Please europe, I beg you. 100% tariff on those fucking emotional support trucks.

Im going to start blowing them up soon otherwise.

[-] 9point6@lemmy.world 29 points 3 weeks ago

Do we actually have clowns buying them over here? I didn't even think they were road legal anywhere

[-] riodoro1@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

In poland theres more of them each month. I fucking hate it so much.

Assholes in „rural” areas (10mins to city center) buy them and then parade in their fucking tanks. They are always the most polished and detailed cars on the intersection. I drive a larger car myself (not a suv, a big coupe) but it looks like a toy compared to a dodge ram. Those fuckers wouldn’t even be able to see a matiz in front of them.

[-] Keener@lemm.ee 19 points 3 weeks ago

I live in a small rural town in Ireland. I'm seeing more and more ridiculously huge pickups that are simply too big for the parking spots. They're fucking awful

[-] LwL@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

There's one in the garage of my apartment building. All i can think about when I see it is what a giant douche bag you have to be to buy something like that while living in a big city.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 weeks ago

I think you think this thread is talking about the cybertruck but they're just talking about regular pick up trucks.

[-] kuerbiskernoel@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

You barely see any pick up trucks in Europe (or at least in Austria). I know like one or two farmers who have one and that's it.

People who like big cars buy SUVs here.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

Unfortunately I do see them (a bit) in the Netherlands... Something them being a tax loophole for entrepreneurs (but they're supposedly closing it). Definitely niche though, indeed the emotional support vehicles are the big German SUVs...

[-] banghida@lemm.ee 6 points 3 weeks ago

I saw a bunch in the Netherlands (in smaller towns and villages) and a few in Czechia.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

NL has supposedly cracked down on the tax loophole which made these attractive to b entrepreneurs (something about imported vehicles), so hopefully we start seeing less of them over time.

[-] BroChiMinh@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah. An ex coworker of mine deemed it necessary to drive such a wankpanzer in our medium-sized german city over the astonishing distance of 5 kilometres to/from work.

They are already tariffed af. Due to emissions.

[-] Melchior@feddit.org 8 points 3 weeks ago

The F-150 is imported into Europe, but you can not buy them at normal Ford dealerships, because they are so unpopular. Indeed most Fords sold in Europe are actually designed in Germany....

[-] truthfultemporarily@feddit.org 67 points 3 weeks ago

Is he really doing that stupid fist all the time?

[-] Arbiter@lemmy.world 61 points 3 weeks ago

He doesn’t have the upper body strength for a full heil.

[-] NewDay@feddit.org 46 points 3 weeks ago

He has to hide the back of his hand, because the super healthy old man is not so healthy.

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 17 points 3 weeks ago

`hes bruising like Mitch mcconnel, except lichs hand is already deadm

[-] RogueBanana@lemmy.zip 13 points 3 weeks ago

How does a human skin turn green? Is he so old and expired that fungus is forming under that?

[-] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

I think IV catheters can cause skin discoloration, and the hand is a common place to put catheters. And he's an old bag of shit, he's probably in and out of hospitals as often as golf courses.

So what defines a “foreign” car? BMW builds the X3 in South Carolina and VW builds their SUVs in Tennessee. However Ford builds the Bronco in Mexico. So which one will be tariffed?

[-] EvilCartyen@feddit.dk 23 points 3 weeks ago

Under normal circumstances the car which crosses a border.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago

So Ford gets taxed while the “import” brand doesn’t. Another well thought out policy by this administration. My “foreign” car was built in Alabama.

[-] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

They just need a metric to wave in the face of their very stupid voter base. If they don’t get any, they’ll make some up. They absolutely do not care if this policy successfully results in the stated intended effect.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@midwest.social 46 points 3 weeks ago

Still not buying American trash cars. Of all the vehicles I've ever owned, American cars were by far the worst. I'll stick to my Japanese autos thank you very much. They know how to make a reliable car that punches above its class. I don't give two shits if I have to pay a tariff.

[-] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 25 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

A lot of Japanese cars are made in the US. Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Subaru, Mazda, Hyundai and Kia all have manufacturing facilities in the US.

[-] evidences@lemmy.world 30 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

You know what cars aren't manufactured in the USA? American cars. I drive a fusion and the only part I could find that wasn't made in Mexico was the radio.

[-] PineRune@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago

Anyone that has worked in automotive manufacturing can confirm. Most of the material comes packaged in boxes "shipped from" Mexico or China. It's assembled in the US and so they say "Made in the U.S.A."

[-] takeda@lemm.ee 15 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, and because of NAFTA to build a car, parts were going across the border multiple times back and forth. So with tariffs that can increase the price much more.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

Is the tariff on cars, or parts? Or have they not figured that part out yet?

[-] takeda@lemm.ee 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It's on both, but just learned that apparently it won't impact the parts that going back and forth across the border. It looks like those additional tariffs which will affect it are still planned on April 2nd.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Hyundai and Kia are Korean

[-] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yeah, you're correct. That's actually my point.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kia_design_and_manufacturing_facilities#Georgia_Plant_(KMMG)

Edit: oh, I see, you’re correcting that Hyundai/Kia is not Japanese. Ok. Sorry, I was listing a bunch of Japanese companies and slipped on that.

[-] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

So do several German manufacturers. Most of the BMW X cars are assembled in America.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@midwest.social 5 points 3 weeks ago

Yup, that's why I avoid them too. My current car was made with quality and care in Japan, as will my next car.

Mhm pay 25% more for a good car or buy a swasticar...

[-] Geodad@lemm.ee 17 points 3 weeks ago

Toyota builds Camry, Avalon, RAV4, and Lexus in Georgetown, KY.

If it means foreign brands, that will fuck over a lot of red state workers, if he means foreign built, maybe not.

[-] unfnknblvbl@beehaw.org 11 points 3 weeks ago

Reciprocal tariffs on American cars honestly sounds like a pretty good idea now...

[-] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 28 points 3 weeks ago

American cars are already near impossible to sell in Europe. Terrible fuel economy, to large and bad turning radius for European cities with small roads, things like cyber trucks and other oversized pickups are probably not road legal because of pedestrian crash safety regulations.

[-] SchwertImStein@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 3 weeks ago

don't forget shit quality

[-] jonne@infosec.pub 13 points 3 weeks ago

Nobody wants American cars. I guess up until recently Tesla was the exception, but that was already changing before Musk decided to go full mask off.

[-] orcrist@lemm.ee 11 points 3 weeks ago

Oh Donald, nothing is permanent.
