Why is singing the deciding factor? She is a princess in a franchise owned by Disney, is that not enough?
I'd wager some innocent soul thought they were being clever by pointing out what makes a disney princess, and then more innocent souls lapped it up to feel like they're "in the know."
Kairi is a Disney Princess and that was a centerpiece of the plot in her story, but she does not sing as far as I know. Certainly not in the first game where this lore was established.
(she honestly has barely any lines or presence at all, which sucks)

Lego Star Wars Holiday Special is also excellent.
They also winked at the hologram stripper scene in Skeleton Crew (a show that didn't get the attention it deserves, so go watch it if you haven't).
