I’ve been stuck on listening to various live versions of Comfortably Numb (e.g., Pulse, Live in Gdańsk, etc) just to find out which has the best solo because it’s lived rent free in my head for a quarter of a century

Speaking as a casual, non-musical person, I gotta stick to Pulse but, ironically, it goes beyond Gilmour’s solo: I think Rick Wright’s keyboard work added a richness to it that no one was able to match afterwards.

Pulse is even better than the original

I can tell you the worst. It was from Roger water's latest tour.

Pure garbage. Saw him in Milwaukee, it was basically Roger Waters ego with some Floyd thrown in

It was a shame cause the visuals were incredible.

Watching some reaction videos of people discovering Pink Floyd, one of them made an observation that clicked during "Time". That Pink Floyd likes to first set the mood with the opening, then drop a few profound lyrics, and follow with a long solo that sets a mood of introspection where your mind goes back to those lyrics letting them hit harder during the musical interlude...then they follow with deeper lyrics to hit again.

I'll admit that I'm one of those who enjoyed Pink Floyd when I was younger mainly because of the music. It's coming around again and the lyrics are now my focus because some of it hits far harder once you have experience in life.

It always feels like I'm in a long trance when listening to their music. It just flows.

Not this week, but I have applied for planning permission for a two story structure at the side of his back yard

They aren’t a band anymore.

They are separated by one lunatic and the rest of the band.

So first, Syd Barret was removed from the band in 68 after a mental breakdown. It's suspected that he developed schizophrenia.

Second is the feud between Waters and Gilmour. They clashed constantly on the direction of the band, leading to Waters finally leaving the group. Waters left the group and Gilmour and Mason wanted to continue. This started an all out war over Pink Floyd continuing to exist. Waters finally resigned in the 80s, stating that fighting them would have ruined him financially. However, it's pretty clear that he continues to hold a grudge about how it all went down and what he feels is being banned from anything Pink Floyd related. Every attempt to resolve things since has resulted in them clashing. Neither party has been able to let things go, and it seems that Waters can't help but be antagonistic in general. This is a pretty short, but decent article about the whole thing. The whole history of Pink Floyd is an amazing read. What happened to Syd is just heartbreaking.

Waters has since gone and stuck his head into the Ukranian war, denying Russia committed war crimes because only the west has reported them, and that he's on a Ukrainian hit list. Waters has self reported that he dealt with a lot of anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation. Apparently he went through 20 years of therapy. Still doesn't seem to be able to let things go.

Some day, probably long after they’re all dead and buried, the Pink Floyd mini-series will be fucking epic to watch. Fleetwood’s would be pretty great too.
