I just played a round of Golf with Alexander Stubb, President of Finland. He is a very good player, and we won the Men’s Member-Guest Golf Tournament at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach County, with the Legendary Gary Player, Senator Lindsey Graham, and former Congressman and highly successful Television Host, Trey Gowdy.

“President Stubb and I look forward to strengthening the partnership between the United States and Finland, and that includes the purchase and development of a large number of badly needed Icebreakers for the U.S., delivering Peace and International Security for our Countries, and the World.

“President Stubb told me, in the most powerful of words, that the United States is STRONG, and BACK, AGAIN. I AGREE!” Trump wrote.

He won that tournament in the same way his puppeteer Putin “wins” an election.

Wtf Finland, how dare you make rational political decisions?

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Befriending a dictator, sucking his tiny dick, that never ended badly for anyone, ever. Such a rational decision.

lol

If you watch any interviews with Stubb, where he is asked about Trump, he gives answers that would please Trump.

But if you watch him talk about anything else, you can tell Stubb is way too smart to consider Trump anything other than a bumbling fool. It's incredible that he's able to clue people in, while even in person the idiot himself doesn't realize.

He's trying to walk the line of pleasing Trumps ego, while getting real work done.

He's literally just been saying stuff along the line "here's what president Trump needs to do (insert sane policy), but he's so smart he doesn't need me telling him that".

And apparently it works.

Maybe he has experience dealing with narcissists.

[-] gurnu@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago

Definitely, Stubb being a narcissist himself. And a known liar. And a confessed school bully.

But that's no surprise, his political party openly works with Finnish far-right populists.

Ah, that explains a lot.

Dear Leader wins glorious tournament again.

”Back again” Yeah right. Trump also forgot to mention that he asked Stubb that can Putin be trusted and Stubb replied ”No!”

I hate the fact that you have butter yourself all up and rub yourself against Trump and proclaim that he is the greatest thing that ever happened to you in order to get him to not destroy everything for himself and others.

I love the fact that there are other people out there who are capable of doing that and don't feel shame or discomfort while doing it. People like president Stubb, Nato secretary Rutte and others might just keep things from really turning bad. They are really good at pandering to Trump's ego. I just hope they don't end up completely selling themselves out, but I have confidence in that they know the limit.

I'm not a fan of Stubb, but so far he seems to be navigating the ROUGH political waters well enough. While I did not vote for him, I'm mostly pleasantly surprised by how he's doing as a president and I trust he knows what he's doing. I just hope I don't have to be unpleasantly surprised later.

Also, he looks like a lizard.

[-] Denixen@feddit.nu 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The way I think about is that people like Stubb are OUR assholes and they are useful to keep other's assholes from hurting us.

We just have keep him and his likes faced outwards, not inwards 😅

Also, I think all politicians disappoint sooner or later, let's just hope they do netto more good in the end :/

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

Oh...oh god he's touching him. That is SO gross.

[-] gurnu@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago

I barf every time I see that lying slimy scumbag's smile. And I'm not talking about Trump, though that fits him too.

[-] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

It's not even a smile, I don't think he can genuinely smile. It's a rictus grin devoid of real joy.

I’m ok if this is the only type of news we get from this administration from here on out. Let my taxes pay for golf so long as these people are not doing anything else.

[-] bazus1@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

[-] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

I don’t know anything about the tournament but I saw a photo of all 4 people in his group holding the same sized trophy and at least one was a former PGA player. I would bet they played best ball and just took the pro’s shot every time. Maybe one of the other three got lucky and hit a putt or a par 3 green or something while every other “best ball” was the professional golfer’s shot.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

It’s like playing with a child. They always "win."

[-] riodoro1@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Finland on the wrong side of history again?

[-] bigboismith@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

He's the first European to convince Trump that Putin is unreliable and untrustworthy. Having to golf with the devil is sadly a part of realpolitik

[-] riodoro1@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Oh sure, Trump will totally turn his back on russia now that Finland opened his eyes.

Finland participated in the Second World Warinitially in a defensive war against the Soviet Union, followed by another, this time offensive, war against the Soviet Union acting in concert with Nazi Germany and then finally fighting alongside the Allies against Germany.

[-] prole 7 points 1 day ago

So out of those three things, only one I would consider "the wrong side of history," and it only really seems like that if you completely eliminate all context.

Are you really giving Finland shit for (rather successfully) defending their country against Soviet invasion?

[-] boredtortoise@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago

That was disgraceful but tbh it seems that there were no better options

[-] Lootboblin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Especially when the rest of the world didn’t help. Sweden sent some volunteer soldiers but that was basically it.

[-] gurnu@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

This time we're in NATO, though. We should be able to loudly and proudly say NO to someone who threatens our allies, instead of sniveling and cowering in front of them like Stubb does.

This guy knows how the game is played

[-] gurnu@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

More like knows how to protect his own investments at the cost of the nation he supposedly leads. His party works with the Finnish far-right, it's no surprise he'd go across the ocean to suck one more fascist dick
