The GDR coat of arms or the WPK emblem are nice variations

Compass and Hammer from the flag of East Germany

Brush, Sickle, and Hammer from the Workers Party Of Korea Emblem

Quills have been used in a bunch of variations. Cogwheels too

[-] sushiatnight@lemmy.ml 7 points 6 months ago

I absolutely love the WPK emblem.

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 7 points 6 months ago

Always thought the GDR and WPK had awesome h&s variations!

[-] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

The WPK emblem is perfection.

The GDR's is exactly what I would expect out of German communism. "We have the two working classes: laborers and engineers"

[-] communism@lemmy.ml 31 points 6 months ago

It didn't symbolise that. It symbolises the unity between the industrial proletariat and the peasantry. It's not about different proletarian occupations; it's about a class alliance between two working classes.

The peasantry doesn't exist anymore in most parts of the world, but imo most people understand the hammer and sickle to symbolise communism anyway so it still works.

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 8 points 6 months ago

Can't believe I missed that in the title, yea, peasantry aren't proletarian but instead they are their own class.

Bluetooth headset and an uber eats food carrier

The same, honestly. These jobs never went away, they were just shifted out of the imperial core to the periphery. It's a symbol of two classes, the proletariat and the peasantry. While the peasantry has been mostly phased out, its symbol remains.

I don't think the scythe really represents farming in the modern era though.

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 7 points 6 months ago

Neither does the hammer for the average industrial worker, but both are symbolic.

[-] EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted 16 points 6 months ago

Definitely just the hammer & sickle. It still very much applies.

Alternatively, though this is not strictly Communism but Socialism, I really like the common logo used for Democratic Socialism, the Fist and Rose!

I also really like the logo of the Democratic Socialists of America!

Except not all comrades are white-collar workers.

A very large number of us, believe it or not, are blue collar.

(I'm one of them.)

An espresso group head and an AI prompt.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 9 points 6 months ago

Probably just an updated hammer and sickle, really.

Like someone here in the commercial said, today the labour is to much diverse and there probably couldny be just a few symbols. I Just fucking love so much the red star, it's very iconic but also simple. Idk thou

[-] ComradePenguin@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 months ago

I like this one, especially. The DPRK one is great as well

Laptop and Starbucks cup 🥰🥰

[-] draco_aeneus@mander.xyz 5 points 6 months ago

I think modern labour might be too diverse to cover properly with only a few symbols. We're no longer uniting two labour forces, material conditions have changed. I think that instead of focusing on types of labour, we might instead focus on what the movement can bring.

We could put basic human rights on a theoretical new flag. A drop represents access to water, bread represents access to food, and a roof over both.

If you want a new flag, picking something that unites is all (our needs) might be a good way to go.

I think the ACP has a neat symbol. It's too bad the party is ass.

Edit: Before anybody gives me shit about it, it's a conservative party.

[-] folaht@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

This is the way I see it:

Primary sector: Agriculture - Sickle - Manufactures edible goods
Secondary sector: Industry - Hammer - Manufactures non-edible goods
Tertiary sector: Service - Mop - Helps people through transporting goods, repairing goods, cleaning, healing organisms, cashiering and catering.
Quarternary sector: Authority - Pen - Provides Law and Order through Government, Justice, Police, Education, Political, Media and Mental support (Psychiatry & Religion)
Quinary sector: Finance - Banknote - Gambles
Sextary sector: Automation - Cogwheel - Destroys jobs

As the service sector is large and sextary sector petite bourgeoisie than the service sector I suggest the following:

Mop and Pizza Box

I do think we're not there yet though.
Both objects are accurate but I feel like we need something more aggressive to show that we're revolutionary.
Hammers and sickles are both tools that can be used as weapons.

[edit #3]

Changed Judiciary to Authority.
Changed entertainment media from service sector to authority sector so now all media is in the authority sector, as plenty of entertainment shows have tried to and sometimes successfully driven people to adept to their political world views or even driven into political action.

[edit #2]

On second thought, perhaps I’ll replace syringe with pizza box. It evens out the sexes, both mop and syringe are practiced most often by women (cleaning lady and nurse), while transportation of goods is more often preferred by men as carrying goods can sometimes be physically demanding.

[edit]

I changed the Syringe to mop in the Tertiary sector as suggested by mech,
although I have to say that nurse is very common job,
which is why I chose the syringe.
Same goes for delivery person, but I'm betting on it being automated away faster than nursehood.

I crossed out cogwheel as a symbol for the proletariat as I realize that I consider a subsector of this (engineers) to be one part of the ruling class (the other being scholars) within socialism and thus not the proletariat.

[-] mech@feddit.org 4 points 6 months ago

I feel like the one tool that's used by the most workers in the Tertiary sector is the mop.
Every office in the world needs to be cleaned. And it's part of the job for everyone in retail or food service, too.

[-] folaht@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

You convinced me:
I changed Pizza box to Mop and put Syringe in second place.

[-] childeofentropy@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 months ago

may i ask why do you consider engineers and scholars as part of the ruling class/not part of the proletariat?

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 months ago

Engineers are overwhelmingly proletarian, and all classes produce their own intellectuals, meaning there are bourgeois scholars and proletarian scholars.

[-] Pirat@lemmy.org 4 points 6 months ago

a manual particle collector (broom) and a manual particle shifter (shovel).

[-] kindnesskills@literature.cafe 3 points 6 months ago

Protective gloves representing a lot of blue collars like industrial, mechanical, medical, and maintenance, cleaning.

Keyboard or headset (I considered outlook calendar or zoom symbols, but dont think a specific company should be immortalised here) for a lot of white collars.

[-] Ladislawgrowlo@lemy.lol 2 points 5 months ago

Two symbols: A cracked skull to remember the people who died in wars. A sword to fight oppression.

[-] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 months ago

A couch and a cell phone.
