Meh...not really...most of us are stuck in the rat race or dying in state buildings. Don't have time to fight gotta pay bills.

[-] Patrikvo@lemmy.world 27 points 6 days ago

Maybe the future brings Madmax style roving gangs, but you're still expected to be at the office by 8.30.

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

Where do people get the money to stock up on guns? They are friggin expensive.

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 1 points 3 days ago

Not really... You can get a cheap pistol or a shotgun for $200-$300, solid reliable handguns start at ~$450 and you can get a military grade rifle for $800

It's not nothing, but it's the same price range as most phones - if you want the fancy one with brand recognition you'll pay twice as much, but you can get quality pretty cheap if you do your research

[-] Leeks@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

You can get a shotgun for less then $100.

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago

You probably should plan to spend more then twice what the gun is worth. Ammo to train, ammo to have, extra mag or two.

[-] schizo@forum.uncomfortable.business 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

At least: I'm probably at 5x what the guns cost in training, ammo, gear, range fees, gas to and from the range (live in a city, so most local ranges don't exactly let you shoot 5.56) and so on.

Not the cheapest hobby if you're planning on actually serious about being able to use your guns if something makes that necessary.

The people's gun!

[-] Necroscope0@lemm.ee 2 points 4 days ago

What are you not American? They do not give you a rifle and a crate of ammo for your 18th birthday?

[-] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 5 points 6 days ago

There are a plethora of affordable options that are cheaper than a console or a nintendo switch nowadays.

Hi-points aren't fancy, but they're reliable and cheap, you can pick up a 9mm pistol for around $200 or less.

Farther up you've got PSA, where you could pick up a Dagger (glock clone) for $300 and an AR-15 for $399.

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Again where are people getting that sort of money?

[-] malo@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago
[-] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

My question was rhetorical. The point is that many people have very poor financial decision making skills.

You can’t 3d print entire (functional) guns, and the materials that you need to print the parts that you can are expensive as hell. You’ll end up spending more.

sure are some fucking gross conversations going on in here

all op posts is Billionaire rag propaganda

have you considered that maybe posting this propaganda sucks?

[-] return2ozma@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

What's the point you're trying to make?

[-] VagueAnodyneComments 1 points 4 days ago

all you seem to post is what rich people want to say, and it brings down the vibe

[-] ProfHillbilly@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago

the prepared citizen movement-----------------------Not around here in WNC. All the nuts have the guns and the people who I have talked to about getting armed and trained don't want a gun. They are the ones who should be preparing.

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

They don't have to get a gun, they could get a pike and a trebuchet.

[-] ThorrJo@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 6 days ago

Although purported interest has never been higher, all the soft white libs I know are still deep in their full-of-shit phase and not doing a single fucking thing to prepare. It's only the far leftists and people in the center that are on the uptake thus far from my vantage point.

[-] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Read the article and everyone in those massive communities that train firearms and survivalism are Republicans.

None of you lefty/Democrats reading this comment own guns or are interested in training in large communities, so these Republicans will wipe you off the map when Orange fascism takes complete control. Prove me wrong, link me your large lefty gun group.

[-] AllPintsNorth@lemm.ee 36 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

We don’t feel the need to broadcast it, or make it part of our personality.

But don’t equate that to not knowing how to use or not owning them.

[-] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

I'm a left-leaning gun owner, and I don't buy that. "We're ready and organized...but we're a super secret dark brotherhood so we can't show you!" does not inspire confidence.

For every one of us there are probably 6-12 MAGA zealots by my estimation (vibes-based, admittedly).

Fuck off fed

[-] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

No, I'm being serious, I want to join one nearby because I'm surrounded by dipshit MAGA Republicans that talk like you.

[-] Throbbing_banjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 6 days ago

Sure thing officer! Here's our addresses, my social security number, and a photo of us all holding guns together.

Thanks for your service!

[-] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

We have backtraced your IP, took a look at your browsing history and decided we would rather not 🕵‍♂️

[-] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It's gonna be cops/military murdering us as usual.

Who do you think is currently kidnapping and disappearing people?

Maga chuds won't even need to get out of bed.

[-] Greg@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 days ago

I’m left in Canada which is the US equivalent of a more left leaning Bernie Sanders. I’m a veteran, I have a rifle, and I support increased gun controls. Granted my rifle is hot pink so it’s not exactly combat ready.

[-] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 3 points 6 days ago

Greg, please keep a round loaded at all times, and continue training with it. Your lower neighbors are being dumb and it may slink its way up.

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

LOL I love this idea that some men with guns can stand up to some dude in a mountain flying a drone.

[-] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 2 points 5 days ago

Thank you, General Armchair. Do you have any more insightful tactical advice that you learned from your gamer chats that you can share over Signal with us?

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I know that you feel insecure. I see you. It’s ok, but you can get through life without lashing out.

I wish the NY Times found a different group to highlight. These guys seem like they found an opportunity to make a buck. Surely there are other groups that are more organized and not trying to sell trinkets.
