“Charged with supporting” RIP democracy.

Palestine Action was banned after they breached a UK military base

Free Speech is important. But what they did isn't free speech.

Neither is it terrorism by any rational definition of the word.

That's a crime for the people who broke into a base, not a reason to ban an entire organization. Lots of activist organizations have had members do illegal things. If that's all it takes for the government to ban them, that's an easy bar to manufacture and/or selectively activate.

Funny because based on that they should ban Israel because their leader are committing act of war crimes and terrorism

Their lawyer can appeal the decision in court.

We're on a message board giving our opinions. You're happy to definitively say what is and isn't free speech then come back with a dumb response about how the court will decide whether a contradictory opinion is valid. I'm not talking to the UK courts. I'm stating a principle, which is already being violated by this anti-free speech government. Law does not determine correctness.

Supporting what they did is free speech. That's the whole damn point of free speech and it's legitimately insane that in the UK the government just gets to arrest you for that.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

For trying to stop a genocide that the uk is complicit with.

[-] Davriellelouna@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If you start breaking into military bases to target jets, consider yourself lucky you don't get shot.

[-] renamon_silver@lemmy.wtf 5 points 22 hours ago

cOnSiDeR yourself lucky you don't get shot while hindering genocide...

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Those people know the risks still do it for morality and again the uk is participating in a genocide if the uk do not respect international laws why do you expect people to respect uk laws

[-] Davriellelouna@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If you think the Government is breaking the law, the solution isn't breaking the law.

In Britain, you can sue the Government if you think the government is breaking the law.

https://dpglaw.co.uk/uk-arms-exports-to-israel-high-court-judgment/

Also, what country do you think is respecting international law? Should citizens of all countries start attacking military bases? How does that end?

[-] Sidhean@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Should citizens of all countries start attacking military bases?

sure

How does that end?

better world, probably.

Quick, arrest her too! ~She turned me into a newt!~

I'm totally against the proscription, but the individual idiots who broke into the base vandalised 2 air tankers with no link to Palestine, but would provide a critical role in the event Russia decided to threaten the UK with nuclear subs.

It was such a dumb move, it's hard to believe it wasn't a Russian op using PA as cover.
