Played some Judgment, have reached Chapter 8.

I am getting a bit tired of the chase and following parts, they were fun in the beginning, but pretty much every side story end up with chasing or following someone. The stories themselves are still interesting (most of the times, but when you have to run after the same "hat" 3rd time, that too starts to become a bit annoying) so continuing with those for now.

The Keihin Gang has also become a bit of an annoyance, I have already beaten most of their leaders, but after every little while the threat level increase to 100% with tons of enemies attacking wherever I go.

Even with these, the game is still fun, at worst I'll just skip the side content and stick to the main story.

Started Fire Emblem: Three Houses on Switch 2.

I first started it a while back, but got anxiety with all the relationship stuff that I am messing it up and won't be able to recruit anyone, so dropped the game. Started it again now, and am now following the guide for the monastery part. Though now I am realising there was no need for it. You can only have 10 units on one map, even with adjucants, you can't have more than 15 units even on the biggest map, with around 12-13 on normal one, so there was no point to get worries about it.

I have reached Chapter 6, and loving the gameplay. I have sided with Black Eagles, will probably replay to play through all house stories.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

I’m playing Fire Emblem Awakening and Pokemon ZA. The ZA is different from other Pokemon games and it’s been fun. I’m currently trying to evolve my Eevee into a Sylveon but it will take abit. I need to level them up a ton to get the correct moves in before the evo happens

Just reading about it, I'm motivated to get back to Three Houses, too. I also went with the Black Eagles initially, although that was a compromise. I was in favour of joining the Golden Deer and my partner wanted the Blue Lions - both of us had the Black Eagles in second place. Never did the other routes.

Just a heads-up, you might want to keep at least two save files. While there are only three houses, there are more routes. If you do all routes back to back, you probably don't want to play the first half of a diverging route twice.

Got any favourites already? Personally, I really enjoyed Hubert and Bernadette. Oh, and Ferdinand, too! The Black Eagles have so many standouts, I almost can't imagine liking the other houses as much.

After mentioning it a few weeks ago, I've started Harvestella.

The game combines dungeon crawling and farming, with quite a bit of story in between. Everything runs on a daily timer with unlimited days, I think. Most actions consume stamina, which can be recovered by eating.

The farming is quite simple thus far. Your basic ploughing, planting, watering and harvesting. You can build a few machines to mill wheat etc. and you can also raise animals, but I've not yet played around with these much. There's also a big list of achievements, like growing X amount of Y, and every few achievements, you unlock some new things.

The dungeon crawling is quite nice, too. And I found myself spending way more time in there, but this might change once my farm grows. You get a basic attack and a jumping button, that it at the beginning. Over time, you get more jobs and unlock special abilities, movement skills and passives. But overall, I think the combat system will remain quite chill. Something I got surprised by is the actual structure of dungeons: It somehow reminds me of Etrian Odyssey games. You've got your FOEs to work around (strong monsters to avoid) and points of interest you can interact with, that will either do you some good, some bad or both. You can unlock shortcuts, repair paths, collect stuff and find hidden treasures. Not challenging, but overall quite fun. (Mind you, I'm still at the beginning)

The writing is promising, but I can't say much about it yet. However, I initially started the game because I got it recommended for its strong character writing.

Thanks for the heads up, found a "spoiler-free" guide on when the route splits, so will make a separate save before that.

As for the characters, pretty much all of them are very interesting, don't think I can choose one favourite. Bernadetta is most interesting, though her backstory is pretty sad. Linhardt is most like me, except even lazier, and much more talented.

I think Harvestella has a ton of flaws, but I had a good time with that game. The worldbuilding was particularly impressive, I really want more games in that setting,

Mostly Xenoblade X this week. I forgot most alien races that come to your city, but I remembered every single one of them and what they were all about the second I saw them. I definitely forgot that pretty much all of them join at almost the same time. That was a veritable explosion of side quests!

Wild Arms 2 is progressing steadily, too. Contrary to Xenoblade X, I absolutely do not remember most of what is happening in this game. I remembered the duo of comic relief villains and their theme song, but some very important story beats feel like I'm seeing them for the first time.

As someone who hadn't played XC: X before, it was pretty interesting when that happened. Liked the wold-building.

Full Metal Schoolgirl for Switch 2. Work’s been frustrating so the premise sounded intriguing

Heh, the game give very mixed vibes to me, but it looks like something that can be mindless fun. Would love to hear how you liked the game, once you have played it some more.

Still going slow, but I'm feeling a lot better since yesterday so I might pick up the pace during the weekend.

Playing Super Robot Taisen Y!

Finished Chapter 4, got the upgraded Lunedrache and I'm loving it - I think it's my favorite main character upgrade since the Vangnex/Grandvang from SRTV, and Forte's new theme song is also great.

Did a lot of side-missions including all the puzzle-like "Relic" quests that were available. Since these missions only use 3 units and had high level opponents the characters I was using for them are now very overleveled, Forte reached 70 while most of the group was still on the 45-50 range! But there's plenty of units to play, so I'll just let her sit on the bench for a while so others can catch up.

I am not a big fan of big roster because of this. Find it difficult to keep everyone updated. But if there is lots of side content like this, which also overlevel your characters, it can help with keeping them all updated.

It's not really necessary to keep everyone at the same level in these games, I just prefer to rotate characters for fun.

But catching up in levels is extremely easy in SRT games - XP gain is proportional to level difference, so if there's someone underleveled you can just use other units to weaken a couple regular enemies for it to finish, use the "double XP" spell and get multiple levels per enemy. Heck, you can do this with a boss unit and sometimes get as many as 8-10 levels at once.

Owlboy, continuing my slow progress. Reminds me of Cave Story a bit.

[-] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

How are you liking the game? It has been on my wishlist for a long time, and I should be getting it sometime soon now.

I also have to play Cave Story, was hoping for a sale, but it hasn't gotten one in years, so will have to get it at full price.

It is good, a nice mix of story and action I think plus the (unique?) concept of your owl carrying characters who have their own abilities is interesting. The puzzles are pretty simple it's mostly about the combat though there's also a little bit of stealth needed at times.

Difficulty does ramp up quite fast, or at least compared to something like Mario Wonder but Owlboy is a shorter game so I guess that's to be expected. The pixel art is luscious and there are some memorable scenes. In reviews I think it ranges from 70-90% and I'd give it 80+ for sure.

If you have a linux machine Cave Story is also freely available via flatpak: https://flathub.org/en/apps/com.gitlab.coringao.cavestory-nx

Thanks for the link, I do have linux machine but I dont' really enjoy gaming on PC. I am assuming this is the original freeware release of the game (repacked as flatpak)?

[-] IanTwenty@piefed.social 1 points 6 hours ago

I guess so, the readme states:

The game Cave Story was released in 2004 and made available in the freeware version after more than five years in development...
