~~Who would win?~~ Who won?

[-] silence7@slrpnk.net 38 points 4 weeks ago

ICE sprayed a chemical weapon directly into the frog costume air intake. Frog came back the next day

[-] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago

A little attempted murder isn't gonna stop that frog.

[-] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

It would be really funny when a few etzy people banded together to make the same frog coatume over and over and the next day two identical frogs stand there.

[-] silence7@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 weeks ago

I think the costume is available for $30 or so online

Americans are fucking disgusting. Fascists take over and they dress up in childish costumes instead of fighting.

Fucking act as seriously as this is.

And do what, exactly? Provide the exact excuse the federal government is posturing for, allowing them to justify the actions that our various local/state governments are fighting to show aren't real? Should we start an insurrection, so that Trump can start gunning down citizens with impunity and incite even more dramatic acts of violence from his base?

Truly, what do you think Portlanders, as individuals or small groups, could be doing that would meaningfully prevent the administration from enacting their agenda? Portland isn't on fire. Trump says it is. Should they burn it down to prove him wrong?

Did... Did you just link an onion article as a source?

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 2 points 4 weeks ago

. . .W-what? What exactly do you think I would have even been sourcing?

[-] obsoleteacct@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago

You can source satire as a basis for resistance, while criticizing the use of humor as a means of resistance. Pick a side of your own argument to be on.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 1 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Sorry, are you a fascist?

Why would I object to humour being 'used' on you? Because my issue is using it on fascists instead of bullets.

[-] Ava 1 points 3 weeks ago

"Here's an Onion article" isn't a response to what I said. Most Americans also don't like the situation we're in. We agree with you on that point. But "I don't like this version of events and you people are disgusting for letting it happen" is a pointless observation when nobody has laid out an actual plan that could change things more than what's being done.

I ask again. What do you propose we should be doing instead?

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Oh it’s a pretty valid response to the same old tired nonsense bandied about “Oh don’t do anything, it might make Trump do something whilst ignoring that he hasn’t needed one single excuse to date to achieve all that he has. At this point Im starting to think people still saying that are right wing astro-turfers.

And I ask that you fight and use the only language that fascists understand. A stupid fucking costume and social media clout wasn’t what was required to stop the Nazis.

[-] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 24 points 4 weeks ago

humor is part of practical anarchist resistance. also I'm pretty sure they're blocking ice vehicles from leaving so this was already working anyway but now with a side of media coverage virality

Sabotage comes in many forms. Looks like one person with a frog costume has tied up the local gestapo for an evening

[-] obsoleteacct@lemmy.zip 11 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Mockery, satire, and other forms of humor are, and always have been, powerful tools against authoritarian forces. It's why they always co-opt, or censor comedy.

Humor tells them you're not afraid. It demonstrates that they aren't as powerful as they'd like the public to think. Because it's entertaining, it causes people to pay attention and emboldens them to see the limits of their would be oppressors. Its also uplifting in a very scary and sad time.

Not everyone can be, or needs to be, gearing up for a fight. Everyone does need to do what they can. Even if that's making the gestapo OC gas an unarmed frog.
