The artwork, which shows a judge hitting a protester with a gavel, was confirmed by the elusive street artist.

Cut it out and send it to the Louvre Museum.

[-] Akasazh@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Cut it out an commit it to the flames. By 'it' I mean the corrupt heart of the political status quo.

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 4 points 8 hours ago

I just don’t get the appeal.

[-] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 7 hours ago

I hope that this is just a misunderstood pun?

[-] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

It’s not. I don’t understand what makes his art so popular. To me it’s irony telling on itself. Like, as I understand, most of his stuff is suspend to be a giant middle-finger to all things trendy, but it’s nothing but. The minute that guy farts in a jar, the world will turn into one giant olfactory nerve.

It’s popular because it’s rare? Is it popular because he personifies low hanging fruit? I mean… hitting someone with a gavel? What a surprisingly fresh take that is…

I honestly don’t get it and I’m not trying to agitate. I’m dead serious.

[-] spacesatan@leminal.space 1 points 1 hour ago

It's pretty uninspiring artistically but at least he's putting his fame to good use with a message slightly more controversial than 'what if cops were gay' or some of his other stuff. Also a very solid up purely from a graffiti perspective, that's a big piece for a location with that much security.

[-] shane@feddit.nl 39 points 14 hours ago

While the mural does not reference a particular cause or incident, its appearance comes two days after almost 900 people were arrested at a London protest against the ban on Palestine Action.

This seems nonsensical to me.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 146 points 18 hours ago

That’s a good piece of art

[-] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 64 points 15 hours ago

Just dropped this in another thread, best copy I've found of just the mural:

[-] Akasazh@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

Not showing for me somehow

[-] nailbar@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 hours ago

I had to open in external because of some cloudflare validation

[-] datavoid@lemmy.ml 6 points 13 hours ago

Wow you can really see the details

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 44 points 18 hours ago

Yeah I was gonna say, that's a fucking awesome piece! What do they do in situations like this? Paint over it?

[-] hector@lemmy.today 20 points 13 hours ago

Yeah they plan on painting over it. They covered it up and put two policemen to guard it to make sure nobody looks at it.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 7 points 9 hours ago

Guess we finally found who we're not allowed to criticise.

[-] Blumpkinhead@lemmy.world 22 points 12 hours ago

That's not dystopian or anything.

[-] hector@lemmy.today 17 points 11 hours ago

The UK is about just as fucked up as the United States is right now in a lot of ways, their leader is just don't say stupid shit constantly. They have basically made it illegal to protest, not just on the Gaza on a lot of stuff, environmental, global warming, and the judges just took away the defenses protesters were using, not allowing them to say why they were doing it. And they are hitting him with these huge sentences is not like it's months in jail we're talking years or more.

Just to give you an idea of where they are at there was another recent case where a woman that took some abortion pills that she got from the doctor as per their laws was charged under some like 19th century law with some huge felony charge. She got not guilty but not for lack of trying on the prosecutor's part.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 7 points 9 hours ago

And they're not even ruled by the conservative parties. This is the good outcome!

[-] mcv@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

I'm absolutely baffled at Labour. The Tories were a complete clown show, and it should have been trivial to put up some serious opposition against them, but they never did. Only when the Tories really burned out, did Labour win, and they're immediately giving us Tories-light. The same shit, just toned down 20%.

When does the UK start voting for better parties? Replace the Tories with LibDem and Labour with the Greens. If I lived in England, I'd be upset I couldn't vote for SNP. Every other party is better than these two.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 hour ago

And they got into power because everyone was going "oh shit, we don't want another Trump", then just run full steam ahead into issues that will piss off their base. Someone who hasn't been kept up to date could be excused for thinking the party restricted trans people and arresting peace protesters en masse was the more conservative party.

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 16 minutes ago* (last edited 14 minutes ago)

They followed their conquering of the Labour Party leadership thanks to a campaign of slanderous accusations of anti-semitism against the previous leader which was done with the help of Israeli-linked Jewish Groups in Britain, with a purge of Leftwingers from the Labour Party.

So it was pretty much expectable that they would be authoritarian rightwingers since that's exactly how they behaved and they associated and got support from exactly that kind of people (having basically been gifted power by the Zionists back when people still thought accusations of anti-semitism coming from Jewish rightwingers were genuine rather than politically weaponized claims of racism).

Mind you, they only won because Britain has First Past The Post and (which is not really a Democratic member of parliament allocation system) and the Reform party split the Tory vote making them lose the top place in lots of electoral circles.

The system in Britain is rotten and the stink has risen enough to be unbearable.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 84 points 17 hours ago

They cordoned it off and covered it with tarps or sheets. They don't want to paint over it or destroy it because it's instantly worth a fortune and nobody knows exactly what to do, which is part of the genius of it.

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 minutes ago

It is just delicious how their knee-jerk reaction of "lets hide it" reveals so much about their mindset and how much that mural hits the target as critique of the true role of their profession in present day Britain.

They reacted as the guilty do, not the innocent.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 52 points 17 hours ago

Yeah I saw in the article that they covered it up and posted guards. Kind of ironic if they end up removing the section of wall and making a ton of money selling it.

"Look, Banksy thinks we're committing atrocities! We're gonna be rich!!"

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 22 points 16 hours ago

it’s instantly worth a fortune

The whole point of Banksy is most of his public work cannot be resold.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 14 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

"He no longer sells photographs or reproductions of his street graffiti, but his public "installations" are regularly resold, often even by removing the wall on which they were painted"

The latest articles have also stated that the art will be preserved for it's "historic value" which is even more funny. They don't want anyone to see it, they find it offensive and deeply troubling for calling out abuse of power... but they are going to spend a fortune to preserve it or resell it in some way.

[-] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 16 points 14 hours ago

To a degree, people will cut out chunks of wall to sell a banksy.

[-] rizzothesmall@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 hours ago

They always go for a cover up

[-] purplemonkeymad@programming.dev 7 points 14 hours ago

Usually it's just fenced off and people can still see it. Makes me think some one was upset with it.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 17 hours ago

Close:

The artwork was quickly covered up by large sheets of plastic and two metal barriers, under the guard of two security officers

The West is dismantling every shibboleth, every sacred cow, in service to genocidal Zionism.

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 minutes ago

There's a lot of West in the West.

That said, you're exactly right for certain Western countries such as Britain, America and Germany.

[-] hector@lemmy.today 4 points 11 hours ago

I wonder if he did like Cut outlines that they could paste up there and then spray over it? Because time certainly would have been an issue at that location. Is incredible detail it seems like it would take forever if not for the outline already being done elsewhere.

[-] prole 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Exactly my thought when I saw it... Several stencils that act as layers. Maybe buttressed against the floor to keep it level.

[-] halferect@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago

It's stencils and than final touches after, the painting probably only took a few minutes at most

[-] klu9@piefed.social 56 points 20 hours ago

Nitpick: it's Parliament who proscribed Palestine Action, not the courts.

[-] Boo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 85 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

It is the courts upholding it though.

It took like two months now that Palestine Action are allowed to get an appeals hearing in November iirc.
Courts could have decided for the proscription to not be applicable until a proper hearing takes place. Instead it was upheld.

[-] purplemonkeymad@programming.dev 15 points 14 hours ago

Yea the decision to ban it went through so fast it was hard to have a defence, but the appeals are all delayed now they have one.

[-] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 52 points 19 hours ago

Cross nitpick: Just because the courts are following Parliament's 'law' in no way negates their complicity in doing wrong.

See Nazi guards following Hitler's rules for reference.

According to a cursory search, Banksy's net worth is $50 million. Hmm.

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Yes but it's $50m worth of card stock and rattle cans.
