F YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just had a knock on the door and the police handed me back my mower and whipper snipper plus a 6ah and 5ah battery. Thats the bulk of my replacement costs there! all appears to be working as well. Still short a few tools and batteries, but police know who did it they are just trying to find him.

[-] Catfish@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Wow! That isn't usual.

[-] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Shit that's lucky!

[-] just_kitten@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

The police actually followed up! With that kind of luck you might have to buy a lotto ticket

[-] Duenan@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Wow, I have to be honest, I didn't expect that to happen. That's awesome!

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago

Lol the police did some actual small crime policing! That's awesome you got those back!! ๐Ÿ’œ

Nah sorry gotta push back on that. From my experience with them they've been nothing but prompt and professional! I understand that maybe not everyones experiences, but my own in this instance has been pretty great considering the circumstances.

Hey @briongloid@aussie.zone we're in May not March. I blame Yarrabyte for not turning up today.

I wonder if the emoji could be moved somewhere other than between the day and the month, too ;)

Why is going to Chemist Warehouse such a stressful experience? Narrow isles with too many people, long waits for prescriptions and then waiting in a line to collect them. Then another line to pay. Or maybe my local is just a bad one. This place is a time suck.

Yeah, someone else offered an explanation that made more sense and I think I was definitely wrong on the internet. Which is annoying because normally Iโ€™m the one being really picky about sources and reading comprehension.

All I can say is that I havenโ€™t been sleeping and have been vomiting today. The past few days have been rough so I wasnโ€™t thinking too clearly when trying to get something that seemed important out there.

Also Iโ€™m a bit defensive (when normally more chill) because others (not on Lemmy) have been stirring me up. ๐Ÿ˜‘

Just noticed today that La Trobe St outside State Library Station is now clear for eastbound traffic, definitely a sign we're getting much closer to opening the munnel. They've also laid brand new cobblestone in a side street which is pretty cool.

I have now officially spent a small fortune on stuff for the new place. A fair bit of it is stuff that needed to be replaced anyway, and some of it is just because I want the place to look nice. It's been a bit tricky to work out how to place all the furniture, but I think I've got a layout that will work (pending measurement for a couple of things). It's a fairly square lounge/dining area, with foot traffic that will cross somewhat diagonally from the rest of the house to the door to the back yard. I'm not sure it would be possible to get a decent layout if you had a tv. A big couch or dining table would also be tricky.

The biggest purchase is a (very small) dining table and a couple of chairs. I spent nearly as much on new furniture for Miss Meow too - I had been planning to recover the tree she currently has as the frame is good, but it's not really going to fit in the new place. So now instead of one big corner unit she will have two smaller units and a window hammock. I also bought a couple of pink fluffy footstools that look like her cat bed on legs that I expect she will use for snoozing.

I've also bought lots of dull but necessary things - new doormats, drawer and shelf liners, suction cup shelves for the bathroom, felted end caps for all the furniture to stop it scuffing the hard floor. I also upgraded my mop and bucket as the main living area is all hard floor.

Edit: Miss Meow is going to have a little garden themed corner, including a

banana tree

surrounded by fallen leaves

with a flower themed climbing frame

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

You do realise that Miss Meow will ignore all these facilities, and seek out your best angora sweater to sleep on instead.

Dammit dammit dammit.

Was so tired the glass lid of my double walled coffee cup slipped out of my hands and shattered.

So devastated about it and I have no replacement for it.

Not sure if anyoneโ€™s interested in looking at this.

Iโ€™ve been playing Expedition 33 and just beat a tough optional boss. Itโ€™s a new rpg with an outstanding soundtrack & vision and needs some good reflexes.

Itโ€™s in 2 parts because I had to take a phone call.

Have fun if you decide to have a look at it.

My tooth broke yesterday while I was eating lunch, so now Iโ€™ve got a toothache and dentistโ€™s appt. Hopefully itโ€™s just part of the crown and can be re-glued. The tooth also has a big filling so Iโ€™m a bit worried theyโ€™ll suggest pulling it out

Pub on main drag. Very good counter lunch the last time I went there. Some interesting menu items as well as the usual.

Ah man, Iโ€™m getting nitpicked over a news title when the site wouldnโ€™t offer a suggested one for the link.

Like damn dudes, I donโ€™t perfectly understand something that doesnโ€™t apply to me. But I do know a law changing that could invalidate a lot of drivers licenses overnight might be something people should know about?

If I made a small mistake they can go read the article that will tell them the exact info.

[-] dumblederp@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago

Lemmy overall has a bunch of nitpicky nerds who'll go overboard on any error they find.

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago

Imagine going through life looking at everything to try to find the imperfections. Life must really suck for those people. There is enough bad stuff in the world without giong out of your way looking for more.

I wouldn't worry about their nitpicking - let them make their own life worse with their obsessive search for flaws, leave them to it and don't let them drag you down.

Looking for recommendations on both power tools and security cameras. My tools were Ryobi which I liked their reciprocating saw and blower but the mower wasn't great. I had a good experience with Ozito multitool, and been told apparently bunnings will take them back no questions asked. Open to any recommendations but budgets gonna be fairly tight since i'm starting over and want to spend money on cameras. On that note: Anyone had any installed? Things they liked, things they don't or installers that were good to work with?

[-] useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

I think I have used every power tool brand and usually go with Makita due to the consistency, durability, great batteries and a vast range of power tools on offer. (even coffee makers and microwaves haha!)

They are are a little more expensive though so maybe not a good choice for you.?

Ryobi is probably your best bet as it is an affordable option for DIY. I have used Ryobi in a professional setting as well and the only drawback is the battery life isnโ€™t great so more batteries are required to keep going on jobs. (if you are worried about the lawnmower, I would suggest a good petrol power Honda or Victa anyway.)

Also check out Metabo (formerly Hitachi) they are priced competitively, durable and have a flexi volt system in which you can run them corded or on just batteries. I own a couple of their drills and they have served me well.

Hope that helps.

I've figured out how people make those fancy designed emails that all look like one image (Figma and the snip tool to break it up into parts).

Does anyone know some good resources on graphic design so I can actually make decent looking designs?

I don't know any graphic design theory and everything I do just looks too bland or busy. I know how to use the tools, now I need to know how to make them look good.

Nooo, the thunder thighs have struck again and worn through another pair of jeans - my favourite ones at that! But they've outlasted quite a few, so I'll still take it as a win.

It's a clear sign that I've lived too long away from this place that I look like a lost and bumbling tourist at the wet market. Doesn't help that I'm brandishing my own bags and containers like my mum does but the stallholders don't recognise me so I have to explain and stop them from giving me new bags.

Anyway, fresh you tiao!!! ๐Ÿ˜‹ ๐Ÿ˜‹ ๐Ÿ˜‹
