So-called "puff" devices generate habits among young people that can lead to tobacco addiction, she added.

However, the government does not plan to raise taxes on tobacco next year after an increase this year, the prime minister said.

Just ban them for the insane waste they generate. Entire batteries just being tossed in the street. How are these legal anywhere is beyond me

[-] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 41 points 1 year ago

Yup. Canada banned RTAs/RDAs (because 1 child died in the US in 2003 iirc) but allow the garbage dump-filling disposables ... then scream bloody murder about how kids are using them.

Well duh. Bring back the rebuildables and few kids will have the money to spend and/or the drive to learn how to build coils, maintain the mod, etc.

[-] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Even just refillable tanks or pods. I have a pod based one, they last ages, refill when I need. Battery is rechargeable etc. None of the alleged “risks” of RDAs etc. As reusable as possible rather than this huge waste we have

[-] ZambiblasianOgre@lemmy.world 55 points 1 year ago

Please bring this rule everywhere. These things are a public nuisance and horriblly pollutant.

[-] VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 year ago

They are built with rechargable lithium battery and go straight to trash ! Verry bad for pollution and garbage fire risk!

[-] vinceman 3 points 1 year ago

So you would rather people smoke cigarettes?

[-] arefx@lemmy.ml 31 points 1 year ago

I would rather they use reusable vape batteries you fill with juice.

[-] vinceman 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not allowed to in my country.

[-] arefx@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Australia? Vote for better politicians.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

Tobacco lobbies?

[-] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 year ago

No. I would rather people use mods with RTAs or RDAs, which are rebuildable (the R).

[-] vinceman 5 points 1 year ago

Illegal in my country, cannot access.

[-] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

At least birds can make fucked up little disease nests with cigarette filters so not complete waste! /s

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Someone once told me- I don't know if it's true- that opossums and raccoons get hit by cars so often because they get addicted to cigarettes by eating cigarette butts dropped on the side of the road.

[-] arefx@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

That sounds a bit far fetched. I think they get hit because they need to cross the road.

Why is the dichotomy "burn tobacco" / "throw lithium in a landfill"?

[-] vinceman 1 points 1 year ago

Again, I'm not throwing any lithium into a landfill.

[-] FfaerieOxide@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

The people who used these DISPOSABLE e-cigarettes as directed sure do.

If you already use reusable batteries what do you care if disposable batteries get banned?

[-] vinceman 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not saying the batteries I'm currently using are reusable, I have just made sure nothing has gone to a landfill.

[-] FfaerieOxide@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

What problem do you have with making sure no one puts the batteries into a landfill?

[-] dojan@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

I actually didn't know disposable e-cigarettes were a thing? Isn't the appeal of e-cigarettes that they're reusable?

[-] ZILtoid1991@kbin.social 15 points 1 year ago

Conveinance is a hell of a drug. Just like nicotine.

[-] nero@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

90% of the people that vape here (netherlands) use disposable ones, i think i’ve seen like 3 people with reusable vapes

[-] dojan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

To be fair I avoid people so it’s no wonder I’ve not seen any.

[-] vinceman 18 points 1 year ago

All you people saying good can get fucked. Every government across the board has done more in the last 10 years to ban vaping, make it harder to access, take away forms of it, people are forced to buy disposables because that's literally all they can access. Fuck me I'll be back smoking in a few years, because I need a fucking escape and they'll have banned vaping completely because THINK OF THE CHILDERN.

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 1 year ago

This is extremely good… disposables are horrid for the environment and vape worse than other inexpensive vaporizers with replaceable coils and rechargeable batteries. Disposable vapes should never have existed. They’re pointless.

[-] Luckybuck@ttrpg.network 8 points 1 year ago

Hey man, I just gave it up myself this past January with that Allen carr how to stop smoking book. It worked well for me. Maybe you should grab it off library genesis or something. Your overall happiness will increase without spamming that dopamine button multiple times a day.

[-] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 year ago

I spent a good portion of the late 90's trying to quit cigarettes .... tore up cartons of smokes, swore up and down I'd quit, and it never worked. For me it was easier to quit drinking (I had a problem with that too) than to quit smoking. Started vaping in 2015 instead.

Not everyone can quit.

Just saying.

[-] vinceman 5 points 1 year ago

I have 0 want to stop a nicotine addiction, which is why I vape. I'm an adult who can make adult choices, if I wanted to quit I would.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

If you're using a refillable/rechargeable then don't let anyone tell you any different.

[-] balls_expert 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

?? We can buy regular vapes in France so this is good

[-] FfaerieOxide@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Are you sure throwing away lithium isn't ...god what is that word?

it's that thing, where something... guAAH tipofmytounge

BAD!

That's it. Are sure sure throwing away lithium isn't bad?

[-] vinceman 1 points 1 year ago

I haven't thrown away any lithium, and lots of people I know are the same are way, looking for a way to get it into the recycling chain.

[-] FfaerieOxide@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

So what do you care if something you don't do (and seem to agree is bad) gets banned?
