I have setup in my bedroom of a TV which eventually I want to get newer TV as one I have is old and also want to watch 4K movies as well as my TV is so old (made somewhere in early 2010s) that most streaming services won't work or if it does, it is sluggish. I heard OSSC Pro output 4K resolution as well as RetroTINK-4X CE which I want to use when I play on my PS2 & Gamecube. I wasn't sure if OSSC Pro still has issue with resolution chance where (especially in PS1 Games), the TV would take few seconds to change resolution instead of just load menu screen or game seamlessly

Before anyone suggest "get a CRT", I don't have room for it and that's even counting the CRT with VHS/DVD bundled in to it. Also, I live in shared household which my family doesn't care for CRT so if I want it, it has to be in my bedroom which is tiny and barely much free space. Maybe when I rent a flat, I might think about CRT but not right now. At least then, I have bit more freedom of the space where I put it and not feel too claustrophobic for me.

I hadn't tried them as I'm more type person to store stuff on my USB hard-druve (Not ideal but it's doable) but I have seem people on subbredit called something like r/KodiAddons (and also there's a community of it in Lemmy but seems dead) use some repo that has plugins to allow you to view pirated shows and films.

So in theory, yes you can as long as there's some video plugin to allow to do so but it just finding the repo that's legit. Sorry I can't help you as much but hope it better than no answer at all

Trigger Warning - Sexual Abuse

I was a year ago back when I have my first ever proper relationship. At first, I genuinely did love them and even confess having crush on them and just started out as friend with benefits, then later on decided to be boyfriends.

Eventually, I just felt it becomes kinda one-sided as they don't respect my boundaries, including when we are doing kink play like strangling me but when I want it to stop, (I tap them multiple times as that what both of us agree for it as 'Safe Action') they don't for me as they want to "push my limit." I often had to get their hands off my neck.

Naively, I thought they are just forgetful and I had to try remind them, which (unsurprisingly, looking back at it) didn't work. Somehow, I still love them despite feeling exhausted to be around them and that outside being sexually assaulted but I feel bad to leave them, mainly as I like to think of myself as a cheerleader of trying to make people close to me happy. They have been hatecrimed for being trans in both real life and on Twitter (and yes, I did tried to tell them to limit or even get off it which they refused to do).

I hate what they did to me where I feel scared of experimenting my sexuality and dating in general. It bugs me that I somehow attach douchebags which makes me feel there's something wrong with me but don't understand what have I done to deserve that sort of crowd.

I have heard it does but it was generally just an example of "Try this software but note it may not have this feature if this means lot to you" and suggest others like maybe Krita then?

  • Linux isn't Windows. I know that is a no-brainer but it needs to be said so it won't be as 1:1 to Windows.
  • How to install software both in terminal and as well as software manger GUI. Bonus points about compiling software from places like GitHub.
  • Packages type and their pros and cons
  • Trying to run Windows application via Wine (or some manager like Bottles or Lutris) as well as comparing running same Windows Application from Linux and Windows.
  • Alteratives to popular software and list out what it can do and what it doesn't have so user can see if that feature it doesn't have would affect them. For example, GIMP doesn't have full CMYK support which for most users, it isn't a big idea but for people that want to edit images to be ready for printing, they might want to keep that in mind.

It's been a few days and that was just going somewhere with my family as my Mum is looking for old magazine for inspiration for sewing. She thought it be better than just trying do out a pin board on Pinterest as she felt she needs to know what she is roughly looking for in the first place compared just flipping through the magazines.

But just want to say as someone that also suffer with depression, I do feel you that it is difficult to leave the house. I find for me, trying find clubs or activities neary area did help a bit of getting me outside a little bit.

My experience is that is has issue with FMV which think I had to tinker with WINE (which I don't exactly know how to do it in best way).

I just used PS1 version to play OG RE1

This is just a compromise that still allows people who used Generated-AI to make money without putting any effort. Mildly related but I hate how people praise Gabe doing this to Steam which is just a half-ass solution, at the very least just blacklist games that has been reported to used Generated-AI to hold game studio accountable.

When I have read anything Android phone related on Lemmy, I often see comments talking about how they switch to Linux phone or tell people to swap Android with Linux ASAP.

What's the general experience like using Linux as your phone and is it any good? I remember watching video couple years about it and hearing about it and the lack of apps (at least that is made for mobile in mind) and wonder if that has changed or is it just good enough.

I'm currently using GrapheneOS on my Pixel phone I brought secondhand so think I should (for now) be okay?

Otherwise, Linux phone looks interesting but it just relearning both another OS (like iPhone users trying to learn Android and vice versa) and also just I have low income so buying new tech is just expensive.

I don't want to throw myself a deepend to an OS that I not as familiar with beside on my desktop and Raspberry Pi. Personally, I prefer to know what's there before I just go blind so at least I can manage my expectation than expected it to do 1:1 stuff that I do on my phone right now.

Trust me, I know. Like I said, I only added it as there's ton people saying it underrated and act like it's a universal liked game and TOTALLY not disliked by many and said why it isn't good.

Hope this means we eventually get The Sims modding scene to the Fediverse as dispute them loving Tumblr, I always find it clunky to try find CCs

  • Tomb Raider (2013) - I want to like that game and even tried the mindset of "Try treat it as just a standalone game" like I did with Resident Evil 4 but unlike that game, the game is boring. The constant hold-handling which the combination of the reboot trying to be cinematic feels jarring. "Survival" mechanics feels like a gimmick and felt in late-game, it went just being generic shooter game.
  • Doom 3 - I only putting it here as there's fan saying it underrated but to me, it feels like a tech demo at best (a really good one as love the shadows) and at worst, it's a poor-man's Half-Life. It was at first, scary the jumpscare but that's more just emeries' placement which felt there for cheap scare which ruins the atmosphere a bit they just set up. Personally, I think Dead Space is everything what Doom 3 wishes it could of be. One thing I do like is you can listen to logs and read emails to try find out PINs for various lockers around the place which I thought that was cool.

For me, it's lack of Linux smartphones and also not selling in more popular shops. If I wasn't curious about Linux and decided to watch videos online about it, I wouldn't have known a Linux Smartphone exist and also, a smartphone is already a oversaturated market where it's just another iPhone or some sort of variation of a Android phone.

When I first brought it year ago as it the first Mechanical keyboard I own, I only just notice it's a US Layout when I tried to use it which I assume because I got it on Amazon UK, it would be in UK Layout. ~~Note to myself, do few minutes of research before buying it online again.~~

I saw on 8BitDo's subreddit of someone contracting customer service if they sell UK-layout keycaps which they said no. I did tried look one identical to it but it both different colour and also in US-Layout.

Before tells me "Just use US Layout", I tried it and still feels unnatural to me. I really don't want my keyboard picking up some dust but if there's isn't any keycap that both looks identical and in UK, I'm considering maybe getting Keychron Keyboard at some point.

I am interested of self-hosting my own instance but one the issue I have is:

  • Price for renting server and buying domain name. Mainly, I have low income.
  • Unsure if it be single-user instance or if I want multiple people on my instance.
  • If my instance is for multiple users, if I be the best fit for moderation as well, pitching it to non Fedizen (whatever you call people that use the Fediverse) as well as the theme of the instance as it would effect my Fedi software of choice (eg. Friendica, Mastodon/Glitch)

I just worried that I try just do it immediately without planning things out or have whatever things in mind which might otherwise help me know what's the best choice and not be upset that I wasted my time and money on something that didn't work out for me.

I'm all for advocating for people to stop using [insert any online platform that is moderated by far-right or a bootlicker to one]. My issue is that it feels for some the alternatives that it feels like someone just search alternatives to... on Google without actually using it.

The worst one is the one who suggest to use Odysee instead of YouTube. My experience from using Odysee is that it has way too many far-right videos and content creators and I can easily watch video that is pro-Nazi. I hate YouTube's censoring creators where it does effect creators who trying to discuss about Sexual Abuse, domestic violence, suicide and had to say other words like "unalive" which makes it seems less serious than it actually is. If they tried to say the actual word instead of censoring themselves, they will either get demonized or even have their video taken down and had to nag YouTube support team to put the video up again as they are spreading awareness.

PeerTube is closest one where it could be an alternative but not exactly a replacement where main problem is lack of content that I want to watch as sort video I like to watch (video essay, music video usually by mainstream artist etc.) is only available on YouTube. It then also encouraging people I subscribe to to try out PeerTube, even if it as a mirror which they are often active on Twitter which no offense, I can't be asred to make a Twitter account to try to ask them to join one the PeerTube instance which I doubt they would do.

This is coming for person that tries to advocate people to use Mastodon instead of Twitter which that failed and I'm just tried to try "be the change that [I] want to see". I know people who say that don't mean it but it feels like some saying I'm being too lazy for not have convert someone to get off the platform and it's super easy when it is not.

Sorry if this come off across as ramblebly but I feel like I'm going crazy at times and don't exactly fit-in despite hating what places like YouTube, Reddit and Twitter has become.

  • Flare Jeans - I find most jeans bit uncomfortable to wear and hate how tight it feels around bottom part of my legs. Thought I tried Flare Jeans which could only find one for women the shops near me so I tried them and it feels much better. One thing I don't like is the short pocket which is insane men's trouser have larger pocket where I can store my phone without it hanging out. Someday, I do need to try learn DIY so I can sew larger pockets on my jeans lol.
  • Crop Top - I blame Britney Spears but I do find crop tops really cute. Wish I have more self-confident to wear it more but sadly the area I'm in is highly homophobic.

I know the two in the past is seen unisex (any clothes is unisex if you don't give a damn) but it seems nowadays, it associated to only women's fashion.

How do you push yourself out there? (self.casualconversation)

I hadn't have the best interaction with people and I have made friends that I felt wasn't great for me as well as gotten out an controlling relationship a year ago. It has eaten up my self-esteem where I am scared to actually talk to anyone in real life as I worried similar thing would happen.

I know I need to push myself out there which is easier said than done. One thing I tried to do is if I am in a decent mood, I got to one the social group which is on like every month as well as join in to my friend's karaoke night and sing terribly. Sadly, I'm not Mariah Carey.. 😔

So I have taken slow steps up which is better than taking none I guess but I got long way till I feel confident in myself where I stop worrying about everything as it really does held me back in general.

I have always wanted to make my own neighborhood from scratch as I tend to play Pleasantview but the sort of lots I want to make will make Pleasantview squish. And another factor is majority of pre-made neighborhood are based in America (beside Veronaville as it build as Tudor-style based as the household are based on William Shakespeare' play) which I want to play neighborhood that based around modern Britain as well... I live there.

The only issue I have is:

  • How the hell do I make an terrain from SimCity4 where the terrain screams "British suburbia" and not another generic neighborhood. Not wanting to make 1:1 of a real-life town, but just gives off British vibe
  • Working out road layout within Sims 2 limitation. Despite you can import .sc4, you can can only use Roads (not Street road, One-way Road etc) and it can't be diagonal, otherwise the game won't render that road. So I had to use the "staircase" method to get rough curve
  • For making household, what story would they have as well as their job or if they own a business and which one. For me wanting to open a Salon or anything that sells item beside grocery, it required a Sim to open up a business. It not needed but it makes it more immersive when playing another household and if I feel like they need a haircut, I won't Change Appearance from their mirror and instead take them to salon and pay for haircut.

I might need to try look various places online and use Pinterest which I find alright for planning out the rough aesthetics. I probably should try find other media to get inspiration so feel free to suggest me any which gives me an excuse to take a break from spending HOURS on SimCity4 trying to make both terrain and road layout.

There's something so magical about the old-school Tomb Raider games and I love that feeling of that I have explore all by my own as well as the platforming which felt later games from Tomb Raider Legend streamlined it where I missed that that platforming from A to B was a puzzle to execute.

I tried Tomb Raider 2013 but just felt underwhelm by it and dislike how it where it take/district the controls to make the game "cinematic". Surprised I didn't like as I thought cause I'm a Zoomer, I would like newer games much more compare to the older one.

Any 3D games like Core Design's Tomb Raider that has heavily emphasis on Platforming would be nice to hear as I find it difficult to find game that is identical to Tomb Raider instead of Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. Both great games but completely different to Tomb Raider

For context, I saw a Lemmy post about Gamer Nexus' video about their video been taken-down by Bloomberg and seeing the comment of "just use PeerTube then." Which has got me thinking of the sort of content that YouTube channel makes definitely has high production value which unsure if donation would cover the cost but I know they have sponsor. Not sure how they feel about PeerTube but I know Nick (from The Linux Experiment) get sponsors so surely some them are alright with PeerTube then as his is more Linux based that embrace the Open Source ecosystem?

Generally just asking just more me being curious if that can be doable as I love PeerTube but I don't want to have blind optimism where I get pissed off at a content creator for not being on PeerTube and for the audience not wanting to use PeerTube despite hating YouTube so much.

TL;DR - Lemmy's userbase compare to Reddit just feel more angry and it so offputting when asking a question and getting an answer that sound like their pissed off. Feels oddly worse than Reddit.

Honestly, I want to like Lemmy as I want to try not use Reddit as much. The thing that is holding me back is I hate the users on Lemmy which their often passive aggressive and really snarky. I know Reddit does have those people but I always seen more them on Lemmy where I barely used it as much.

I asked on AskLemmy community if there's any Gen-Z community around, ideally just talking about nostalgia and stuff like that. Nothing malicious at all. Then got a angry reply saying "Fuck Gen-what, just join community and post!" and telling me about generation are there to "divide" people. Apparently, me asking community which mainly be me talking about cartoon and games I grow up with is evil.

If the tone was at least "This may not matter as much and you find it better picking any community that in your best interest" then I'm be alright, it the way they seem pissed at me for even asking it like I'm an idiot which gets to me. When I told that person to calm down and stop being snarky, I got reply from other users saying they wasn't.

Might stick to Reddit for now. I know it not great but it in my experince isn't as easily pissed off and is actually bareable to scroll for awhile. I hate talking bad about Lemmy as I really want to like it but I just hate the userbase so much that it feels pointless to even properly use it as much.
