With a nod to Django Gold.

From this full show, that's also very funny.

It feels like boomer humor but it's really good

Should've followed up "must've been one of those 4D movies, I even felt the bump"

[-] prole 7 points 3 days ago

Sounds like a Ron White joke or something

I have an older car with no backup camera, but I frequently drive my parents' cars which both have backup cameras. Often, when I'm driving my own car, I find myself backing up while staring uselessly at my center console. Haven't heard any screams or crunching noises so far, fingers crossed.

...never hurts to get your hearing checked?

How did I not see that coming?

Because you're blind, not deaf.

I'd rather spend a week fixing my car than spend a week earning enough money to pay the dealer to work on my car.

[-] Fredthefishlord 22 points 3 days ago

I'd rather bike because the repairs are easier, cheaper, and I don't have to pay for gas and insurance

[-] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 days ago

I'd have to pay with my time way too much. 50 minutes by car, 3 hours by bike...

[-] Fredthefishlord 13 points 3 days ago

Ngl even 50 minutes by car is an insane commute to me. My commute is 30-40 by bike.

[-] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 5 points 3 days ago

I know, it sucks but it is what it is with my line of work

Mine is 90 minutes by car each way, but only twice a week.

I bought a used 25 yo hybrid off of Craigslist last November for $50 and I've put 2000 miles on it since then. I just can't believe people spend $10K to $15K on bikes these days, but it's fun to pass those things.

[-] Fredthefishlord 11 points 3 days ago

Yeah. 10 or 15k is wild to me. Got my bike for $210 used and it's served me for 7 ish years now. Winter biking has done a number to it though.

Yeah but wealthy people get to extract money from you when you work and from the workers at the dealer when you pay them so they lock the car down so you can't do that.

Learn about speeduino

[-] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 days ago

Thanks (speeduino) but...all my cars are 35 years old. No data port available.

[-] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

In the U.S., ODB-I was mandated beginning in model year 1988, and ODB-II was mandated for all cars beginning in model year 1996. Technically, California mandated it, but the manufacturers all made their entire U.S. models comply with California rules for easier logistics.

ODB-I had terrible standardization and requires a bunch of model/make specific stuff to properly interface with, but in theory the 35-year old cars do have some kind of data port available.

[-] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

Oops, most of my cars are 1985. more like 40 years old now. I do have a 1989 Ford Ranger but it has some special proprietary data port and when I bought the special reader it wouldn't read. I have to use BRAIN POWER to keep it running.

[-] black_flag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 days ago

Nice, but speeduino can so completely replace the computer of a car it can add the data port to a car without one.

This could be you with speeduino

I mean sure, but there's reasons the owner's manual and service manual are two different pdfs.

Some processes require more knowledge than can easily be described on a page or require specialized tools.

[-] mybuttnolie@sopuli.xyz 26 points 3 days ago

idk why people need cameras and sensors that beep when something's close, for me the thump and/or scream is enough

[-] sem 1 points 2 days ago

For me the thump and scream means they're not close any more, but touching.

*Butt touching

They are actually planning on making us watch an add , in order to use the backup camera.... Coming soon

[-] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 25 points 3 days ago

Let's see those ads pop up while test driving with a salesman LOL

[-] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago

gets car accident lawyer ad after collision is detected

[-] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

Oh fuck that's dystopian enough that I'm sure it'll happen

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

No no they're not that stupid

It would be disabled at the dealership. When you go to select your options you can opt for the monthly or yearly ad-free plan. Or if you really want a good value you can get the lifetime* ad-free plan for just $3000.

If you don't go for those only then will the ads be enabled - but don't worry you can always download the app and start your subscription. (But it will be more expensive than it would've been if you signed up when you bought it. Why not just do it from the start?)

*(of the car)

I love the cars which only have the must have versions of modern tech. You usually get them in like budget oriented cars from a few years back. Has a parking radar but it only beeps and doesnt have cameras. Has the anti tailgate brake thingy without a bunch of other gizmos. Pretty sure you can also retrofit cars with these if youre into some diy, they actually help you with driving/parking without distracting you.
