The unit was first floated back in 2021 weren’t they? To get protesters away from the pipeline project?
I've definitely heard of RCMP basically being on call to oil corpos in the past.
This is a new unit with special training and equipment. Specifically so that RCMP in general don’t make a mess of such situations.
As far as relationships go, just look at the history of the RCMP and the Hudson’s Bay Company.
