This will only end badly. And I mean racist Goofy meme videos targeted to children badly.

Can't wait to see Lego Yoda: A Ketamine Story

Sora can now make the Frozen/Spiderman content that has been missing

[-] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 5 points 8 months ago

Maybe they can pick up a few good ideas from what people prompt. Their own writers aren't producing much noteworthy.

Oh, so the slop generator gets to use Disney's characters, but they'll sue a daycare for painting Mickey Mouse on the wall. I see how it is.

[-] wolframhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 17 points 8 months ago

The mouse doesn't expect you to like it. The mouse expects you to endure it.

[-] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 110 points 8 months ago

Say what you want about Altman, he is a fantastic grifter. Instead of suing the shit out of his worthless hypebag bullshit machine “company”, they’re… paying… him… to license their characters…? These corporations have lost their goddamn minds for this snake oil

[-] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 22 points 8 months ago

Disney needs to write off a billion asap. That's literally all I see. Invest in AI? You already lost money and you need a voided check.

At this point I genuinely believe OpenAI knows they're doomed. They are putting all their effort into these massive deals, trying to tie themselves to as many other companies as they can until they are "too big to fail". Then when they go bankrupt, trump won't allow the stock market to crash, so the government will step in and pay everyone out. Maybe these other companies are just trying to get in on the grift while they can.

[-] mvirts@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

I have read 0 facts about this, but I bet that the billion 'investment' is mostly just IP license values.

[-] emerald 56 points 8 months ago

Given Walt's own relationship with his animators this is actually very on brand

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world 42 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

They might change their tune once the slop video generators are pumping out officially licensed scenes of Elsa getting gang banged.

[-] KelvarCherry 25 points 8 months ago

Elsa and Spiderman pregante

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Both of them preganate by each other

[-] 474D@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

Uh, I have bad news for you lol

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

In my day Snow White railed by the gnomes was animated by hand and passed around on VHS.

[-] LiveLM@lemmy.zip 33 points 8 months ago

Disney is perhaps the one company on earth powerful enough to put AI companies on their place regarding all the copyright shit.
How fucking naive of me to not realize they'd join up instead

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 32 points 8 months ago

"its characters" bitch half of your characters are just ripped off from fairy tales

[-] mtpender@sh.itjust.works 11 points 8 months ago

And the other half were just bought by them rather than their own creations.

[-] MisterCurtis@lemmy.world 30 points 8 months ago

Just executives milking their company for as much money as they can. They don't care for their brand. If it makes them money, they'll totally let Disney slide into an AI content slop hell scape. Ruining the reputation and quality of their product, then bounce with their severance and bonuses when stocks start to fall. Just to go off and do it all over again with another company.

[-] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 12 points 8 months ago

What I don't get is how are they even milking their IP? They are paying OpenAi to use their IP (in exchange for equity in an unprofitable company).

I'd understand it better if Disney were getting a billion dollars.

Now your kids can make their own completely unregulated Spider-Man and Elsa content at home

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 22 points 8 months ago

Why spend money advertising your old mouse when the kids will do it for you?

OPENAI, is seeking some poor sucker to hold the bag before the bubble burst. disney will regret it.

[-] jlow@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 8 months ago

I love how this should be the other way round (the slop company paying the content "owners") but thanks to turbo capitalism the world get's fucked up in new disgusting ways every day!

[-] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 19 points 8 months ago

all of disney+ catalog can be found on the high seas :)

[-] laranis@lemmy.zip 18 points 8 months ago

This is how the bubble floats a little longer.

[-] Gork@sopuli.xyz 14 points 8 months ago

Conveniently, the AI models are probably already trained on Disney characters to begin with. Definitely a cash grab though.

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 14 points 8 months ago

Well someone is getting nervous about Marvel’s future

[-] SantasMagicalComfort@piefed.world 14 points 8 months ago

I wonder if they're going to have special rules what you can and can't do with them.

[-] KelvarCherry 13 points 8 months ago

I eagerly await the Zootopia output.

all monopolies should be split into different smaller companies which would then be given to the workers who would collectivize them. seriously!

[-] TimboSlice@discuss.online 11 points 8 months ago
[-] Baguette 10 points 8 months ago

So now does this mean you can just say it was ai generated and you can't get sued by disney /s

Rule 34 anybody?

[-] someguy3@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

All of its lot? $1 billion is nothing.

[-] Dentzy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 8 months ago

But allowing use of their IPs for sora it is big..

[-] someguy3@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

You can bet there's stipulations out the ass with that. The goal is probably to basically just to keep characters in the public eye.

God, I didn't think i could want OpenAI to crash even more than I already did!

How long before someone tricks SORA into some Disney themed Rule 34?

[-] DylanMc6@lemmy.ml 7 points 8 months ago

we need another animator's strike- nay, a general workers' strike at disney. seriously!

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 6 points 8 months ago

I'm still very AI ignorant but why would disney go all in on AI when I can just tell my own AI to make up a "disney-like" movie for me and skip the middle-man (disney).

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 8 points 8 months ago

They have more lawyers than you

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 6 points 8 months ago

They know that everyone will use AI to remix all their products into lucrative viral content. Just look at all the AI slop that so many channels on YouTube where they just recreate Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, actors into all kinds of videos, remixes and music.

I think Disney sees all this and they'll jump ahead and remix everything with AI with all the products they own.

Expect to see Star Wars Episode XX starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing

Or Star Trek XXX starring the entire original cast for the 60s

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago

Turns out, PieFed just shits the bed with link posts that also have images attached and removes any links that might be there originally.
