~ you said "...my dyslexic ass just realized...", it made me envision ~~their~~ your ass doing the thinking. If the ass is functioning as ~~their~~ your head, then the brains inside the "head" are made of shit.

That was more or less the train of thought I had. I really didn't mean offense - I figured fans of The Onion would be less likely to take such comments seriously, but I guess I read the room wrong.

[-] PaupersSerenade@sh.itjust.works 4 points 16 hours ago

Ah, I guess I can see that word play. Thanks for clarifying! It did come off pretty strong and I'd guess I'm not the only one who didn't see that mental link. I was just wondering what I said that made you think so little of me.

[-] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 2 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

I don't know you, so the only thing I had to go on was your comment - and judging from other comments here, you're far from the only one thrown off by the community name, so it's not something to attack anyway, IMHO.

Attacking people isn't really my thing, anyway. At least it wasn't. I have to admit I'm so bitterly angry about the insane progression of destruction which selfish & self-righteous right-wingers have been causing in the world that I'm much more easily triggered than I used to be.

Bad dad jokes seem to have become my outlet for the extreme levels of anger, disgust, and depression it's all caused me to feel. I'm sorry if this one made you feel attacked as that was not my intention.

ETA: gonna go now before I step my foot in... ahem ...shit again.
