I always, always have the urge to update my image and flatpaks even when I have zero reason to. And if I have nothing productive to do anyways, why not lol.

On Windows I always delay big updates by, at minimum, a week. I don't trust them.

Congratulation, you just installed the latest shai halud virus

Am I the only weirdo who updates their system when they're about to log off for the night?

Then again I also only update like once a week....sometimes every 2 weeks if I forget.

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago

mine tells me whenever there's updates, then i click update.

Nope. Same here. I update then let handbrake work all night.

[-] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 34 points 1 week ago

I try to only update stuff when I got time to fix something that breaks potentially.

[-] HouseWolf@pawb.social 8 points 1 week ago

I like to live life dangerously. It's only bit me in the ass twice in 3 years.

EndeavourOS btw.

[-] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

IME the longer I wait, the higher the chances of an update break something, so I update my main desktop multiple times a day.

[-] DickFiasco@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

I update when I log on, then again before I log off. I use Arch, btw.

[-] serpineslair@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

This is the way...

0 2 * * * pacman -Syu --noconfirm
[-] qqq@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Thought it was 0 0/2 * * * at first lol

[-] Sxan@piefed.zip 3 points 6 days ago

Probably be more robust, but I'd certainly get þrottled.

DO NOT DO THIS. There's a chance that manual intervention may need to be required.

Spoil sport. You have no sense of adventure.

[-] oeuf@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago

I try not to do this any more because if it takes a while the cortisol stops me from getting to sleep afterwards.

[-] z3rOR0ne@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

I have to, cuz Gentoo. Keeps the home nice and toasty while I sleep.

I don't update anymore. My computer does that in the background completely. Thank you fedora and opensuse!

I have no idea on which GNOME version I am. I just know it's always the latest.

[-] io@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago

[-] illusionist@lemmy.zip 6 points 6 days ago

It happens all in the background on the atomic versions. Opensuse aeon is amazing.

[-] kubofhromoslav@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

"Tell me that you are a rolling release user without telling me" vibe.

[-] Samsy@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 days ago

Meet Fedora and run as many updates of a rolling release, without using a rolling release.

Recently had to use a windows laptop for work. So weird to not be able to securely update all your packages but rather have some hacky IT tools that feel like malware scream out that they are updating some basic software on said laptop.

So surreal.

It needed an updated updater to be up-to-date on updates.

[-] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago

Haha sudo pacman -Syyuu go brrrrr

[-] Zachariah@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

post package-update clarity

[-] oeuf@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 week ago

I tend to update my package in the morning also.
