I used to drink half a litre of strong moka. Now I drink instant and feel extremely terrible

When I was in school, I worked in a coffee shop and I'd down espresso shots/drinks until closing and then jump in the bed.

Twenty years later, I have a cup a few times a week and if I have much more I start to get wired feeling, or have trouble sleeping that night.

I've read that's part of getting older, caffeine just hits a bit harder.

All drugs should be legal and regulated

I used to drink one pint of coffee per day. Now I drink none and I feel so much better.

Thats all I’ve ever had. I work outdoors so that cup I brew before I leave the house is it.

You could, I don't know, just drink decaf if you like the flavour.

[-] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

That would just make to much sense.

[-] Zizzy 3 points 6 days ago

Thats exactly what I did. Just makes sense. Love coffee, but dont wanna destroy myself with so much caffeine.

[-] Crazyslinkz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

That's kind of what I do. I make 2 scoops of decaf and 1 scoop caf. Makes half a pot, enough caffeine to prevent jitters.

I never understood why anyone would want to drink coffee to begin with. It tastes like burnt dirt.

[-] mateofeo85@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Your face tastes like burnt dirt.

[-] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

It might, why are you tasting my face?

Most people won't like coffee the first time. Most people won't like beer the first time either. Many will continue to not like one or both of those things, but many will acquire a taste for one or the other after they've have enough goes on it.

For me, personally, I would have agreed with you once upon a time when it came to drinking coffee, but I was always a bit weird in that I like coffee flavoured ice cream as a kid. (And also the coffee flavoured chocolates in the Cadbury's Roses and the packets of Revels, when they used to be a thing.) And I guess coffee with a load of milk and sugar was a gateway to coffee with a load of milk, which was a gateway to coffee with maybe just a little bit of milk or a little bit of sugar to take the edge off the bitterness.

Each to their own, I really love the taste of good coffee that is well made.

[-] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

I wont yuck your yum, I know a lot of people who like it but no one will ever convince me it tastes good.

[-] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago

No one tried to convince you? The “don’t drink coffee” option is always available to you

[-] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 15 points 1 week ago

Coffee has a huge range of flavour from floral, light and almost tea-like to the over-roasted, poorly brewed and left-on-a-heater-to-boil gas station coffee it sounds like you describe.

[-] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Silly me of course there is dirt flavor, dirt with cream in it flavor, hot garbage water flavor, ass juice flavor....... I could go on.

But seriously no, it just tastes like shit. Just because you stockholm syndromed yourself into believing it tastes good does not make it taste good.

Junkers_Klunker wasn't trying to tell me that I would totally love dirt water if I just tried the right brand. They just respectfully pointed out that they like it and respected that I don't. Thats why I won't yuck their yum.

It's not really the taste it's the sheer bombardment of caffeine to the frontal lobe

[-] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

I can see that that "panic" feeling of all that caffeine being unbearable, I tend to avoid most things with caffine these days simply because I avoid things with sugar and coffee is just yuck. since caffine is usually found with one of those 2 things along for the ride i have become quite sensitive to it as well.

[-] peregrin5@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

that doesn't explain people who only drink decaf

[-] Quadhammer@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Decaf still has caffeine in it
