Donald J. Trump got 312 electoral votes and approximately 77,303,568 popular votes (49.81%), while Kamala Harris received 226 electoral votes and approximately 75,019,230 popular votes (48.34%)

But sure lets bang on about how Americans are getting the economy they voted for 🥴

That also doesn't count the lots of people that didn't vote because of disenfranchment or discrimination.

If you didn't vote then you voted for this.

Love those who ignore the flat out voter suppression that occurs across the country, but go off. Edit: redundant words

I had to wait in line for 4 hours to vote just to come home and realize I was going to have to survive a fascist hell hole for a minimum of 4 more years. I’m not going to thumb my nose at people that had to leave, they don’t make it easy.

Assuming Russia just never used any of the data from their 3+ previous US election hacks. And none of this is true: https://thiswillhold.substack.com/p/ex-cia-whistleblower-the-nsa-audited

Great link, thanks for that. It's a good read. I was going to mention this aspect in my post above. I didn't want to go down that rabbit hole in case I would trigger the finger pointing and conspiracy theorist claims, but now we're here. This is incredible, and I have read other legitimate claims like this. I wish we could post sub-stack posts in a dedicated community somewhere on Lemmy, maybe its something I should think about.

The US election system is very anti-democratic. And yet it never seems to be a big political issue there. Until that changes, the 50% reasonable people there will be held hostage by the 50% morons.

Well some of us are anyway.

[-] jaykrown@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

I didn't vote for any of this shit, quite the opposite actually.

Democracy is the worst group project ever

First let’s talk about some of the latest numbers. We basically want our economy to do two things: 1) give everyone a job with a good income, and 2) keep prices stable.

And herein lies the mistake. The trump administration has no intention of improving the quality of life of the people by increasing their buying power.

A working class with more buying power is a stronger working class, and that's not what Trump wants.

Also, that statement shows the profound depth of the capitalist Stockholm Syndrome. I would have hoped an economist would know better. On the contrary, our economy should give everyone ~~a job with~~ a good income. In the pie-in-the-sky case, we could provide a good living for everybody without anybody having to work. That was the vision of the future back in the mid-20th century.

The model of everybody earning their right to a living through a job gets increasingly fraught as more and more work gets automated. But yeah, that's exactly what the U.S. political class wants, to keep Americans are always desperate and striving, so that their wholesale wealth extraction operation can continue apace.

wholesale wealth extraction operation can continue apace

i'm gonna copy that phrase :)
