They'll stand around and expertly do nothing.

[-] doc@fedia.io 59 points 5 days ago

Because these is nothing to do. Literally. I'm sure they'll instigate something.

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 25 points 5 days ago

The military won't. Especially guys trained like this. Everything the regime is doing is meant to scare people into submission and I don't think they're very happy with the lack of success in that regard.

The feds though? After the way they chased and tackled a guy for throwing a sandwich at them, and how they happily abduct families and generally don't care about people's safety in general? They sure as fuck will..

[-] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago

The fascists are trying to pressure people into an armed reaction so they can declare martial law and cancel elections

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago

I thought the guy with the sandwich ran off in a very Monty Python-esque manner. They might have tackled him in his apartment the next day though, but I seem to remember the subway sandwich guy initially escaping. I could have that wrong though.

And if nobody takes the bait, the administration just declares that they've saved Portland and it's peaceful there now, you're welcome.

[-] Fleur_@aussie.zone 61 points 5 days ago

Americans about to understand what it feels like to be invaded by America

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago

Yeah, but it's the parts that typically didn't vote for the imperial shit, either. It'd be nice if the dumbfucks that vote for that stuff might learn some lessons, but they are the ones so skeered of Blah people and Teh Tranz and the libruls and perfessers and the woke that they voted for a dickhead that literally promised "retribution" to their (his) enemies as a platform.

They'll get sweet fuckall other than the satisfaction of "owning the libs". Even if they have to move into a tent, at least they got to feel superior to the people they look down on.

[-] selkiesidhe@sh.itjust.works 36 points 5 days ago

Fuck off fascists.

Though if you'd like to visit Portland, please enjoy the flowers, the trees, grab some coffee, and try some food cart cuisine--- you'll love it. There ain't shit going down in Portland other than we hate fucking fascists.

[-] Bosht@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

Their food trucks are fucking unreal. I've visited like 3 different time and have never eaten the same truck twice and everything is just ridiculously good.

[-] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 29 points 5 days ago

Remember back in WW2 when the 82nd fought against fascists instead of licking their boots?

How disappointing.

The Minnesota Star Tribune obtained images of Salisbury’s Signal messages, which it said were sent while the official was “in clear view of others” in Minnesota.

They still haven't learned.

It’s a killer ad for Signal though. If the top brass (with clearance to access shit like what the NSA is able to crack) is using it to commit treason, it has to be secure.

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 5 points 5 days ago

Oh, Signal got that ad a few months ago already. You must have missed this.

[-] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 30 points 5 days ago

If they're truly elite, they'll quit on the spot when the orders go out. There is no justification in the world that will protect them from becoming the enemy of their own countrymen.

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago

I think i read somewhere that the order to be there might not be against the law, it'd be the order to do something.

So if they're just there standing around, refusing to go might be insubordination.

I may be completely wrong though.

Imagine being in the special forces, standing on the streets of portaland, going national guard duty stuff.. I gues they atleast are getting paid a decent hire.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 26 points 5 days ago

It's not even national guard duty stuff. It's crossing guard duty stuff.

[-] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago

That actually involves being slightly helpful. This is just security guard stuff. Paul Blart would be overqualified for this.

[-] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 days ago

I bet that would be demoralizing for those soldiers.

[-] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 5 days ago

Sending elite soldiers to murder soy latte consumers. What a time to be an American!

[-] lettruthout@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

Hey, those children and nannies can be dangerous!

[-] PeacefulForest@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago

Don’t forget the naked bike riders

Archive link of the original star tribune article.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I hope they know their stripclubs are about to be overrun. They’re going to also need a list of addresses for “restricted businesses” aka brothels in the area. This is all highly important and for national security of course

[-] whats_a_lemmy@midwest.social 5 points 5 days ago

Is this the first time they're using active duty troops and not national guard?

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 21 points 5 days ago

They also deployed Marines to LA.

[-] whats_a_lemmy@midwest.social 5 points 5 days ago

Can't believe I forgot about that. Thanks
