Terminator 2 is probably the easiest answer.

[-] RavenofDespair@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

no Terminator is the main protector in movie

Mary Poppins

Alien (if you count the cat)

28 Days Later

Run Lola Run (sorta)

[-] spittingimage@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago

Alien (if you count the cat)

I count Ripley following protocol and refusing to open the airlock for a contaminated crewmate. If Ash hadn't stepped in, the movie would have ended very differently.

Also she defended Burke when the Marines were going to kill him for what he did. I mean she wanted him punished but... Letter of the law here. He was weak, she defended him.

I don't remember much of that movie, but an Aliens / Evil Dead crossover sounds like a lot of fun.

[-] spittingimage@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I think that would work best as a comic. The two movies are too different in tone to put on screen.

[-] toynbee@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

That's fair, I feel like I could support the project either way.

[-] Icytrees@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago

I meant that Jonesy is the weak male that Ripley physically and emotionally protects.

[-] Changer098@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 5 days ago

Jonesy is a good cat

[-] RavenofDespair@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

yes on Mary Poppins and Run Lola Run

[-] MoonMelon@lemmy.ml 38 points 5 days ago

The first Underworld from 2003 is like this, but it's painfully early 2000s. It's from that era when every action movie was ripping of The Matrix as hard as possible.

[-] scoobford@lemmy.zip 12 points 4 days ago

Pain? No that feeling is wonder.

It is wonderfully early 2000s.

[-] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 days ago

Kate Beckinsale younger and in leather. Nice.

A sadly underappreciated show:

Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles

[-] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Easily the best terminator property after the first two. I mean that’s not a high bar, but i mean it should be held in the same esteem as they are.

[-] 0_0j@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I loved it! Binged all day!

[-] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Awesome! Be prepared, though: it’ll break your heart. They had the story worked out. Was going to be 4 seasons. We got 2.

[-] jacksilver@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago
  • Star wars force awakens.
  • Tangled
  • Mulan
  • Transformers
  • Avatar (Blue people)

Could probably come up with more.

[-] Corridor8031@lemmy.ml 18 points 4 days ago

Alita: Battle Angel i think was like this a bit, but it is maybe not straightforward enough

maybe the no game no life movie , but i dont think that is really what you are looking for

Firefly original series with Wash + Zoe

[-] Inucune@lemmy.world 31 points 5 days ago

First matrix. Trinity is much more skilled than Neo until the final act.

[-] yaroto98@lemmy.world 21 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Similarly - Edge of Tomorrow Emily Blunt is skilled and trains Tom Cruise until he's competent enough to save the world. By the end they're both extremely competent. Only reason Tom Cruise saves the world and not her is due to the timeloops. She'd already done it once.

Any of the Sailormoon movies possibly?
Tuxedo Mask usually gets more into trouble than the heroine herself.

Although I wouldn't actually count him as weak, just weaker.
And it's an old anime series, like starting in the 1990s, with later reboots.

[-] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 20 points 5 days ago

Not a movie but Star Trek Voyager might be something you'll enjoy?

Lemmy: Fuck you if you use AI

Also Lemmy: Fuck you for asking actual people questions I've arbitrarily decided you should have asked AI instead

[-] solrize@lemmy.ml 12 points 5 days ago

I feel like lots of questions here are trying to elicit training data for AI, or else are disguised marketing surveys. Other people probably also notice and react to that.

[-] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 24 points 5 days ago

Possibly, but personally, I choose to enjoy discussing with humans rather than worry about my random pointless discussions being used to train AI. I refuse to be less human because of AI.

[-] limerod@reddthat.com 8 points 5 days ago

Usually, you can tell if someone is putting some effort. The OP is not even repying to deny any of the comments. So, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No, we're humans having conversations.

Also, we need to recreate tipofmytongue, because it was a really good sub, where people could ask stuff like this and get answers pretty quickly.

Aliens. After Gorman's breakdown, all the marines start taking orders from Ripley.

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 9 points 5 days ago

curiously I have seen it with tv shows lately. A good place, hellava boss, and the anime Tougen Anki has like the most extreme version of that I think possible. I feel like I have seen more but can't recall atm.

[-] Pumafred9@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

3000 Years of Longing maybe? Tilda is very caring and acknowledging of her Djinn's needs.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The machine
