Osman said armed ICE agents went to East African restaurants in the neighborhood Tuesday, closed the doors and demanded people's IDs. They found only U.S. citizens and made no arrests, Osman said.

In short, they're harassing people based on what kind of cuisine they have a hankering for

People are prepared to send angry letters, mean tweets, and even.... I've no idea what the term would be on lemmy...

[-] DaMummy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Really? Nobody's gonna inform me? Surely there's a term for it. Help a lemmy noob out.

[-] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

Shits. They’re worth the same as giggles.

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I understand the downvotes, but also: where are the consequences?

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 6 points 2 months ago

There are none.

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Sadly, they want us to respond with violence. That would enable them to truly bring down an iron fist of racist hate and murder in the name of state security

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 6 points 2 months ago

Keep telling yourself that as they drag people away to the camps never to be seen again.

"Chemical Irritant" - I'm guessing CS or tear gas. Scanned the article and didn't see it specified. Strange way to state things.

Note that use of CS and similar are banned under the Geneva Convention between armies. Used against civilians all the time by many governments.

trying to downplay the severity of the method used to " attack protests"

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

TIL: CS gas was invented after the Geneva Conventions that preempted its use in war.

Britain & Japan also helped justify its use in the US in 2002:

As recently as 2002, the U.S. State Department Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation made a firm distinction between "riot-control agents" such as CS gas, and "lethal chemical weapons." The Bureau cited support for this position from the U.K. and Japan.[10]

Wait what happened to the 4th amendment?

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Constitution? What's that?

[-] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Oh it's this piece of paper that everyone talks about when we talk about guns and speech but apparently only the first two matter.

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago

Laws and the constitution are interpreted by the rich. Ain't rich - tough.

With respect to immigration it was suspended decades ago, unfortunately. Courts have long ruled our rights are subject to revocation as soon as the government has a "compelling interest." Which, apparently, this legalized ethnic cleansing is considered.

[-] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Damn you, patriot act!

[-] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

What's that movie? Inglorious bastards?

In a German accent: "now you wouldn't be hiding any.... ~~jews~~ colored immigrants now would you..?"

[-] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

MAGAts plans are being ruined because nobody is taking the bait and becoming violent.

They just have to keep upping their level of violence.

They are desperate to cancel the 2026 midterm elections.

[-] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 9 points 2 months ago

What are their names and badge numbers?

Otherwise they are just dangerous criminals impersonating law enforcement and people have the right to defend themselves with force.

What a crappy headline. News outlets are taking quite the enablist role of late.
