I feel like I’d allow this in a kid’s room. It’s fully behind the door so I don’t have to look at it and it’s their space.

Ultimately, it’s less destructive to the house than the missing door stopper.

[-] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 37 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. At a certain age where they're not just finger painting randomness anymore, why not let a kid run wild with their room. It's not the end of the world if you need to re-paint the walls if you need to move.

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

It's a hollow core door, it's mostly paper anyway.

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 13 points 2 weeks ago

"I'm empty inside, but I still work."

I know, door. Me too...

[-] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 11 points 2 weeks ago

I'd allow or even encourage something like this but ideally only on the wall and not covering the door plus not with crayons or marker since those can be a pain to paint over. But other than that I agree, why not? It's a way for them to incorporate their own design ideas into their living space.

Love the name lmfao

[-] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 53 points 2 weeks ago

You're damn right I'm okay with it.

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I might even commission this artist.

[-] the_q@lemm.ee 45 points 2 weeks ago

If I had a kid and they did this I'd take them out to buy them more art supplies.

[-] TheSlad@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago

Heck i'd get enough for me too and join her!

[-] caboose2006@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

Honestly if they're not doing damage have at it. We're painting this room before we move out anyway.

[-] Newsteinleo@midwest.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

would also get some varnish and save that for all posterity.

[-] cynar@lemmy.world 37 points 2 weeks ago

You can spot the parents here.

They are expressing themselves, having fun, and off the iPad. They even put it where I don't have to see it too often. I'll call it a win.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Yep, this is how Michelangelo started, painting his bedroom walls. One day, it's the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Well, that's been done, but maybe the food court ceiling at the mall.

[-] baines@lemmy.cafe 4 points 2 weeks ago

what’s a mall food court grandpa?

[-] DogWater@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Not really, my parents would've crucified me for this lol

I think it is correct to let a child do something like this in their own space, but I'm not a parent lol

And like I said, my parents who, if you can believe this, are parents, would've killed me.

[-] cynar@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

I think it's a bit of a generational thing. The internet has given us access to a lot more reliable information. Far more parents have learnt the difference between what's effective and what feels good. Yelling feels good, it doesn't actually work very well. Rolling with it, followed by a calm discussion gets far better results. Achieving this mentality is another matter, but using it as a goal helps moderate your reaction.

[-] DogWater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

100% agree with this.

[-] Lazycog@sopuli.xyz 29 points 2 weeks ago

Missing the pop-tart body, otherwise we could have had a wild Nyan Moose

[-] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

I thought Nyan cat translated to cat cat?

*Looks up Japanese for moose

What we have here is a Mūsu Moose!

[-] corvi@lemm.ee 19 points 2 weeks ago

Close. Nyan, or nya, is the equivalent of meow. So you need whatever sound a Japanese moose makes.

[-] hungprocess@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 2 weeks ago

I believe the sound is 「おい、ロッキー、僕が帽子からウサギを出すところを見てよ!」

(Ah yes, my finest work: a joke in a language I don't speak well about a 65+ year old show most folks here probably haven't watched. 😅)

[-] wieson@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

えっき えっき ぷてん ずうむ ぼいん にんうれ

[-] hungprocess@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Now I want to try watching Holy Grail in Japanese.

[-] grysbok@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

I know some of those characters! 🥰 (I'm on the "N" column in my hiragana learning app)

[-] Lazycog@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 weeks ago

I didn't know this. Mūsu Moose sounds even better! Mūsu Moose it is!

[-] eatsumbum@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

I'm okay with it. Pretty great actually.

[-] moakley@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I'd probably leave that up for a few years. I have trouble throwing away any of her artwork.

[-] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 20 points 2 weeks ago

Eh. My opinion on this is "Your room, your walls." Unless the kid decides to start drilling holes or otherwise destroying the wall, it's fine. It can be painted over later on.

Or, it may be a good opportunity for washable paint.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Yup. Go for it, kid. And the best part is you can drag out the rainbow farting moose any time a childhood story is needed to mildly embarrass and laugh with your kid.

[-] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

At least she got the colors in the right order!

[-] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 weeks ago

this is the artwork of the century.

[-] tasankovasara@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 weeks ago

Nice styles, lucky she's good :D

[-] AgentOrangesicle@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

We had an art wall. You need an art wall.

[-] Goretantath@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Fuck it, let it stand. Just tell her not to do it anywhere but her own room.

[-] stringere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Isn't 10 a little old to be coloring on walls? My kids stopped doing that by 6. Not trying to say I'm some kind of super dad, I'm far from perfect, but 10 seems a little old to still be coloring on walls.

[-] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 4 points 2 weeks ago

I was definitely still drawing/writing on my walls in high school, and I'm not even "artsy".
