Hey Ford, would those alternative measures include narrowing roads for cars, installing protected bike lanes, modal filters?

Best we can do is tunnels and flaming hoops on ramps.

This guy is such a duplicitous shithead.

Demands speed cameras. Fleeces the public in a cash grab then removes them. And fellow OLP shithead delduca has the gall to say roads are safer without them. Like all these fuckers ignore scientific research saying otherwise.

I hate speed cameras. I see why they're needed.

Seriously fuck any politician who is against speed cameras while doing shit all to install speed bumps or some other aggressive car destroying mechanism in school zones.

You want people to slow down? Fucking make them.

Nah, policies need to be based on the cheapest and easiest solutions which need to amount to simply asking people "can you please slow down?"

Fuck the OPC and the shithead Ford and fuck the OLP and that potato shaped fuckhead DelDuca.

The two last streets I lived on had speed cameras installed while I was there. There was a clear difference before and after. THEY WORK. Any municipality that removes speed cameras is not putting safety and quality of life first. Ford says they will use other methods like raised crossings and curb extensions... Why not all of the above? Respect residential areas, it's really not hard to drive a little slower. I feel like people who are angered by speed cameras are still children.

They don’t work nearly as well as you think. It’s like saying posting a cop on a street corner stops people from doing rolling stops at the stop sign. Might there, but it just masks the problem.

Here's an article talking about cameras in Hamilton and Niagara that get moved around town every once in a while. They say the cameras make a huge difference.

I don't know why anything that increases safety AND generates revenue is debated in politics.

My major complaint is actually that it’s a much higher burden on the poor. If the fee was based on net worth, or yearly income, I’d be much more into it.

Though I will say the random placement definitely seems like a better choice than stationary.

Maybe we put speed cameras in places where traffic calming is needed and not just randomly distributed around town? Your comment insinuates that its pointless unless all roads have cameras, which is a bit silly.

They work to slow down traffic. At that one spot. People avoid them so it pushes more speeders onto smaller residential streets.

I still don't understand why a provincial government dictates non-provincial matters.

[-] twopi@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

Technically municipalities are provincial jurisdiction since they are creatures of the province.

The constitution only mentions the federal and provincial governments.

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

He’s trying to bankrupt municipalities so him bankrupting the province doesn’t look as bad.

Bets on how long that funding lasts? 1 year? Probably less.
