I tried looking this up but found nothing about this. Can you link a source?

It's going to mostly affect red states, which is the chef's kiss to their stupidity

How is this not blatantly illegal? How can anybody with a brain not understand the massive problems this is going to cause?

There's your answer

I would not be surprised if news about hurricanes hitting are suppressed in national media, and social media gets censored for any mention of problems. The narrative and optics are much more important for them than victims and damages.

The cruelty is the point.

Why does legality matter? Laws are set by the government, why do you expect a fascist one to be beholden to them?

What problems? (no problems since there is no monitoring, right)

Well that's horrible news that will affect everyone.

So, no saildrones to monitor surface conditions, and now no realtime satellites. We have to rely on Japan to get those images.

The knockout punch will be when they don't allow NOAA to fly the hurricane hunters.

There are still a couple satellites operated by Canada and the EU that provide hurricane data to the US...until something fucks that up too, I guess.

It's the Hurricane Surprise Season from now on.

No forecasts, no evac orders (which politicians hate, anyway, and a lot of people simply ignore).
