Take away pizza from big chains are all absolute rip offs. £20 for a large pizza with inferior dough and toppings? If I can be bothered to make the dough myself then it would cost about ~£2 to make at home with fresh ingredients.

For me it's pretty simple why I don't go there.

A Pizza Hut large pizza, sans discounts, begins at £23/£27. And it tastes likes ass, while also in the past ~2 years the amount of cheese and toppings was reduced by half, at least.

Meanwhile, the little "greasy spoon" pizza place that delivers within 15 minutes, for the same price, will do a family meal deal of 2 large pizzas (with tons of toppings and proper amount of cheese!), a large garlic pizza bread, an extra side and a 2L drink.

Oh and the latter pizza tastes awesome, is delivered with care (by their own drivers, not an UberEats fuckwit who'll toss the pizza in his backpack vertically), and the place regularly tossed in a little extra for frequent orders, like an extra dessert...

Yep. 6 slice freshly made cheese and tomato pizza with delivery for £12 once a week is something I can live by.

Dominoes/Pizza Hut takes the piss

Shit pizza for shit prices with shit service.

Chris, 36, and Joanne, 29 say they used to go to Pizza Hut for a date "every now and then", but now they order in a Domino's and think Pizza Hut is "very overpriced".

Unless things have very seriously changed in the last year or two, that sounds like bullshit. Domino's is crazy expensive. Pizza Hut is just "kinda expensive".

It's either bullshit or this couple are clowns. Going from one shitty restaurant chain to the next for date night? Lol. Nice try dominoes.

If any couple would seriously do that, they would be intentionally aiming for true dogshit dignity.

[-] FarceOfWill@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago

You have to use special deals for dominos. Its competitive then. They have standard ones on all the time.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Yeah say what you want about Domino's but they usually do have much better coupons than their competitors.

[-] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

I've never had a Domino's pizza and never will - they're spending so much on TV adverts their food is probably shit.

[-] clif@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It's a "deal" they always have, if you find it on their site, but any large 2 topping pizza for $9 doesn't seem bad... As many as you want.

It was a decade ago but I remember about most of the time when my parents order at Pizza Hut, they keep getting the order wrong. Think that's main reason why when ordering a takeaway, we usually tend to order a Chinese as one we tend to order barely get the order wrong, unlike Pizza Hut.

Did someone finally outpizza it?

[-] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

Could also very well be a standard case of capitalist-driven enshittification, either in-house or via private equity buyout.

[-] JamieDub86@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago

Not that great pizza, terrible service, in a competitive market where prices are increasing. If they'd dealt with the first two things they might have had more of a chance.

[-] TheAlbatross 5 points 2 days ago

It tastes like ass and has a texture unlike any pizza and more akin to a fried sponge?

[-] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

Marco's Pizza became a thing.

This is a BBC article about Pizza Hut in the UK, posted on the unitedkingdom community.

A smaller pizza chain in the US. I’ve never tried their pizza.

[-] JamieDub86@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

Do they deliver to Hull? I'll give it a go if they do.

[-] nocturne@piefed.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Looks like it is an almost 4 hour drive to the nearest one to me.

[-] magnetosphere@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

“Drive”? A trip like that is a quest.

[-] nocturne@piefed.ee 2 points 1 day ago

When you live in the Southwest US you are used to drives like that. 7 hours to Denver for an Iron Maiden show? Yes. 5 hours to Tucson for a Doyle concert? Done that. 6 hours to Phoenix for Alestorm? Yes, that too.

[-] JamieDub86@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

Wouldn't even know what that is...
