NEW YORK (AP) — Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. personally directed the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to update its website to contradict its longtime guidance that vaccines don’t cause autism, he told The New York Times in an interview published Friday.

His comments provide clarity into who directed the CDC’s website change, after many current and former staffers at the agency were surprised to see new published guidance on Wednesday that defies scientific consensus. Kennedy, a longtime vaccine critic, has upended the public health agencies he oversees and pushed for and enacted changes that have unsettled much of the medical community, which sees his policies as harmful for Americans.

“The whole thing about ‘vaccines have been tested and there’s been this determination made,’ is just a lie,” Kennedy said in the interview, which was conducted Thursday.

The CDC’s “vaccine safety” page now claims that the statement “vaccines do not cause autism” is not based on evidence because it doesn’t rule out the possibility that infant vaccines are linked to the disorder. The page also has been updated to suggest that health officials have ignored studies showing a potential link.

Oh good. Forget the brilliant folks doing their best to watch out for humanity using the accumulated knowledge of what we've learned, Bobby's going to wing it.

It starts with the one at the top, who won't hire anyone smarter than he is because he's always wants to feel like he's the smartest person in the room. Really tells you something about all the MAGAts who voted for him because they think he's rich due to being so smart

Isolated, even exalted, by his wealth and power; so thoroughly so that he has become inhibited by his own lack of inhibition. Being a Kennedy, he probably has never had to deal with hearing the word 'no' outside of his childhood. Not in any way that has actually affected his life, at least.

It would almost be sad to be so divorced from reality if it didn't mean his ignorance and incompetence were going to be ruining, destroying, and even ending all these less privileged lives.

Of all of them, it is so fucked that Rosemary was the one they forced into lobotomy. Not saying thats what should be done to rfk tbc, as I think it's a brutal and disgusting overstepping of boundaries in just about any context, but it is also very telling that madness like his was left to fester while a young woman is almost literally cut out of herself for simply being too lively and earnest. For wanting to be like a real person with real feelings and interests instead of....whatever this man is.

Disgusting and infinitely shameful display. Both the individual and the unrightfuly esteemed brood that spawned him. It all illustrates what could be easily read as a genuine hatred for our species. Power over all else.

Thinking about this family and the outsized power they wield is just such a frustrating and distressing affair. Sorry for the rant, all.

God damn, I forgot about Rosemary. Not all Kennedys are evil as fuck, but that's one fucking evil family

"I am also having my office produce an 'I did that' sticker for myself by way of totally driving the point home, in case anyone has any doubts."

No, it's all shit. Bullshit.

I'm beginning to think that the USA is in real trouble

[-] pfc_hudson@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

To reiterate, no shit!

It began when he came down the escalator.

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago

If that guy could win a presidential election, the trouble began much earlier.

It did, with Gwen Stefani on The Voice.

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

beginning??

have you been in a coma the last nine years?

[-] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

I mean in a more immediate and in-the-face way

You know how things die slowly, then all at once?

[-] IronBird@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

it's definitely collapsing, been going on for awhile too.

ICE dissappearing people...saw that happen to some random kid on the streets of boston at the exact same time as the yuppies were doing their much publicized No Kings marches. (i imagine the powers that be in these cities are basically greenlighting ICE to go ham, long as they stay out of the richest neighborhoods).

because everyones just kind of coping on this idea that everything will return to normal (normal here being completely unsustainable ratfucking) when trump dies...personally i dont see it.

these motherfuckers said themselves they won't be removed peacefully.

and while i briefly entertained the idea of helping the good guys...tbh, to me it doesn't look like the US wants to be saved, and as anyone who has experience extending their help to strangers can tell you...you can't help someone who doesn't even think they have a problem.

Nine? This goes back to Nixon era!

[-] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Well, that it took you this long to figure that out seems an apt demonstration of why we're here.

EDIT: Geez - you guys can't tell when someone's going along with the joke, can you?

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 37 points 1 day ago

Really? Here I thought it came from the scientists, not the insane guy put in charge

[-] AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social 27 points 1 day ago

The CDC’s “vaccine safety” page now claims that the statement “vaccines do not cause autism” is not based on evidence because it doesn’t rule out the possibility that infant vaccines are linked to the disorder.

This dumbfuck doesn't understand that science can't fully rule anything out. That's why science continues to evolve, and things we once thought were true change over time as we get more evidence.

Science explains what we see in the world, it doesn't magically explain every possible outcome of every possible thing we look at.

No shit you can't "rule out the possibility", because you can't have an omnipotent view of every possible way every chemical reaction occurs ever between any infant and any vaccine.

What we can do, is look at how vaccines and autism rates are correlated, engage in numerous studies, and find out that there is no observable causal link between the two, or even a statistically significant correlation. That is the closest we can possibly get to "ruling it out."

You wanna know what there is an observable causal link for? Viruses killing people that would otherwise not have gotten sick from the virus had they gotten the vaccine.

Jfc we are so cooked as a nation.

Don't lie rfk. We know the worms in control.

[-] Bloefz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Well yeah, obviously. It clearly didn't come from anyone with any medical knowledge.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

This is the way, back in 2002 I realized Dr Phil was full of shit. He would bring on 5 or 6 fat women, and do a show on losing weight.

They're taking weight loss advice from 350lbs Dr Phil.

[-] DarkSideOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Hoping American voters change this with next midterms. It’s up in o every American voter.

[-] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Depends on whether a distraction will encourage them to sit it out.

Again.

[-] tal@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Unless he commits a crime, RFK serves as long as Trump is in office and wants him there.

Trump won't be removed in the midterms. He's in until 2028 (well, early 2029).

You might

probably will

get Democrats taking the House and being able to launch investigations into some Trump administration stuff after the midterms. But they can't remove RFK.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 18 hours ago

Technically there are no legal ways to remove him. Plenty of ways he could be removed via illegal means, or through him being stupid wouldn't put it passed him eating roadkill and dieing of the black death.

[-] etherphon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Why don't you direct your person right in front of a bus. Don't look at Dr. Oz behind the curtain who knows deep down it's most likely from an increasingly toxic environment full of chemicals but is too entranced by the grift.
