The southern area of the capital, near a major military base, was also without electricity, according to Reuters.

The child rapist wants oil so yeah.

Let's just hope this becomes his Vietnam.

[-] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 3 days ago

Let’s hope it doesn’t actually.

A large number of people died there.

Yeah, and hopefully, all that people dying this time are usonians!

[-] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

That’s not how war works.

[-] Lemmynated@lemmy.zip 18 points 3 days ago

Let’s hope he fucks up so badly he loses this.

[-] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

And while at it, he suffers a stroke and doesn't recover! That would be nice! He'll be remembered for being a child rapist and losing the only war he started.

[-] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I'd love for him to be totally incapacitated bit still rolled out as the god emperor for a while. Dribbling his syphilitic spittle onto his paunch.

Update: apparently this was a kidnapping, according to Trump the US captured Maduro and his wife and are flying them out of the country.

Two hours later and it doesn't look like an actual invasion, at least not with this initial strike - the US just announced we'll release a statement when we've finished withdrawing our aircraft and there's been no sign of troops being deployed. The speculation from the various news orgs has been that this was just to intimidate Maduro after his recent apparently successful meeting with the Chinese envoy. Venezuela has begun mobilizing it's military in response (pretty reasonable) and there's still no information about strikes outside Caracas, so at the moment the information we have is pointing to this being limited in scope.

[-] NoTagBacks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 days ago

I mean, at the rate this is escalating, this could easily be a full-blown invasion by the end of the month. It's crazy how obliviously stupid this administration is when it comes to geopolitics. With how incompetent they are, I understand they think this could be some quick special operation or whatever, but they're fucking around real fucking close to kicking off a world war where we all find out. And let's be clear: nuclear war(if it goes that far) will not end in a world like fallout; we will absolutely all die and take most and probably all life with us. So on top of the obvious imperialist evil bullshit, this is even existentially stupid.

[-] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

No argument about the escalation rate, just that at the moment this attack does not appear to be part of an active invasion.

I am not a professional wonk I confess, just a talented amateur, but I find it unlikely that the invasion of Venezuela is going to result in nuclear weapons being deployed. I just don't believe China cares enough about VZ to end the world in defense of it's currently fairly limited interests there.

[-] NoTagBacks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that this was an invasion or that an invasion would necessitate ww3, more so agreeing that this isn't an invasion(given the lack of scale) yet noting that the rate of escalation in Venezuela has been unprecedented. So quick that it could be escalated to a full-on invasion by the end of the month. Also considering the incompetence of the trump admin in foreign diplomacy, the involvement of multiple world powers, and the sheer tension between those worlds powers, it's not improbable that war in Venezuela could escalate to ww3. Given that we just straight up have never seen actual direct full-scale war between two nuclear powers, it's also possible that this all leads to nuclear war. These are all hypotheticals and do require something extra to each step to come to fruition, but they're not that far from plausible and my point is that the sheer stupidity of the trump administration is enough of a wild card to make that a possibility. Personally, I doubt that series of events will happen, we'll probably have some stupid spec-ops bay-of-pigs part 2(but even stupider this time) kind of scenario.

But yeah, I'm generally agreeing with you and pointing out how stupid it is with an extreme hypothetical example.

[-] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Ah, in that case I wholeheartedly agree

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago

The United States? Probably.

[-] H1AA6329S@lemmy.world 37 points 3 days ago

Now imagine Russia do the same thing. Oh wait. Honestly speaking, I guess that's why Trump aka small hands are such a good friend with Putin aka khuylo

[-] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 11 points 3 days ago

Now imagine Russia do the same thing.

I can't imagine this. Simply because Putin's formalist and usage of military force have always been coming after parliament approval.

[-] freebee@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Well the difference obviously is that Russia failed it's coup in Ukraine where this USA intervention in Venezuela, from their point of view at least, seems like it succeeded. History is always written by the winners, and so are the laws to prosecute the losers. Great distraction timing too of course for Epstein-trump

[-] hopesdead@startrek.website 18 points 3 days ago

If this turns out to be the U.S., I will be very disappointed. At least with Iraq, Bush had the courage to announce we were attacking.

[-] mr_account@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago

Prepare for disappointment then

[-] SourGumGum@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Make it double!

[-] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 26 points 3 days ago

Do you live under a rock? Of course it’s the US.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

By lying about proof of weapons of mass destruction, I'm not sure it's better, just a different flavor of evil.

[-] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 7 points 3 days ago

Bush Jr was much more of a president than this schlong.

[-] Concussed@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 days ago

Which is sayin somthin...

[-] macaw_dean_settle@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

He is not a Junior; he does not have the same middle name.

[-] hopesdead@startrek.website 2 points 3 days ago

IF?

Mate, this is not an "if" it's a "when".

[-] tlekiteki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

Trump said he would order land attacks.

[-] Quokka@quokk.au 8 points 3 days ago

Apparently they have planes up to refuel in air, potentially signifying a longer sustained attack by US forces.

Venezuelan forces are deploying.

Which tracker is this? I'm not seeing it on adsb exchange.

[-] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It's a screenshot from FlightRadar24, but I can't find that plane having been flying. Not unreasonable that they would have been but their conclusion that it's an indication of sustained operations is pretty tenuous, there's lots of reasons for a tanker to be up (and the planes appear to have been withdrawn from VZ airspace so it's a moot point at the moment).

[-] Quokka@quokk.au 1 points 3 days ago

Not sure sorry, came from a telegram group.

[-] kandoh@reddthat.com 4 points 3 days ago

Trump has always been jealous of Obama getting Bin Laden and each term tries desperately to recreate something similar for himself.

[-] Mihies@programming.dev 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

That will scare the shit of of China to not invade Taiwan. /s

[-] twinnie@feddit.uk 3 points 3 days ago

This’ll probably wind up being a bad thing but I don’t think anyone will be upset about Maduro. It’d be a real shame if he didn’t listen to the flight attendants and took off his seatbelt and accidentally fell out of the plane and landed in a volcano.

[-] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

don’t think anyone will be upset about Maduro

Yeah. Dude lost the last election and said, “Nah I’m good.”

But that doesn’t justify the US kidnapping him. This is…insane.
