The agency responsible for carrying out Donald Trump’s mass deportations is launching a recruiting campaign to entice “brave and heroic Americans” to serve as new deportation officers, lawyers and investigators as the government gears up for a major expansion of immigration enforcement thanks to a recent infusion of money from Congress. The icing on the cake: a promise of up to $50,000 in signing bonuses.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement campaign, which rolled out late Tuesday, recalls recruiting posters from the second world war with images of Uncle Sam and the words “AMERICA NEEDS YOU.” There also are photos of the US president and top homeland security officials with the words “DEFEND THE HOMELAND” across the images.

In addition to appealing to prospective applicants’ patriotic fervor, homeland security is making a pocketbook pitch. The agency is promising up to $50,000 in signing bonuses, the potential for lots of overtime for deportation officers and other benefits such as loan repayment or forgiveness options.

We apparently have all kinds of money to dump into domestic terrorism but we ain't got shit when it comes to healthcare, education, climate action, infrastructure, emergency planning/prevention...

Rich people need poor white people distracted by culture wars.

If the US government would have paid for teachers what they pay for their American GeStaPo, you probably would not have that Nazi problem in the US.

I have been out of work for two years. There's a ton of us. This is a plot to get guys like me to jump at the money and sell our souls.

I'll keep my soul. I need that more than ever with that illegitimate administration. They can stuff their jobs.

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 19 points 3 days ago

The Nazi party of Germany did it. Even alleviated men of their child support responsibilities.

These guys are making as much or more than I do. They got a giant ass budget for nothing that currently exists. They know what they are doing. They're probably hoping to recruit a lot of former military.

After this, the Nazi party pretty much mandated that professional positions required party membership. Plenty of professors, for instance, refused, and received cuts in pay and demotions. I like to believe those policies indirectly helped the Allies win by slowing the various weapon programs.

Never count out sabotage. Especially if they're stupid and the 50k is awarded at signing or with the e first check.

[-] thedruid@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Those bonuses come with terms that require repayment to prevent that.

[-] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 days ago

Yes usually. But these people are both stupid and corrupt. Someone should make sure. For science... And the ammusment of others.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 32 points 3 days ago

Can't pay for school or healthcare, but lots of money for KKK 2.0!

spend 4 years in college, get certified, start teaching children, get yelled at by parents and principals for giving a student who was on their phone for the whole class a C, make $45,000/year

play apex legends in the basement shouting racial slurs and eating cheetos for 2 years, get a $50,000 signing bonus on top of a $80,000 salary

Guess which one is more likely to be shot and killed at their job?

spoilerIt's not the one who has a gun

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 30 points 3 days ago

"Brave and heroic"

Is that why they show up in packs wearing masks to kidnap children?

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 5 points 3 days ago

I thought it was cuz they're ugly

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

You too can find yourself in prison once the current regime falls! Remember to think up an alabi for what you spent the 20's doing, otherwise you will be shamed for the rest of your life.

[-] magic_smoke 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Can I join for the bonus and leave immediately before my first shift?

[-] HuskerNation@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

No, as Dave Anthony says, we need to start getting moles in the system.

[-] magic_smoke 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Sweety I just got uppies on my e dose, and at best it'll be winter until I won't be able to really boymode anymore, so I don't think that's gonna work out.

Actually kinda spooked by the idea, though itll be worth it I think.

[-] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Operation South Park: Richard Gere.

[-] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

I like your attitude.

[-] Guidy@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago

Oh good more “heroes” to “save us” from a bunch of poor people busting their asses to do jobs the rest of us cannot afford to do.

I’m going to keep calling them gestapo. There’s nothing patriotic about them.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

Think of all the good that $50,000 could have done

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It’s tempting to join and be sand in the gears, but the job is so immoral that I’d have to be a big ass rock in the gears. Sand isn’t immediately enough.

[-] BaroqueBobby@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

The dredge of society is about to come out. Be safe everybody

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 days ago

It's too bad I have a sense of ethics, or I could get paid.

[-] BigPotato@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Get paid, then don't do your job. Best of both worlds.

[-] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 4 points 2 days ago

yea, sign up and then stand in the way subtly for as long as you can

[-] ReiRose@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Take them down from the inside

[-] carlossurf@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

Lol they end up wasting more money going after them then if they just left them alone

[-] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

The point is they don't want brown people to exist.

[-] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

There's always money for bombs and cops

[-] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Ain’t no possibility of this going sideways is there? I’m slightly relieved that they’ll hire any goon with pulse and not have a well trained & disciplined army with an allegiance to an order. Just a bunch temu brand , god army believers with their wal mart issue tactical gear and that’s after a nap because that Waffle House meal is so good. Christian Nationalism needs a serious curb stomping. That is metaphor by the way. I’d never dirty my shoes with that foul faux Christian blood. Ewww.
