The discomfort I feel at the thought of sleeping on a bare matress ensures that I will put the sheet on. Of course, only just before going to sleep when I want to do nothing more but flop onto my bed after staying up too long again

[-] BanMe@lemmy.world 26 points 5 days ago

Nothing I love more than coming upstairs after my day of chores, exhausted, to find a ball of sheets on my bed. THANKS earlier me.

[-] Termiboros@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 5 days ago

And earlier me is like "have fun, future me who will be very unhappy about this :D"

This found me at a very bare mattress time of my life

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 26 points 5 days ago

Or...now hear me out...get a 2nd set of sheets. Straight swap. One on...one off. Then you can forget about the "off" set, until it's time to change the sheets again.

[-] Sadbutdru@sopuli.xyz 17 points 5 days ago

I was already assuming they did have a second set. Taking off the dirty ones and putting on the clean ones is bloody well hard enough. Are people out there really trying to turn around a single set in a day? That's just setting yourself up to fail, I don't care how neurotypical you think you are.

[-] Rusty@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago

Wait, there are people who only one set of sheets? To me it sounds like having one set of clothes

[-] sexy_peach@feddit.org 5 points 4 days ago

I have seen this before it's US americans, they all have dryers and can wash and dry in the same day.

I would never, I have sheet that are cozier for winter etc, also I dry on a clothesline

[-] Rusty@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

I also have a dryer, but I have like 3 or 4 sets of sheets. They don't have to buy the fancy ones, just buy the $30 set from IKEA.

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

It's more like having only one pair of shoes. There isn't usually a compelling reason to change them frequently, so you only need one.

[-] cdf12345@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 days ago

I now have dirty sheets and damp sheets that have been in the dryer for a week.

What now?

[-] InnerScientist@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Buy two more sheets and try again, repeat until desired results are achieved or death.

[-] cdf12345@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

My washer is full, and I can’t put the 5 or 6th sheet set into it. Please advise

[-] InnerScientist@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Buy an additional one.

After you have enough you can also double it all and pass it to your kids.

[-] Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Oh that IS what she meant? she really has only one set of sheets? I was having trouble working out how this was ever a problem for her.

[-] bhamlin@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Instructions unclear; all bedsheets are now dirty and I've been sleeping on a bare ass mattress for a month.

[-] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I caught this, too. If I forget about them until the next set is dirty...

[-] thoughtfuldragon 31 points 5 days ago

have two sheets, put the new one on right after taking the old one off. put the old one in the laundry pile and wash it with your clothes.

[-] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 days ago

Then I'd have to learn the black magic that is folding a fitted sheet AND actually fold them every time I change my bed/wash the old set.

Can't just leave clean laundry in a pile either... That's just going to bother me; are they clean or not? If it's clean, it's gotta be put away neatly, but It's gonna have to stay in the dryer until I work up that kind of courage.

Nope, just gonna fight myself to put them back on the bed once they're clean...

[-] harissa@eviltoast.org 12 points 5 days ago

For the fitted sheet, what I do is roll it up instead of folding, then shove it inside the matching pillowcase. When it's time to change sheets it makes it super easy to grab and have the whole fresh set, no fussing around.

Now, actually putting them ON the bed? Still can be a struggle lol

You need a backup too in case of spills and so you're not at the mercy of executive dysfunction when it comes time to replace one of them.

Yup, except wash them separate so you can use warm water and not ruin cloths. Unless you're lucky enough to have durable cloths from 10 years ago. And wash them right away, or you'll end up in the no-sheet situation anyway.

Emphatically wrong! Sleeping on a bare mattress is crazy. I just use the couch like I do many nights anyway.

[-] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Put the old sheet in the doorway. Now you can't leave the room until you are done because the doorway is blocked.

JRPG rules FTW!

[-] Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago

I did the sheets and have been able to leave my house, thanks, but now I can't leave my town because there's a single small shrub blocking the only path. Any ideas?

[-] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

You need to progress the global warming subplot so that the shrub will wither and you can pass.

See if there's a quest involving the river and a boat.

[-] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 days ago

I tell my spouse I can change the sheets in seconds, and pre-swap the sheets to accomplish it. This makes it a “fun” thing, that my brain is more than happy to focus on because it’s “fun”. It also happens with just the right frequency that it doesn’t become boring.

However, if my spouse ever found out the trick (or told me they did) the magic would be lost.

[-] Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago

I don't really get what you mean by preswapping, like you changed the sheets on a spare duvet and just swapped out the entire duvet, but then what about the sheets on the mattress? Or do you just mean you do the entire task of changing the bedsheets unobserved and then tell your wife you're about to change them and announce that you've finished a few seconds later?

[-] dogdeanafternoon@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

Alright that’s fucking hilarious

[-] MehBlah@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

I have two sets of sheets. Adapt and overcome.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 5 days ago

Three. One to put on. One to have at the ready. One to wash.

[-] Wfh@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Oh you mean one already on, one to wash, one to wash?

And the overwhelming urge to take a nap before the dryer is done rocking.

I eventually got a second bed set just to help me out on that front

But unfortunately they've got a different thread count so they have a different skin feel then the old ones so I absolutely can't mix the sheets with the other ones because the difference is too jarring

[-] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

This is why we have two sets and I have a day just for doing the sheets. Sheets off, pillows off, into washing machine, grab the clean sheets from the pile. Sheets do not get folded, that's a nightmare. There's just a pile of clean clothes. And the sheets. There's also like fifty pillow covers they just accumulated somehow.

Thank you for seeing me.

I find it best to do it as a side-to-do from the main one to minimise the chance of even getting focused on it (the tricky part of that is being ok/not get discouraged with letting the sheets sit in the washer or dryer for hours bcs now the process is inefficient & I can do better, I mean I obviously can't, but theoretically).

I also have a few extra beddings to "just change the sheets" or even just to focus my mind on different materials. It helps sometimes.

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

Have two beds. Clean and remake one when sleeping on the other. Don't switch until other one is clean.

[-] meco03211@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

This is how I end up with one dirty bed I sleep on and one bed buried under clothes (clean it dirty) and other things.

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

I've been sleeping on a blanket for a while now, come to think of it...

[-] Olap@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Must be American. Most the world air dries their sheets and hence has a second set

[-] Nemo@slrpnk.net 12 points 5 days ago

I have four sets. It's always a gamble if any are clean, and even if they are, whether I can find them.

[-] danekrae@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

I have at least two new unused sheets, but I have no clue where they're at.

[-] ebolapie@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I'm going to do it but only because I want to and not because you called me out
