It must be difficult to be an American watching Trump destroy the country your ancestors have been building for hundreds of years. He has caused massive generational and irreversible damage at this point and its only getting worse.

Oh, and China just set a trade surplus record above 1 trillion thanks to Trump, first and only country to do that, how is all that winning going?

[-] KnitWit@lemmy.world 61 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What’s even harder is watching family and neighbors try to explain why it’s a good thing.

[-] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

Time to cut those people out of your life. It’s hard, but you know it’s true.

[-] KnitWit@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

I basically already have (years ago). But when you’ve got family that hasn’t been cut off, the ones who have still manage to make appearances.

[-] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago

Some of those morons need an exit ramp

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

Can't, my grandmother is elderly and I'm the only one of her kids/grandkids who talks to her, not really her fault on that one my mother is insane my uncle was stupid and the other grandkids are more or less different family outside of blood due to custody or cutoff reasons. Also she is also effectively my mother and is the woman who raised me.

Figure I can work out any frustration by car bombing random trumpers if a civil war breaks out.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

I wonder how they'll spin it when he publicly burns the constitution

[-] sploder@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

From my experience they just say “ that didn’t really happen, that was twisted into a lie, he wouldn’t ever do that “ - these people never, ever admit anything that is proven to be true. It’s always some contrarian, idiotic “ I know better than you “ take. It’s hopeless.

[-] KnitWit@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Yep. ‘What about when Joe Biden made us all wear masks and fired anyone who wouldn’t.’ And then everything gets de-railed trying to explain that Biden was not president at that time.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

No, I think they'll celebrate it

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

It's all going exactly as everyone with 2+ braincells predicted.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

It’s insanely difficult. All of this shit has substantially changed who I am at my core. I opted not to leave the country a few years back because my parents wouldn’t have been able to get in anywhere else for being too old.

Now I’m pretty much waiting around for this whole thing to get rebooted.

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 days ago

Now I’m pretty much waiting around for this whole thing to get rebooted.

That's part of the problem. Everyone is standing around waiting for someone else to fix it for them.

You gotta pull together with others and work as a group to fight back.

I know group cooperation towards a common goal runs counter to the "nation of rugged individuals " mythos that Americans have for themselves, but that's what it will take.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I live 4 days drive from DC

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

How far are you from your state legislature? Or from your congressman's office?

And, again, have you got together with other people to combine your voices?

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I'm involved with DSA in my area.

I think we're talking about different solutions.

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

I'm involved with DSA in my area.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

It can't be rebooted until the series finale ends... in civil war.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Yeah, we're in a mid-season plot stretch to see if this administration can "weekend at Bernie's" a vapid blathering demential patient for another year so that JD Vance can get 2.5 terms as president.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 days ago

My ancestors were forced from their land by the American government in an event known as the Trail of Tears. So this is kinda a mixed bag for me really…

I'm guessing hes copying the Arc de Triomphe simply because he hasn't seen the Brandenburger Tor.

I wonder when he's gonna approach Hugo Boss for new uniforms for the Secret Service.

[-] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Promise you he doesn’t know the difference between the two. Or that the other exists.

[-] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 49 points 5 days ago

Just a reminder to any DC area contractors who may or may not be involved in upcoming unnamed construction projects: a couple bags of sugar or 2-liters of cola added to a truckload of concrete will drastically alter setting times and compromise the final strength of construction.

Just a fun little tidbit to tuck away in your brain for later.

[-] Bwaz@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

A more important reminder to contractors: if Congress doen't fund the slparticular project, you WILL NOT be paid for your work or materials. Trump signing the contract doesn't make the federal government responsible for the cost and of course Donald won't pay it from his own pocket.

[-] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Absolutely. Just look at how Trump treated every contractor who ever did work for him on his buildings in New York. As soon as the work is done, sue, counter-sue, and never pay.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Sure sure, but he'll definitely pay me this time because my company is different. All those other guys were just incapable of doing the job right.

[-] subOrange@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago
[-] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Also, name and shame any contractors you see doing that work.

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 5 days ago

That's... About 4x longer away than 2 weeks, and it's been a decade since he said he'd have healthcare solved in 2 weeks, so In 40 years that arch might begin

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 25 points 5 days ago

Nah, the arch will start when he says it because it benefits him.

[-] Soulphite@reddthat.com 13 points 5 days ago

It took them one second to put his name up on John F. Kennedy Center after they illegally voted to do it.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago

I see Donvict is focused on the most important matters. Let's see:

Revenge against people like Boebert and Colorado in general (and in the process fucking with people's drinking water, because he's no leader at all but a spiteful little baby), writing the text for a set of plaques that go with pictures that are going to be torn down the minute he leaves office, putting his name on buildings he did nothing to contribute anything toward, tearing down the East wing and blathering on about some bullshit ballroom no one gave a fuck about before, and now a stupid arch.

Meanwhile, he and his idiots have done nearly everything possible to fuck up an economy that was the "envy of the world", and it only seems to be getting worse.

This guy is such a fucking idiot.

[-] Stern@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

I wonder if its two months actual time or two months Trump time, which actually means never (see also two weeks), given the white house abcess of a ballroom he could be serious but...

[-] clif@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I'm not sure if "abcess" was intentional ("abscess") or a typo ("absence") but either way... it works.

[-] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

With a bigly gold statue of Dear Leader on top, and "MAGA" carved in 6-foot letters.

[-] Sunflier@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

In 6-foot GOLD letters

[-] bytesonbike@discuss.online 11 points 4 days ago

Is the ballroom finished yet, or did he get bored?

[-] Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip 13 points 4 days ago

There is a concept of a ballroom.

[-] atropa@piefed.social 4 points 4 days ago

Yes rico ,kaboom🖕

[-] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

So we have a two month lead time to get ahead of this. Dems, what are you doing about it???

[-] underisk@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

They will strongly advise the president that what he’s doing is illegal and immoral and send you panicked fund raising emails about it. Oh, and text messages. Can’t forget those.

[-] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

I hope it’s the size of his model like the henge from Spinal Tap.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

🤣

No one knows who they were...or what they were doing.

...

Where the dew drops cry and the cats meow

I don't know how they were able to get these takes without laughing their asses off. I mean, rock has its share of excess and these song lyrics are so funny when they are mocking that, but FFS, when those guys start dancing around that model, it's too much. And then when the model moves, holy. It gets me every time.

I hope some little people get to tower over Donvict's "arch".

[-] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

His hands make it look so big

[-] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 2 points 4 days ago

Actual size*

[-] texture@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

just what americans need in this time /s

[-] Sunflier@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

We can't afford to eat and we don't have jobs, but at least he's getting an arch. /s with anger and resentment.

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

The only thing that surprises me about any of this is that he didn't name it "Trumphal Arch." I guess there's still time, though.

[-] Keilik@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

He let it slip that it’s the “arc du trump” a while ago so it’s probably just gonna be that. He did tha with the Kennedy center, and my money is that he’ll be renaming Reagan international airport as well.
