Would be kind to explain why not to say that.

[-] ickplant@lemmy.world 80 points 2 weeks ago

Totally agree with you there. I’d like to believe he did next time they talked.

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 58 points 2 weeks ago

it's like how every so often you have to tell someone referring to the final design for a software project as "the final solution" is probably not the best phrasing

[-] j5906@feddit.org 37 points 2 weeks ago

In my first practical chemistry course I referred to a container filled with gas as "gas chamber", to make things worse I am german...

[-] atomicorange@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Could have been worse, “gashole” doesn’t have the same ring.

help, i've fallen into an icehole! a big hairy icehole!

[-] Kualdir@feddit.nl 9 points 2 weeks ago

Wait I need to know why, I actually don't get that

Did not see that coming. I just assumed like in engineering, its never the actual final. Thats how you end up with file names like project_rev2.6_final_ver6

Edit: or this gem of an easter egg from paw patrol

Final_final.mov

Probably, I assume they were just tired and wanted to sleep at that point though.

I'm such a cynical skeptic so when I see such back and forths I tend to assume they're fake. It maybe not? But it ends up being worded in a way that's funny to post as an image, but doesn't feel like a real conversation.

It means the same thing as sticking your chopsticks in the rice so they stand up, or as pouring a couple of drops of your alcohol on the ground.

It's universal. You just have to find the local way of expressing it.

Y'know, it does sound like something sweet to wish upon someone if it did not literally mean death. I can imagine someone who doesn't have the linguistic & cultural connection with The West to wish something like that upon someone in a heartfelt manner.

[-] ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

And water boarding in Guantanamo Bay sounds fun.

[-] Iron_Lynx@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

In a similar context, yep

[-] pancakes@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago

To be fair, it is something sweet to wish upon someone. It's just the context is that person has to be dead.

[-] 2xsaiko@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 2 weeks ago

Holy shit. I need to start saying this

[-] Jerb322@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

"Have a nice dirt nap."

[-] gargolito@lemm.ee 13 points 2 weeks ago

To be fair, it makes more sense to say it to the living.
