Thanks team. I have come down from that panic. Had a little catch up with workmates and we have some plans for the next week to help with workload and I am not actively panicking now. Thanks for being a safe place to scream. โ™ฅ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธ

Fancy foccacia sandwhich for breakfast:

Mushroom duxelle, mild salami, lots of soft fresh cheese, rocket, olive oil and balsamic

Hooray for last minute offers to taking annual leave on Friday

Dealing with two miserable kids to then have to be like, "Okay, time to go to work." I felt like I needed a sit down and some Time On Phone after everything in the morning.

Landlord is installing split system in every room next week. Summer will suck a lot less.

Also Iโ€™m done with vaping this time for real lol. Almost out of juice and itโ€™s all going in the bin. I donโ€™t want to be smoking by my birthday in 3 weeks.

Ooh, day shift are starting to trickle in. I am so looking forward to bed and being horizontal.

2025 is Googling minor health questions (about vitamins or whatever) and skipping over any US government-funded advice because it can't be trusted any more.

I recently received a $60 credit from The Good Guys after an ACCC ruling (they'd had a promotion with some dodgy terms). I decided to get a new toaster, and fortuititously the toaster and delivery came to exactly $60. Can't complain about an unexpected free toaster.

[-] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

Dammit, I've got $20 tgg credit if anyone wants it.

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago

Anyone got any go to meditations/music/actions for dealing with panic attacks? My go tos are not working.

TitleAm having a really bad mental health day today. Have a bunch of things at home and work that are just overwhelming me and had to deal with snappy mcsnappheads this morning venting and correcting me while I was trying to do a simple handover to another staff member. Really fighting the urge to go and hide literally and figuratively. Come on brain. Just do something.

Can't face doing the GP and psych referral dance. I am hoping this is all externally caused and will pass. Just feeling very alone and panicked.

No I can't escalate the work stuff..I am where the buck stops for this particular stuff. I am just so sick of being a grown up.

[-] Eagle@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

I use an app called Insight Timer. There are guided meditations and you can choose by the time you have available. There's plenty available on the free side of it, you don't need to purchase anything. Do you have access to an EAP?

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

I actually did a breathing exercise on there just before.

No no EAP. Should look into suggesting we get one though

Iโ€™m sorry youโ€™re having such a hard time.

Thereโ€™s an album called () by a band called Sigur ros Youโ€™ll know itโ€™s the right one if all the tracks are called untitled 1, 2 etc.

Always helps when Iโ€™m feeling bad.

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

I will try that. I have had Tales Under The Oak' new album on repeat - it's like dreamy old PC game music and little stories.

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling shit. Is there any kind of music that makes you go good crazy? Campy pop music?

Sleep music can be good. Also Sigur Ros like Gibson mentioned.

I was using this playlist for a while

Don't forget to be kind to yourself. It does sound like that person contributed to your anxiety.

Well. Thatโ€™s interesting.

The lock on my mailbox is gone.

Iโ€™m reasonably certain nothing of value or interest was taken - it was empty when I left this morning, and I donโ€™t get THAT much post - but the local ferals are getting bold

Melbcat spluttering and spitting out purple cranberry medicine on white sheets: I am particularly inspired by the works of Jackson Pollock ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ๐ŸซŸ

One of my goals for this year was to run 5k and build 5kg of muscle to help with my low muscle tone and improve my physical and mental health. It's been very slow going, and I'm finding it hard to become motivated to do the things. I know motivation is bullshit when it comes to this kind of stuff. Got my Fitbit to work again, so I might start wearing it for a bit of a boost. I want to be able to move my body for as long as I can. Even though I'm really uncoordinated, I can still move!

Missing: YarraByte. May have been blown away . If seen please tell Mr Byte to report to the daily thread. Do not report sightings to 000 unless you want to really confuse an emergency calltaker.

Nah, he stayed too long at Kelly's Bar again. Not an emergency fortunately, just a baaaad habit. We may have to start a gofundme to secure an adequate supply of beroccas.

Got a cold from getting stuck in the rain yesterday. Lame.

[-] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

This is an interesting line of thinking. I was told as a child that if I go out in the cold, I will get a cold. Have since heard it's a myth. Is it more the symptoms that come from cold exposure, like a "headcold" or the virus itself?

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

Reduced immune system response if you get chilled I reckon. Also airborne viruses survive much longer in the cold due to a fatty outer layer that evaporates in hot weather and sunshine. Also UV kills viruses and there's less of that in cold weather.

No idea but it sucks lol

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

I want to do art, to exercise, to UNKAOSโ€ฆ

But it all takes energy and feels pointless

[-] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I spent many years of my life not doing things that could benefit me because of all the self-talk. Everything feels too hard or pointless or overwhelming or I won't enjoy it. I don't know about your situation, but it's tricky to recognise that sometimes your brain can be bullshitting you. Put on a five minute timer and start with something that can be done from where you are now! Like Zen Colour or something. I personally like doing the wordle.

Edit: I feel like the miserable has to outweigh the not wanting to do things. Takes time. Think of your values. I should too.

[-] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Do a tiny bit of each, the pointless feeling is the resistance. 3 x 10 push ups against the kitchen counter and same squats sitting into a chair, you've got all day. Do the dishes. Draw a bird or some faces or a scene for a few minutes. If you don't have a lot of energy, aim to only spend a little lest your cup run empty.

Someone has stolen my bin now. People are literally stealing anything that isnโ€™t nailed down -_-

Iโ€™ve reported it and am going to have to just keep garbage bags on the doorstep while I wait for the replacement.

[-] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Someone stole our recycling bin once, then it came back a couple of weeks later. Maybe a case of mistaken identity.

Bins also get tipped into the truck occasionally

[-] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

UNKAOS sounds a bit like a submarine operation. How do we go about UNKAOSing? Any specific principles to follow, or is it just a matter of making shitty things better?

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago

You start with KAOS and work against entropy to undo it

And usually you have to first invent ~~the universe~~ an organisational system

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

I have joined the up and awake club for the day. Today's To Do List includes checking the back yard and hunting down the things which blew off my potting table in yesterday's wind and clearing out the fridge in preparation for tomorrow's grocery delivery.

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

I have been listening to back episodes of a podcast about Terry Pratchett (Pratchat -its fun) but I just listened to one from Jan 2020 and they comment in passing on the bushfires and Trump round 1 and mention some stuff coming up on the next few months and it's like "oh no! You don't know yet...."

Weird feeling. It's really been a big five years hasn't it?
