I was expecting not to receive my full pay rise this financial year regardless of meeting my performance plan because I haven't been in this particular role for the full financial year.. but I just got an email saying congratulations and that my pay rise is coming through on the next pay run along with backpay from July 1! Yay!!

Sometimes things just work out.

Sat outside Brunetti on Flinders Lane with a drink being Melbourne as fuuuuuuuck 🀌🀌🀌🀌🀌🀌

Windows are being replaced with double glaze today, at 7.30am.

Also have a combination of medicine issues with a lil bit of food poisoning. Makes for my first sickday πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

On the brightside: i can call workforce today to remove the hold on my payment. Apparently not going to the employment training for the last two days of it last week (bc I gained FT employment) means I'm a bad dole bludger and must be punished with even more poverty ugh πŸ™„

I'm really not adult enough for my job.

[-] useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago

Meh..let the adults worry about that stuff.

I am one of those people who hate chasing up money even though I have been owed it. The person I was dealing with is nice but they haven't paid me for some work I did, so do you think a simple "Hey, how's it going? I was wondering if you had a chance to talk to payroll/admin regarding the payment for [event] we discussed?" would be fine?

[-] bull@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

Yep it's on them to feel bad about them not paying you, not you. That's a very reasonable email. Can't imagine how you could word it any nicer or gentler.

[-] 00Steve@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

That sounds completely reasonable

I hope you get him too.

Don’t forget the cat tax when you bring him home!

Had an MRI this morning, first time. I knew it was going to be an uncomfortable experience but I wasn't expecting to feel completely stoned afterwards. Had to sit in the car for 20 minutes before I felt capable of driving home and even now I still feel a bit spacey. Might have a nap.

The prevailing theory for the use of eyepatches, in the case of piracy on the high seas and maritime combat, is that they will help preserve your β€œdark adapted vision”.

In such cases where you need to transition belowdecks you can maintain combat effectiveness in low light conditions.

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Oh. I thought it might have been because you've accidentally poked an eye with your hook hand while swatting a fly.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

sailors would sometimes lose an eye from ropes flicking up

they would also lose a lower limb from a rope accidently coiling around an ankle

ships are dangerous, the sails exert strong forces and anchors are very heavy

the dark adapted vision thing is probably because they used sextants for navigation and that meant looking at the sun

Another unseasonably warm morning, bringing with it both pleasure at the temperature and a sense of existential dread at the larger meaning of it all. I plan to work out my inner angst by raining destruction upon the leaf-curl ridden nectarine tree that's never produced any fruit, and the gall wasp ridden lemon tree that is little more than a twig with leaves that constantly surprises me by the fact that it somehow manages to still be alive.

I freaking HATE when people use my full name when my email, contact details and profile are all my short name. Think calling someone Benjamin when their email signature and address are both just Ben. Its condescending as shit, and like some sort of power play or something.

Grocery shopping done, two boxes of stuff dropped off at the op shop, cardboard boxes collected and first load of washing in. \0/. Was going to say on to the next task, but Sammi has jumped jumped onto my lap and has made it plain it's snuggle time. Eh well, don't mind having a breather.

Introducing the BLOSSOM DAWG

Edit. It's actually a pretty tasty tree. I thought it'd taste like grass but that was alright.

Cherry blossom and coriander forest weird FLEX but okay:

spoiler

Bees only get a few weeks to enjoy the cherry blossom. But it's the first year both the coriander and cherry are flowering together which is new.

Decided to do a hard reset (basically don't sleep, not even a nap after your last shift) after night shift to get it out of the way, and holy hell am I being reminded why I don't do it this way. I think I can hear and smell colours at this point! Just keep having to remind myself doing it this way means more holiday hours.

[-] Force_majeure122@aussie.zone 9 points 1 year ago

I forgot to buy cheese. Now I'm destined for a cheese-less Wednesday. This is the worst thing to happen to me all September.

[-] SituationCake@aussie.zone 9 points 1 year ago

Oh that is no gouda. You must feel unfettad sadness. No cheer for you.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah tomorrow the carpenter is coming to size up and measure and scurry away to build our massive wraparound built in bookcase with cupboards and a space on top for the felines to reign supreme. We're calling it Catmandu. Not only will boxes upon boxes of books finally be back on shelves, but the cupboards give us space for servingware, which means we can juggle some small appliances and cheesemaking apparatus to free up space in the kitchen for the dishwasher and end His Lordship's never-ending handwashing nightmare. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

As someone who rollerbladed more than walked as a kid, and has played ice hockey for over 10 years, I have found a massive flaw.... namely in that pants these days are FAR TOO NARROW. How the fuck are my tree-trunk legs supposed to get into these skinny jeans?

[-] bull@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago

I've heard rumours that 90's style loose jeans are coming back in style. Bring back grunge! It was the comfiest fashion trend ever.

Easy, get jeans (or chinos) with elastene. Absolute game changers.

I've got tree trunk legs and love the stretchy type pants.

What's a pirate's favourite letter?

[-] just_kitten@aussie.zone 12 points 1 year ago

Not the one from their ISP telling them they've been caught downloading copyrighted material...

Okay, workforce were great to speak to, super helpful. They removed the hold so that is good!

C-link have also sorted out partner's payment so that's fantastic!!

Weirdly, the RE have not responded at all to my email regarding late rent. I dont know what to think about that; but with my and my partner's c-link sorted, my first pay coming on Wednesday from the job, we might actually be able to pay it in full by the end of the week. Just the no response from the RE is a bit odd... ehhhh

Because I saw the pirate joke earlier, here's another.

How much did the pirate pay for his earrings?

A buck-an-ear.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago

Bot #001, where have you been 🀨

[-] Nath@aussie.zone 11 points 1 year ago

It's been sick. Poor thing. I can relate. Some nasty virus is going around.

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago

We ate like pirates tonight. No cutlery necessary with cherry tomatoes, qukes, twiggy sticks, crackers, dips, olives, gherkins. We were savages. Yo ho ho.

So, bros wedding coming up this w/e which I'm excited about.

But it has been dropped on me I'm going to a rehearsal on thursday (I'm not doing anything at the wedding), going out for dins with brides' extended fam friday, and looking after their cat for 10 days apparently from the day after their wedding. It's all good but I've heard all of that second hand and it keeps changing which I'm not impressed about.

Like I understand it's a massive day / moment and it's stressful but this sort of stuff should be communicated not within the week of it happening.

Thank you for listening.

Exercises completed. Excited because I ordered Throw Throw Burrito to go with Throw Throw Avocado and it's coming today supposedly. These are the perfect games for my family! I am also experiencing a new thing at the moment: after all these years of wondering about it, I'm being taught to play chess by the Elder Minipeeler. It's pretty cool. My boy isn't too bad at it, and one of his friends has made it through to the state championships in his age group!

And now for something completely different.. you've heard of snakes on a plane so get ready for..

I took a discrete pic when he wasn't looking (he is at work after all) but I never see a dog on the bus and it made me SO EXCITED (in other words I just smiled bigly!) Have a great day everyone!

Asked for a quote to replace thermocouples on my stove from a gasfitter and he actually recommended replacing with induction instead. Costs of parts are way up apparently.

[-] just_kitten@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

That's pretty good of that gasfitter to give you an honest recommendation. Looks like the tide is turning (although I have a very emotional connection to using a gas stove).

Between shit sleep and it being my final night of work before my mini break, I am climbing the walls so bad! I've just spent the night spinning in my chair, watching five seconds of various films and shows, and munching my way through every little snack I have in boredom. I will be sprinting out that door like an escaped convict in a few hours.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

Doing a big tidy up here. Just trying to put everything away where it belongs.

[-] whatisthislifeilead@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

Ducking out to the pub for a cheeky outdoor pint was great in hindsight but I still have emails to answer booooooooooooo
