Let's talk whiskers (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 10 months ago by martine@sh.itjust.works to c/cat@lemmy.world

Show me some whiskers! Cheek whiskers, eyebrow whiskers, the little whiskers on the backs of their front legs. Whiskers that are very l o o o n g and silly little stubby whiskers. White whiskers, black whiskers, those whiskers that are half and half. Does your kitty have all white whiskers except for one black one or vice versa? Has your idiot child ever learned a whisker-related lesson about candles? Do you collect whiskers when they shed? (Lemme see your collection!)

Tweek’s long white whiskers

Luscious whiskers compliments of a wood burning stove free house. They used to all be short and curly :)

Outstanding whiskers right there

A while ago when the neighbours were cleaning their windows.

That is very definitely the pose of a cat about to do something stupid

Aww, poor wee guy. Well at least he seems ready for danger

I love when they're interested in something and the lil whiskers perk forward :')

Oliver is a dramatic boy and has dramatic whiskers. The longest whisker I've ever found from him was 5 1/4" long. I collect them, obviously.

And here is a twitchy whisker video.

I know right?? Whenever he's in a really deep sleep he nurses like that and it makes me wanna cry. First of all because it's just objectively cute. But also because he was taken from his mom at only 2 weeks old, so I think he's dreaming of her 😭

Kitten tax

Alaric's whiskers are as pitch-black as the rest of him is, so they do not show up well in photos unless they happen to catch the sunlight or have a light background behind them. He was already an older boy when I adopted him, so I think if he ever did learn anything the hard way he did it long ago. Candles are just about the one thing he doesn't sniff to investigate, fortunately. I think the worst experience he has given himself with his whiskers since I got him was the time that he woke me up because his whiskers tickled my nose. I wound up sneezing directly in the poor guy's face

I have never thought to collect shed whiskers before. What do you do with them?

[-] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

You keep them in a small decorative box. And you say, "This is my whisker box. I put whiskers in it." Then you have whiskers, in a box.

[-] martine@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

Yep. I keep mine in a teeny jar that used to hold watch parts. It's my whisker jar.

I repurposed a pharmacy pill bottle. I'm afraid of dropping a nicer container when I'm depositing new whiskers, sending all the whiskers flying. So, little plastic tube with a lid. Thanks, anxiety. 🙄

I have mine on a little knickknack shelf, but I affixed it with poster tack because I'm afraid of the same 😅

Sneezing directly into your cat's face is a nice role reversal

Cat didn't seem to mind camouflaging into the kids chalk artwork. She did mind though me having to clean her afterwards.

Curled whiskers to match the curled feet, 10/10 no notes

[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Look at her little boots! I love her

My little girl has a weird whisker that grows out of the side of her nose (my sister has a matching one but I won't post that).

Here are some bonus keyboard whiskers

We do collect but unfortunately am away from home and don't have any photos.

Yessss ya freak! How many cats do you have and how long have you had them? That's a hefty collection!

[-] titter@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

3 @ 4years old and 1 @ roughly 8. The collection wasn't always ongoing but that bag is about 5-6 years old

[-] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

I have a collection of whiskers from a number of cats we've had.

I REALLY want a black one from my brother's orange kitty, but he hasn't shed one that I've found yet :(

this is such a funny photo of them by the way lmao
