You are quite correct, I should have said the book highlighted those issues, not that it was about them. As Sinclair said, "I aimed at the public's heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach."
While socialism never took off to the extent Sinclair hoped, we did get the Pure Food and Drug Act and Meat Inspection Act, though those are feeling more like suggestions rather than standards with things like these policy changes and how cleanliness and food safety were treated through the COVID epidemic.

Even more dangerous for the animals? The whole place is purpose built to kill them. I think it's already pretty much peak danger for the animals. I think rather, what these workplaces are becoming is more cruel.

No, a third voted for it. And another third didn't vote at all. 2/3rds of all eligible voters either voted for or just accepted the results. Only 1/3rd of eligible voters voted against it.
America voted for this, or didn't care if this happened at all, therefore voting for the result. Not voting has consequences.
I don't think you realize how much voter suppression is in the US. Those in power don't want us voting and are still trying to put up more barriers against it.
I didn't realize how much voter suppression there was till I moved to a more progressive state where I was shocked I didn't have to jump through a ton of hoops to vote and could register online. This was recent too not years ago.
I love living in Colorado - voting by mail is a delight. Of course Pedonald wants to ruin that, too. Everything Pedonald touches turns to shit.
