Anyone who buys call of duty these days deserve all the abuse they get.

In fact, that goes for most games.

[-] regdog@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

Wow, this is terrible.

Just as I expected it to be!

[-] GaryGhost@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

I was so mad when call of duty 3 wasn't released for the PC. Modern warfare was sick though, last cod in my collection. I heard battlefield is ruined too, maybe someone else can tell me why.

[-] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago

That wasnt a thing since 2015

[-] Pure_Psykosis@lemmy.ca 111 points 1 week ago

I dont know what else to say but LOL

[-] Kronusdark@lemmy.world 74 points 1 week ago

People need to stop buying games that are so blatantly anti-consumer.

[-] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No one cares about playing CoD for campaign anymore lol. The multiplayer this time isn't a fucking nightmare of being aimbotted by idiots with no thumbs on controller and an extreme manipulative matchmaking that gives you three games against kids with cerebral palsy and then five games of nothing but omegasweats using meta weapons.

Meanwhile, Arc Raiders has AI voice acting and BF6 has the worst hit detection I've ever seen in an FPS. People really think they can compete with CoD and then proceed to fumble the ball every time, and those are ALSO anti-consumer practices.

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 31 points 1 week ago

then why put in the extra work and servers for singleplayer to be online?

[-] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago

I do...and many others do too if the game itself wasn't such a pile of shit forcing you online because 'its where the fun is'.. I love campaigns in shooters. online play is trash unless I can play with ONLY my friends. it's one of the main reasons I stopped paying for the garbage that they keep producing and don't consider these companies at entertainment more then I would scraping dog shit off my shoes

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

You should probably stop giving money to them then. Stop buying Call of Duty games. You're just funding anti-consumer practices.

[-] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 days ago

lol, I don't. I won't even pirate AAA games (I always buy if I enjoy them). not worth the time because they aren't fun.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Oh... well then why were you saying you were playing the Call of Duty campaign?

[-] 0x0@infosec.pub 7 points 6 days ago

You need better reading comprehension than that before trying an aha gotcha- like that.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

They didn’t say that. Just that they love campaigns in shooters.

[-] VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

You don't need to own the game to try it when you have friends.

[-] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Just play a singleplayer FPS then? That isn't CoD's niche anymore my dude.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

Why did they spend time making a single player part of the game?

[-] LadyMeow 13 points 1 week ago

Apologize harder for anti consumer practices, challenge mode: nightmare

I don't think there are any single player military shooters anymore... at least not that come to mind. I think COD drove them all out of business... Phase 1 of Enshittification.

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There are many single player scenarios for arma. On top of the ones that are in the game.

It's still a decent game.

Who is this even for? Do people enjoy this?

[-] etherphon@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

It's so puzzling, you can have any world you want in a video game, absolutely fantastical places to explore and take your mind off things and be intuitive and solve puzzles, there is way too much violence in the world already, I really will never get it.

[-] Truscape 24 points 1 week ago

I wonder what would be the mental capacity range if we sampled the group of people who buy FIFA, COD, and Forza every year.

[-] decipher_jeanne 3 points 5 days ago

I wish they were releasing a Forza every years.

They made motorsport 7 waited over 5 year, gave us Motorsport (2023). And it's... Shit.

The Formula 1 game are a much better analogy. They are always the same thing. Release every year. And somehow make stuff worse every other release

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago

I stopped playing COD games like 57 titles ago.

[-] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago

Modem warfare 3 was the last COD game I played and I thought it was mid.

The original modern warfare was peak COD imo (MW2 was also very good)

[-] zaki_ft@lemmings.world 1 points 5 days ago

Yeah, I'd say WaW/MW2/Black Ops were the last good CODs.

[-] Gorgeous_Sloth@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago

That should be 3 months ago then

[-] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 week ago

Reason that the Stop Killing Games initiative is important number... What are we on now?

[-] rem26_art@fedia.io 16 points 1 week ago

Single player mode? Noooo, you always have Activision by your side. Watching.

[-] nucleative@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

A full width split screen zombies mode, and a full lobby of people who want to play Kino Der Toten are pretty much the only thing that would interest me in another COD BLOPS title.

I just can't imagine who these titles are for now. I appreciate they're trying to make the graphics and sound amazing, but these online experiences, as imagined by the developers, have taken away more than they've given.

The last modern warfare title I bought was MW2, that bizarro named one. I opened it a few weeks ago and the whole game has become a loader to other COD games and its multiplayer lobbies are empty. So stupid and I wish I could get a refund.

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

when you specify "full width split screen zombies mode", I'm confused — do the newer games not have split screen for zombies? I thought they carried zombies through all the new games because it was so popular

I haven't played since black ops 2, where I quickly dropped it. only played MW2 and black ops one before that.

[-] nucleative@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

I'm not so sure about the latest versions, if they made local split screen better.

Black Ops 3 has the Kino der Toten map split screen but it doesn't run full width. I'm pretty sure the same map on Black Ops 1 did run full width.

My favorite moments with these games were always playing locally, and having that keeps the game playable for as long as you own it and a working console.

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

yep, my favourite COD memories (almost the only, really) are MW2 with buddies, and lapping kino to high levels on split screen

I'm still not understanding, and I think this is just because what you're describing is a really stupid thing, but are you actually saying that the local split screen is like a square aspect ratio or something?

[-] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

When you say "it doesn't run full width", what do you mean? I'm not following either 😅 do you mean the split screen is vertical (i.e. side-by-side) rather than horizontal (i.e. one on top of the other)?

[-] nucleative@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Here's an example of the split screen not running at full width on Black Ops 3

https://youtu.be/FcNHlqup4tM

And here's how it used to look on Black Ops 1: https://youtu.be/lnF2W-e7e8Q

[-] dan1101@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

That's weird. Maybe it's a performance issue, they squeeze a few more FPS with narrower views.

[-] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

Oh, that's strange! And you're saying that this happens only on this map? The not-full-width thing, I mean?

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago

Oh boy I also hope this comes with the login queue battle royale mechanic (video) as well. Couldn't call it a modern AAAA experience without one.

[-] Truscape 8 points 1 week ago

"Wake up honey, assassin's creed 2 DRM came back in 2025!"

[-] Mk23simp 6 points 1 week ago

What is the reason for this? Laziness?

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 22 points 1 week ago

There is no singleplayer. The campaign is co-op. If you're soloing the campaign, you're still playing online.

[-] Mk23simp 11 points 1 week ago

That makes more sense. I can see how it simplifies things. It still seems like a decision that is lazy and disregards the players.

[-] Paradachshund@lemmy.today 6 points 6 days ago

It's hard to overstate how insanely fast these games get made. I have no doubt that the project managers have to cut any corner they can to meet the release schedule. Don't take this as a defense of the result, but rather a criticism of the treadmill dev cycle for these games.

Nah, this took extra effort to implement.
