What's gotten out of control is you posting a screenshot of a headline. It shows you don't read.

Which is just as embarrassing as using AI

maybe this is more symptomatic. i have been through the academic wringer and have worked with ai technology in a professional way. from experience: ai is good at doing things, which have been done thousands of times (how else would it have learned it). and it can save you some time doing stupid tasks.

look at this the other way around: if ai is good at writing scientific papers, it has been done thousands of times and is unimaginative. this covers with much of my experience in academia.

i am not saying, that there are no scientific discoveries to be made anymore. quite the opposite. but i do believe that we overload students with stupid tasks and stress them beyond reason.

academia is very important. but as institutions of learning, discovery and preserving knowledge. over the years it has accumulated a lot of dead weight.

what is the source of this image? looks like there should be an article associated

OP's brain is so rotten and destroyed, they don't know how to link to articles.

They think that posting an image of a headline is "reading". Similar to folks who think typing a prompt into AI is "writing"

tbf they wete already becoming useless, this just accelerated things.

schools have built themselves around around ratfucking public funds (via blank check loans to highschoolers, essentially), just like every other major industry in the US it seems

Well that's because the government doesn't want to fund them.

Well if you are educated and you have kids then please be sure they get a good education because the opportunities for real educated people are gonna be limitless.

Unfortunately job applications have been screening resumes with AI for decades.

And AI can't tell the difference between educated folks and not, so you're fucked.

In what jobs, exactly?

The jobs that require actual skills and talent have never been compensated well, and the fluff executive jobs are reserved for Nepo babies and people with connections.

The only thing real education is going to be good for in the near future is increasing your knowledge and anxiety about how screwed everything is.

Many of my classmates used chatgpt to write their code during the final exam.

[-] cy_narrator@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 18 hours ago

You were allowed to use computers/phones during exams? Thats new

Our boys used hidden phones to access chatgpt for code though

Every time I see another AI headline, the Gamers Nexus "AI" video starts playing in my head.

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
