I got 6 I think

Radiohead.
Alice in chains.
Smashing pumpkins.
Nine Inch Nails.
Matchbox 20.
Pearl jam.

[-] gh0stb4tz@lemmy.world 50 points 2 weeks ago

The other three are:

Hole (Courtney Love’s band) Screaming Trees Soundgarden

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

I thought hole might have been one, and screaming trees was totally just something random I said in my head.

Can't believe I missed Soundgarden

[-] voxthefox 4 points 2 weeks ago

I think hole is actually puddle of mudd, but either works i guess

[-] prettybunnys@piefed.social 16 points 2 weeks ago
[-] voxthefox 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah you're probably right, I didn't realize most of their famous work was post 2000

[-] gh0stb4tz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Huh… I’ve never heard of that band before. Did they have a famous song with heavy rotation on MTV back in the day? If not, I must have missed them.

[-] Hellinabucket@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah but they were early 2000s not 90s.

[-] Alabaster_Mango@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

They formed in 1992 and released their first album in 1997. Granted, not a lot of airplay on that, and they didn't really get much notice until their second album in 2001. I could totally see them being included if someone was just googling "90s bands" though.

[-] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

They had a couple: "Blurry" and "She Hates Me" come to mind

[-] Rebels_Droppin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

If you ever played rockband 1 their song "Celebrity Skin" was featured. That's how I know of them

[-] voxthefox 2 points 2 weeks ago

She hates me was the big one I remember, but apparently that was in 2001 so they're right its probably hole

[-] Jarix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Blurry I think charted better

[-] Klear@quokk.au 4 points 2 weeks ago

Also Skibidi toilet.

Fucking Perl Jam... I could not decipher peanut butter and drug sandwhich :)

Thanks

[-] TrumpetX@programming.dev 4 points 2 weeks ago

What jam bottle has a handle? But then after you know, it's the lid on it's side.

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I was thinking beer and marmite, like is this some obscure Australian band I don't know about?

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

Wait screaming trees is actually the name of a band?

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 12 points 2 weeks ago

It feels like there is a non zero chance that this graphic was made by a member of the Screaming Trees, because nobody k ows who that is, certainly not at the level of the other 8. Like, Stone Temple Pilots would be a good actual 9th. Maybe Garbage.

[-] moody@lemmings.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Screaming Trees were a big name in grunge (not part of tge big 5, but in the same scene) in the 90's and have collaborated with several of the other bands in this image. Mark Lanegan (rip) has gone solo and done a bunch of stuff with Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, and Eddie Vedder since then.

[-] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago

He also sang some of Queens of the Stone Age's best songs.

[-] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think I heard more than one song by Garbage until they did that Bond theme song.

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

I guess I was in a different music loop, I liked Garbage (the album) and Version 2.0. V2.0 in particular is one of my favorite albums from High School.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

sound garden

alice in chains

smashing pumpkins

pearl jam

matchbox 20

[-] Staden_@pawb.social 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I could only recognize 5 so far

  • alice in chains
  • smashing pumpkins
  • sound garden
  • radio head
  • puddle of mudd
I was born in the 2000's but I grew up listening to 90's music

edit:HOW COULD I NOT RECOGNIZE PEARL JAM?!

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 4 points 2 weeks ago

I can get 7, no idea who wailing trees or nails in plank are.

[-] cile.sb@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

nails in plank: Nine Inch Nails :D

[-] calliope@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

It’s Hole, not Puddle of Mudd. But if you were born in the 2000s that would explain why!

Hole was a more famous 90s band, Puddle of Mudd didn’t have success until the album Come Clean, released in 2001.

[-] PostaL@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

edit:HOW COULD I NOT RECOGNIZE PEARL JAM?!

... because that looked to me like a mug, not a jar with a lid next to it

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I had 5, but one different...

spoilerI missed Sound garden, you missed nine inch nails and matchbox 20.

[-] DahGangalang@infosec.pub 4 points 2 weeks ago

So I've got 6:

  • Nine inch nails
  • Alice in Chains
  • Matchbox 20
  • Radiohead
  • Smashing Pumpkins
  • Sound Garden

Unclear what the hole, the screaming trees, and the (jelly?) sandwich are, but I bet those are the other 3 I'm missing.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 3 points 2 weeks ago

Americans call jelly jam, and i assume those are pearls.

[-] CyanideShotInjection@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe in the meantime you got the answers from the other comments, but appart from Pearl Jam, the other two you pretty much guessed them accidentally : Hole and Screaming Trees.

[-] BlackVenom@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Am I the only one trying count hands and also wondering why "hands from the 90s"...

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

What's on the table between the matchbox and the jar, and why does the jar have a handle?

[-] ContriteErudite@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

It's a jar with the lid leaning against it. The jar is full of jam, and a butter knife is spreading the jam on bread. The jam also has pearls in it.

Pearl Jam

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Oh! I see it, thank you and the others replied, I see it now.

[-] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

That's a lid, not a handle, and it's a butter knife spreading the substance in the jar on a piece of toast. I couldn't tell what that was on the table either

[-] uienia@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Even though I lived through the 90s and was into most of those bands, I have never even heard of Matchbox 20. So that was the only one I couldn't guess.
